Chapter 96: The Harsh Decision
Sulis pondered everything that happened in his life. He has to make tough decisions, which will affect his life as well as his loved ones.
Ahmad came to Sulis with a glass of warm tea for Sulis.
Sulis: Thank you, Ahmad.
Ahmad: What happened, Sulis? You look lost.
Sulis: I have to make a very difficult decision, Ahmad.
Ahmad: What about, Sulis?
Sulis: About my work. I had to decide whether I would accept the job offer from the big company or keep working at this small company that had been built for the past few years.
Ahmad: It was a difficult decision, Sulis. What if you talk to your family or friends to get their advice?
Sulis: That's a good idea, Ahmad. But I still had my doubts when I had to make this decision.
Ahmad: Keep in mind, Sulis, that every decision we make has consequences. But what matters is that we make the best decisions in line with our values and principles.
Sulis: Yes, you are right, Ahmad. I'll consider your advice and talk to my family and friends. Thank you for listening to me.
Ahmad: No need to think about it, Sulis. I am ready to support you in whatever decision you make.
Sulis smiled and thanked Ahmad. Although the decision still felt difficult, he felt even more relieved after getting the support of someone he trusted.
Sulis then made up his mind after talking to his family and friends. He decided to keep working at his small company and continue building it.
Sulis: Thank you for supporting me, Ahmad. I've decided not to accept a job offer from that big company.
Ahmad: I'm glad you found the right decision for you, Sulis. Are you feeling relieved now?
Sulis: Yes, I feel relieved now. I am convinced that this decision is in line with my values and principles.
Ahmad: That's what matters, Sulis. When we make decisions that are in line with our values and principles, we will not regret them.
Sulis: You are absolutely right, Ahmad. Thank you for your support.
Ahmad: No need to think about it, Sulis. I am always ready to support you.
Sulis was happy to have found the right decision. He felt helped by the presence of Ahmad who always supported him. Although the decision was heavy, Sulis was convinced that he had made the best decision for himself and his loved ones.
Sulis: Ahmad, have you ever felt any confusion in making similar decisions?
Ahmad: Of course, Sulis. Everyone must have felt confused in making difficult decisions. Therefore, it is important for us to consider the values and principles that we have.
Sulis: But sometimes, I find it difficult to decide between a good idea or job offer and the values I hold.
Ahmad: It's hard, Sulis. However, if we consider those values, then we can limit the options available and focus on the ones that really matter to us.
Sally: Yes, that's true. I am still learning to combine principles and reality.
Ahmad: That's natural, Sulis. This learning process is not instant, but slowly, we will find a way to combine our principles with the circumstances at hand.
Sulis: Thank you, Ahmad. You always give me good thoughts and help me understand myself.
Ahmad: No need to thank you, Sulis. That's my job as your best friend.
Sulis was pleased to be able to discuss and share his thoughts with Ahmad. He felt enlightened about how to strengthen the value he had in making the right decision.
A few days later, Sulis got a very promising job offer from a big company in the city. The salary offered was very high and Sulis knew that the job would give him a lot of experience and opportunities to develop.
However, Sulis also knew that the company was not paying attention to the sustainability principles he had and would probably violate ethics in business. Sulis considered this and conducted a further review of the company.
After considering all things, Sulis decided to reject the job offer because it was not in accordance with its values and principles. Although difficult, Sulis was relieved by the decisions taken and knew that his future would be built on principles consistent with his values.
Ahmad who heard Sulis' decision felt proud and delivered words of praise for Sulis. Sulis feels grateful for having friends who always support and give it a broad view so that it can strengthen itself in a value.
Ahmad said, "Sulis, I am very impressed by your courage to refuse the offer of such a lucrative job. I know it's not an easy decision to make."
Sulis replied, "Thank you, Ahmad. I am relieved by the decision I made. I know that sustainability values and business ethics are very important to me. Even though the job offer was very promising, I didn't want to sacrifice the principles I believed in just for the sake of money."
Ahmad smiled happily at Sulis' reply. "I totally agree with you, Sulis. Because every experience in our lives certainly provides a lesson to improve ourselves. Sometimes, we have to make difficult decisions to defend the values and principles we hold."
Sulis nodded in agreement. "Yes, Ahmad. I learned that when we choose to maintain the values and principles we believe in, we will gain more happiness in life. Whatever decisions we make, we must make sure that we feel good about ourselves and do not violate the principles that we follow."
Ahmad said, "That's right, Sulis. I'm so happy to see you grow up to be a more mature person and make good decisions for your future."
Sulis smiled happily at Ahmad's words. He realized that the decision he made was indeed difficult, but it ended up bringing him happiness and satisfaction.
"Please, Ahmad. I thank you too, for helping me consider various factors before deciding on the job offer."
Ahmad nodded, "It's okay. I was frankly very worried about you the first time you accepted the offer. But as soon as you explain your reason, I feel immense pride and respect for you."
Sulis smiled, "Thank you. I have to be honest, it's very difficult to turn down such a tempting offer. But, when I thought about it more deeply, I understood that money is not all."
Ahmad, "Yes, as the saying goes 'money cannot buy happiness.' Something that's hard to get makes us appreciate it even more."
Sulis smiled, "Yes, I feel stronger after making this decision. Have you made a difficult decision last time, Ahmad?"
Ahmad smiled, "Yes, a few months ago I had to decide whether to marry my boyfriend at that time. It's a very difficult decision because it's related to long-term and future commitments."
Sulis smiled curiously, "So, what did you decide?"
Ahmad smiled happily, "I decided to marry my girlfriend because I felt she was the right person for me. And after marriage, I felt constantly grateful for that decision."
Sulis smiled understandingly, "Yes, I understand. Tough decisions can lead us to a better place if taken wisely and according to our principles."
Ahmad agreed, "It's fine, Sulis. Don't forget our values and principles when it comes to making tough decisions. We want to be honest and ethical, even in difficult situations."
Sulis smiled in agreement, "Yes. Now, I feel more confident about the decision I made. I am convinced that my values and principles will never change."
Ahmad smiled, "That's it, Sulis. That's a good way to move forward in life."
Sulis smiled, "Thank you very much, Ahmad. You always give me a wise view and help me consider things that were unthinkable before."
Ahmad nodded, "Sama-sama, Sulis. We help each other and support each other in making tough decisions."
Sulis realized how lucky he was to have a friend like Ahmad, "I really feel lucky to have a friend like you, Ahmad. You're always there when I need help and support."
Ahmad smiled, "Sama-sama, Sulis. I feel lucky to have a friend like you. We complement and support each other in life."
Sulis closed his notebook and smiled, "Alright, I have to go home now. Thanks again, Ahmad."
Ahmad got up from the chair, "Sama-sama, Sulis. See you soon."
Sulis walked out of the cafe feeling relieved and convinced that he had made the right decision. He feels valued and trusted as a professional and as an individual who has strong principles of life. He knew that his life would continue to be filled with difficult decisions, but he was ready to face them with more confidence and wisdom.
