After Sapphira's confession of her childhood memories, neither Edi, Rafa nor Ashqar brought it up. They agreed not to ask Safira that question or provoke a chat at him. Until one afternoon accidentally Ashqar listened to the conversation of Edi and Rafa on the back porch.
Actually Ashqar did not intend to eavesdrop on the conversation, but when the name Safira was mentioned in their chat, Ashqar changed his mind. Ashqar quickly hid behind the wall, put ears and keep an eye on the situation if anyone comes.
“Safira deserves to know who Hendra really is. We can't hide this forever, sir.”
Ashqar's heart is like falling to the bottom of the stomach hearing Rafa's words. He did not understand on what basis his wife's older brother was until he thought so. Ashqar disagrees.
“You are crazy?” wrath Edi. “Father can still tolerate your previous actions while bringing Teguh from the father's place without permission.”
“Father knows the reason,” sergeant Rafa. “I do not want to until the father who instead languished in prison for violence.”
Ashqar could hear Edi screeching loudly and cursing Rafa in Javanese, and for him this was the first time. Ashqar knows how unhappy Edi is when Rafa tells him he has brought Teguh to safety. At that time he did not ask much and did not want to bother because his attention was only on Safira.
“If until it happens how do we explain to Safira?” continued Rafa. “But this time is different. Safira herself who told us about the incident so it's better we tell the truth than she knows herself and ..”
“No! Don't try, Rafa. If you say everything is the same Safira, he'll go crazy. Would you like to see your sister go to a mental institution once again?”
Like being struck by lightning in broad daylight, Ashqar could not believe what he had just heard. He carefully peeked and subconsciously held his breath. From his place, Ashqar could see how his father-in-law's face was red with anger. Edi even grabbed the collar of Rafa's shirt.
“Can't answer ‘kan you?” Edi pushed Rafa and sat down on the rattan chair. “Don't forget, Rafa. It's the one who killed your mother, put your sister in a deep depression and set our family apart. He is the only person who should not be in our lives, let alone Safira.”
“How about Eyang Prapti?” ask Rafa coldly. “Do you think Pakde Teguh is the only person at fault?”
“If it wasn't Pakde Teguh who did it, it was definitely Eyang Prapti who would eliminate mother.”
“Rafa!”
Ashqar is scowled and reflexively hides back behind a wall. For some reason suddenly the air temperature increased, the temple was flooded with sweat that fell to the neck. However, he could feel his palms as cold as holding an ice bag.
Then it was not long before Ashqar heard the sound of laughter. It belongs to Rafa and sounds shitty. So driven by curiosity, Ashqar peeked back after confirming the situation. He could see how Rafa's facial expression was so sinister, it was hard to guess even though he was laughing. But it is definitely not happiness.
“Mr don't forget what you did to Safira behind us. He may have had a bad past because he chose a poor man who was irresponsible. He may feel devastated because Om Eko takes the road like he chose ordinary women. About Eko?” Rafa snorted, pulling one end of his lips. “He is also guilty. He was the one who made my mother die. Because of the selfishness of the man who wants to save his wife by saying that he loves his mother and wants to marry her in exchange for wanting to return home. He is the source of all the misfortune that befalls us.”
Justjust wonderful. Incredibly scary. Ashqar could feel the fine hairs around his nape standing up hearing how Rafa spoke in a very cold voice. Even so, he could also feel a huge anger from every sentence Rafa spoke.
Ashqar pensively ignored the father and son couples who were still arguing there. Deep in his heart, from the first time he knew the truth about Teguh or Hendra, Ashqar also felt that in this matter he was guilty of not just one person and he was sure that Edi was actually aware of it. Even so, his father-in-law remained by Prapti's side for reasons Ashqar believed were for Edi, Eyang Prapti was his parents. Her in-laws have a child's affection and debt to Prapti who has raised and educated her.
