18. Go home to the homeland

AUSTRALIA, 2022

Actually Raya and Nev are very surprised to hear the news of the sudden return of his daughter-Abrine. Moreover, this time not just going home, Abrine said he would introduce a man to his extended family. Nev and the others guessed that the man was Raymond, considering Abrine had only been close to the man all along.

Raya also believes that Abrine has more feelings than just a friend to the young man.

Nev, Raya, Aarav and his wife-Rahelsa, went to pick Abrine up at the arrival gate at the airport.

From afar, they could already see a familiar figure that they could recognize well. There, Abrine sauntered slowly with a suitcase big enough to pull on his side. They all thought it was Raymond, but the closer Abrine and the man were to them, the clearer it became that the man was not the figure they were expecting.

Nev cringed, as did the others. It's just, they all don't want to directly flocked Abrine with a myriad of questions about this man. Later, there was a time when they could ask Abrine what they wanted to know.

"Where's Gala?" That was the first question Abrine asked in front of Aarav-sang's sister. He asked his niece - the 6-month-old son of Aarav and Rahelsa.

Abrine nodded at the brother's speech. Then she knew that they were all staring curiously at the man she had brought home today.

Elrich smiled a friendly smile, reached out to Nev and greeted him with reverence, continued to do the same to Raya, then shook Aarav's hand for a moment. Elrich looked at Rahelsa whom he believed to be Aarav's wife, nodding kindly at the woman.

"I'm Elrich, sir," he told Nev first.

"I'm Nevan, Abrine's father" Nev said in astonishment, as the man with the princess greeted him in fluent Indonesian.

Nev and Raya want to ask more about El, but they paused because they thought talking at home would be better than their current position in the airport area.

"Come, we'll go home."

Arriving home, Elrich and Abrine were immediately welcome to eat because time did show the time for lunch to arrive.

The extended family became acquainted with Elrich, and the man spoke of his work in Germany.

"So you're a surgeon?" ask the El.

"Yes, Mom." Elrich was polite.

"Don't call Mom or Dad to us. If you can call Om and Aunt here, doesn't that sound more familiar?" Raya made a suggestion and El smiled faintly while nodding.

"You're a German citizen?" chirps Nev who also wants to know about this guy.

"Yes, Om." Elrich had been wawanti Abrine about this, he was sure if he would get a lot of questions from the Abrine family, let alone they did not know too far from each other.

"Why do you speak Indonesian, El? The courses? Or have you ever lived in Indonesia?"

Elrich smiled faintly. "No, Om. It just so happened that my mother was Indonesian."

Elrich's answer made Abrine quite surprised, because this is also only known to him. All this time, El was always closed about his mother and Abrine wouldn't force him to talk. In front of Nev, Elrich tries to open up because his background might be considered by Abrine's biological father.

Nev and Raya looked at each other at Elrich's words. There were separate considerations for the two of them regarding the life of the Elrich family.

"But, Om and Aunt don't have to worry. From the separation of my parents, I learned many things, including not wanting to be like them."

After lunch, Nev wants to get to know El more. He took the man to his study. Without being explained by Abrine, he had understood the purpose of El's arrival to Indonesia to want to get to know his extended family. He knew that this young man wanted to have a serious relationship with his daughter.

"So, how far is your relationship?" Nev spoke to Elrich. Casual talk between two grown men without involving Abrine, he wanted to assess the personality of this man.

"To be honest me and Abrine just got to know, Om."

Nev nodded, he could guess this.

"Where do you know?"

"In the Hospital."

"When Abrine makes trouble?" guess Nev.

Elrich just smiled faintly in response.

"So you're serious about him?"

"Yes, I'd like to marry her if Om approves." El answered steadily without hesitation and it provoked Nev to pull the corner of his lips for judging El's bold demeanor.

"You know, my daughter Abrine is a little different. She is an unusual girl. He's tough and hard to beat. To be honest, as his father, I doubt he could agree to you marrying him for granted, if you're new to him." Nev certainly knew the personality of each of his children - including Abrine, which is why he was astonished by Elrich's sudden arrival.

Elrich quietly did not say, clearly Abrine accepted it easily, because the girl just wanted to make it an outlet of pain and use it as she also used Abrine with their status later. The status that Edgar, his father, wanted.

"really?" El didn't expect him to get Abrine's parents' blessing so easily.

"Yes, but keep the trust of your parents. After marriage, Abrine will be your responsibility as her husband." Nev patted El's shoulder familiarly. He blesses El because he can judge if Elrich is a grown man to address Abrine's often annoying behavior.

"Om hoping you can be patient with Abrine. Give him sincerity and he'll soften on you." Nev looked at Elrich with a serious look, as if he was giving the man an important tip.
