After delivering Alvin to school, Ashqar and Safira drop off Zain. The noise of the children, the creaking of the swings with rusty hinges, as well as the sound of some mothers reprimanding their children welcomed Safira as she got out of the car.
Safira glanced at Zain who had gone down first and approached him. “Mas Zain why? Mamah pay attention from earlier diem aja.”
Zain raised his gaze and looked at Safira's face for quite a while, then shook his head. “Nothing, Mah.”
“Bener?”
Zain nodded in response. Seeing that, Safira became worried. He crouched down in front of Zain and held both of his son's shoulders.
“Zain angry yes, same mom?” ask Safira in the softest tone possible. However, instead of answering, Zain looked away.
Sapphira exhaled a subtle breath and twisted her brain to guess what might have been the reason for Zain's silence. As he recalled, Zain was still active and chatty at breakfast. The boy even had time to play chases with Raka to get a reprimand from Edi. So what makes his son suddenly so quiet?
“What's my pregnancy news?” inner Sapphira. Unfortunately, he had not been able to ask, Zain had already passed.
The boy walked towards Ashqar, smashing himself into the leg of his papa. While Ashqar who actually saw Safira and Zain from the car chose not to ask and return Zain's embrace.
“Come, go to school.” Ashqar stroked the top of Zain's head gently, and the response he got was just a head bob. “Mas Zain won't come in? ‘Kan, we've arrived here.”
“Later Papah same Mamah pick up, ‘kan?” great-grandson Zain.
Ashqar glanced at Safira, asking for an opinion through the gesture. Luckily Sapphira soon realized that and immediately approached the two.
“Iya, later same papah pick up Mas Zain the same Mas Alvin.”
Zain extended his little finger at Sapphira without looking at her mother. “Appointment?”
“Appointments, Dear.” Sapphira links her pinky with Zain's pinky.
After which Zain released their link and glanced at Safira at a glance. “If Mamah lies, Zain does not want to bolo with Mamah,” he said, while running into the school.
Seeing that, Sapphira became confused. Even until he left Zain's school the feeling didn't go out of his mind. As they were on their way to school Zain was more silent and shied away from his gaze, as he asked Zain only replied with one or two words. Such characteristics are a sign that Zain is angry or sulking with his mother. However, Zain's behavior shortly before running into the school clearly shows the opposite.
Sapphira was so late in her daydream that when she raised her face, watching the streets, she realized that the car was not driving towards their house.
“Where do we stop by, Mas?” he looked at Ashqar.
“Bome, Dear.”
Safira looked at Ashqar confused. “But this is not the way to home.”
Ashqar was secretly trying to keep his facial expression. Before leaving, they plan to stop by the house, check things out and pick up some things after they finish taking Alvin and Zain to school. They also planned to meet Mbak Jum, but Ashqar unilaterally changed the plan.
Ashqar had trouble continuing his words. Then he quickly changed the car lane from right to left when the road situation was quite quiet, and stopped in front of the minimarket.
“Rafa asks me to come home soon,” said Ashqar, just as Safira opened her mouth.
Safira flashes. The words he wanted to say were swallowed back, then he remembered that Ashqar had received a phone call from Rafa in the middle of the trip. Honestly, he was suspicious. However, Sapphira does not want to overload herself with negative thoughts or she will completely explode due to overcapacity.
“Ya, already. Then let's go home, Mas.”
Ashqar's gaze softened. He probed through his wife's unusual expression. Sapphira looked different, suspicious, frightened, as if disappearing. Although Ashqar can actually see if his wife is trying for it.
“I will continue to feel guilty if I do not speak honestly with you. Moreover, you have tried like this,” he said, stroking the side of Safira's face.
Sapphira closed her eyes, quite unprepared with Ashqar's sudden movements. “What's the matter, Mas?” safira asked as Ashqar's hand moved to hold his hand. “I know Kak Rafa telfon did not ask Mas to go home because he wanted to discuss business affairs, but make a discussion of the problem ..”
“Iya,” replied Ashqar rau. “But there are things you should also know, Fi.”
“What?”
Ashqar squeezed Safira's hands harder. “This morning there is a gossip news that contains the name and face of Zain.”
