Friday afternoon at the feed store.
Gaby exhaled, staring at the pile of sacks filled with animal feed that were in the shop courtyard. He chose to rest for a while, sitting on the edge of a nail rack made of wood. He had partially lifted the sacks, and he needed to breathe well even for a moment.
When he arrived this morning, Gaby immediately conveyed his resignation to Parker. Because he promised Madame Maggie he'd come by Saturday to get back to work. But the man immediately shouted furiously, and instead told Gaby to immediately finish her work.
“Didn't you see a lot of stuff coming, and no one has cleaned it up yet. Then all of a sudden you want to just stop. No, I won't let you leave this place!” hardik Parker while pointing his index finger outwards.
Gaby jerks. His face was red, looking frightened. The courage he had designed since last night suddenly evaporated out of nowhere.
The fat man with his half-bald head turned his back and kept cursing as he walked back behind his desk. “Do not laze, bring in immediately sacks of animal feed before it rains and damage it. If that happens, I'll make sure you compensate for all the losses I've suffered!”
Gaby is doomed to her weakness, not having enough courage to stand up to her superiors. He went and did what Parker told him. "All right, sir."
The animal feed sack weighed twenty-five kilos, half as much as its body weight. Gaby had to lift him into the warehouse at the back of the store, and some of it was stacked on the floor inside the store.
Once Gaby tried to drag him, but Parker immediately yelled at him and said he would cut his salary immediately if the sack he dragged was damaged. Finally Gaby lifted him by hugging the sack from the front. And miraculously, he managed to complete his task well.
Regret always comes too late, Gaby rubbed the dripping sweat on her forehead with the tip of her shirt sleeve. At first everything was fine on the first day he worked there, there were two employees besides him. One young man dropped out of school, and one woman Gaby's age.
But not until a week they were together, the two men were not seen appearing there again. And it looks like Parker doesn't care, so be all the work at Gaby's shop doing.
“What are you doing?” parker's voice was heard behind him. The man was suddenly standing near Gaby with a waistline. “I told you to put those sacks into the warehouse, instead of sitting casually while daydreaming here.”
Gaby shuddered, instantly jumping and moving away. He didn't like the guy being close to him. The look in his eyes looked insolent, as if he wanted to devour his body. Recalling how Parker abused her, Gaby did not want it to happen again. He also quickly did his job.
“Mr Parker, do you need additional manpower?” the sound of someone entering Gaby's eardrum as she was exerting energy, lifting a sack in her arms. Then shortly a strong sound of footsteps entered the store.
“I already have that woman!” point Parker at Gaby walking in.
“You are sure he is able to complete all this work, it seems that the woman has trouble lifting these things.” Hary shook his head in disbelief, Parker telling Gaby to do a hard job she shouldn't have done.
“It was part of his job,” snorted Parker unconcerned. “Again he himself has promised to finish his work. I also paid him a pretty big wage.”
“What does that mean you're not willing to accept me working here?” the young man knew, Parker was just trying to defend himself. If the man knew who he really was, he would not talk to him that soon.
“You can come back another time, after I finish my business with that woman.” Parker said with a sly grin on his face.
“And I wish you would accept me to work here. Mr. Ed said, You need extra power after two of your employees quit work.”
“Do you talk to Mr Ed, what has he told you?” parker's tone of voice changed, the young man in front of him seemed to be familiar with the owner of the shop.
Parker harrumphed, got up and walked out from behind his desk to approach the young man. He had lost his job before, this time it would never happen to him again. He will continue to maintain his position.
“What's your name?”
“Hary Donovan.”
“Donovan? What is your relationship with Ed Donovan?”
Braak!
The sound of a heavy object falling down, the two men turned their heads together. Day clenched his hands on both sides of his body, he could not bear to see Gaby grimacing in pain the fall of the sack of animal feed he lifted.
“Halo, Gaby.” Sapa Hary, smiling, pretended to be unaware of the surprised light that came from Gaby's eyes on her. His gaze now swept across the entire thin body of the woman in front of him.
The sack in Gaby's arms came loose and fell right under her feet. The shock of seeing Hary's appearance in that place overcame the pain in her leg. Her lips twitched as she called out Hary's name.
“Do you know each other?” parker asked, his eyes looking at Gaby and Hary alternately.
Hary nodded, but Gaby shook her head strongly. He lifted the sack under his feet. But before he did, Hary had already pulled his arm. “Gaby wait!”
“What are you doing in this place?” ask Gaby. The events of some time ago were still imprinted in his memory. He should stay away from the man and keep a safe distance from him.
Hary puts her shoulder to shoulder, “I think you've heard the conversation between myself and Mr. Parker. You know for yourself, not long ago I've lost my job.”
“Do not try to bother me again!” sahut Gaby with a hoarse voice. He felt trapped between two men who both treated him badly.
“Who intends to disturb you, I came here instead intend to help you,” Hary replied.
Parker is inflamed, he dislikes other men trying to get close to Gaby right in front of his eyes. He didn't want that to happen, he already had other plans for the woman. “If you come with the intention of interrupting the working time of my employees, it is better now that you leave this place.”
“I don't care even if you have a relationship with the owner of this store. Now, you better get out of this place soon.” Imbuh Parker, repeat the order again to Hary.
“Alright, I'll go. But I assure you, I will come again tomorrow.” Hary said as she pointed at Parker's face.
“Esok morning I'm no longer in this store anymore,” Gaby whispered inwardly.
Parker cheered inwardly, the troublemaking man was gone. Her eyes wildly followed Gaby's step back lifting the sack of feed into the shed.
