Sense of Sense
Lifetime Task

Ashqar drove his car quietly, driving down the main road at a speed of forty to sixty kilometers per hour. Beside him, Alvin sat quietly staring at the traffic crowd in front. Ashqar was so calm that he felt he was driving alone.

Ashqar glanced at Alvin just to confirm what his eldest son was doing, but. Alvin was just sitting around like when the kid just got in the car. Unfortunately, Ashqar has no topic of conversation. More precisely, he could not think clearly to start small talk as usual. And all because of last night.

“Mas Alvin,” call Ashqar at the end, along with the car that turns towards the south. He didn't want Alvin's morning to start with something he wasn't wearing. “Back later papah pick up.”

Alvin. “Iya, pah.”

Ashqar silently grimaced silently hearing his son's short answer.

“Fuck why?” alvin asked, noticing Ashqar's unusual expression.

“Nothing. By the way, Mas Alvin scores daily math exams that last week already out?”

“Udah yesterday, pah.”

“Kok, papah not told?”

“Lupa.”

“Set the result how?”

Alvin buzzed and glanced in the other direction as Ashqar directed a gaze at him. “Sixty, pah,” whispered.

“Why be afraid?” Ashqar let out a subtle laugh while shuffling Alvin's mane, making the boy slightly jolted. “Neither your value is small, origin ..it's the result of your own efforts. Not a cheating result from someone else.”

Alvin's fixing his hairdo. “Alvin not cheating, pah.”

“Good! That's papah's son. But the next test is to get better grades,” said Ashqar. His hand stretched out to ruffle Alvin's hair once more.

Ashqar's indignation drew a strong complaint from Alvin. The child most dislikes being touched, let alone being damaged by her hairdo. According to Alvin, it was very disturbing and upset him. Of course, unlike Ashqar or even Rafa, the two adult men really like to randomize Alvin's mane to make the child emit an addictive expression of annoyance.

Then the conversation between the father and son was finally filled with small quarrels until finally the car that Ashqar drove to the front gate of Alvin school.

“Alvin school first, pah.” Alvin extended a hand. As soon as Ashqar received a helping hand, he kissed the back of Ashqar's hand. “Assalamu’alikum.”

Alvin had just turned around and opened the car door as Ashqar called out to him in a hurried voice.

Alvin looked at him unsure. The boy stared at the school gate and Ashqar's face alternated and pensively paused until he finally nodded his head. “But just a minute, pah? Later if later the gate is closed Mr. Bon.”

“Iya,” replied Ashqar steady. He waited for Alvin to sit comfortably then said, “Papah would like to talk to Mas Alvin.”

“Iya, pah. This Alvin dangerin.”

“Mas Alvin will be better with Aldi, yes?” ashqar. Alvin looked at him with an unusual gaze, suspecting that his son did not like the idea. “Why, mas? Mas Alvin does not want to be better with Aldi?”

Alvin bubbled, but quickly nodded. “Alvin wants to be better with Aldi, but Alvin does not want to apologize first.”

Ashqar put his palm over Alvin's head to make the boy turn his head. “Do not do so, mas. It is not good to keep a grudge,” said Ashqar, smiling understandingly. “Papah want Mas Alvin can forgive the mistakes of others, apologize first also does not mean we lose or weak.”

“The wrong one is not Alvin. Why would Alvin apologize first?”

“Emang Mas Alvin not wrong?” asked Ashqar, who answered with a firm head. “Yesterday Mas Alvin said that push Aldi, ‘kan?”

“Iya, but that's because Aldi mocked Zain. Alvin ‘kan, self-defense only.”

Ashqar breathed deeply. It's not easy to explain things like forgiving and apologizing. Things are often considered trivial, but can be so fatal for the future of a child in the formation of his character. And Ashqar does not want his children to be a damper child so that it can be bad in the future.

Many cases where teenagers, even some cases involve adults, who ultimately have to be entangled with the law only because of heartache and revenge that lead to criminal acts. It is very scary for Ashqar to imagine his children will become people who are hated by society.

So it is his responsibility as a parent to form a character and guide Alvin to be a child with good character and ethics. Although it must be admitted if being a parent is the toughest task in his life. But of course it's not impossible.
