Chapter 36: Sulis is looking for something
The next day, Sulis went to his favorite bookstore in the city center. He hopes to find the latest novel he is waiting for. Once inside the bookstore, Sulis went straight to the fiction section and saw newly published bookshelves.
While checking the titles of the book, suddenly Sulis felt someone pat her on the shoulder. He immediately turned around and was surprised to see Ahmad, his old friend from High School.
"Write! How are you?" greet Ahmad with a big smile.
Sulis was delighted to see Ahmad. They have not met since graduating from High School, and Sulis longs for the conversation they had. Sulis flashed a smile back and returned Ahmad's greeting.
"Ahmadh! Long time no see. Good news, how about you?" replied Sulis enthusiastically.
Ahmad nodded and sat down near Sulis. They talked about each other's lives over the years of separation.
"Nearly felt the time pass so quickly, huh? It's been almost ten years since we graduated High School" Sulis said with a nostalgic smile.
Ahmad nodded in agreement. "really so. But, I'm glad to see you again, Sulis. How's your job now? Are you still pursuing your writing hobby?"
Sulis smiled and replied, "Alhamdulillah, I still love to write. In fact, I have published several novels and short stories. Somehow, writing always gives me a sense of peace and joy."
Ahmad seemed excited to hear this good news. "That's great, Sulis! I always knew that you had a great talent for writing. Do you have a new story or plan?"
Sulis laughed a little. "Actually, I'm in the process of writing a new novel called 'Sheets of Hope'. It is a story about the life journey of a woman who faces many challenges and trials. He seeks hope in every situation, and he believes that with determination and conviction, he can achieve his life's dreams."
Ahmad looked interested. "Well, that sounds interesting. Can I read your draft novel? I'd love to help if you need any advice or input."
Sulis felt moved and smiled. "Of course, Ahmad. I'd love it if you'd read it and give me your opinion. We can meet again someday and discuss it further."
Ahmad nodded and gave her phone number. "Alright, keep the spirit of writing, Sulis. I'm sure your novel will be an amazing work."
They talk even longer, recall past memories and share life experiences. Sulis felt lucky to see Ahmad again that day. This unexpected encounter gives her a new spirit to continue her novel and face life's challenges with hope.
Finally, Sulis and Ahmad parted ways by embracing each other. They agreed to meet again in the near future, this time to discuss the novel Sulis is being written. Sulis stepped out of the bookstore with a happy and inspiring heart. His passion for completing the "Sheet of Hope" was getting imprinted in his mind.
Sulis: Ahmad, I still can't understand how we got to this point. We have both been through so much in this life.
Ahmed: Yes, Sulis. Right enough. It is inconceivable how we can survive through all the obstacles that come our way.
Sulis: I still remember the first time we met each other in an orphanage. Both of us have been unfortunate, losing our parents since childhood.
Ahmad: Yes, Sulis. At that time we only had each other. We make friends and struggle together to find hope in a life full of limitations.
Sulis: And who would have thought, we managed to escape a life that felt like an abyss of darkness. We work hard, study with passion, and can finally continue our education to college.
Ahmad: It's all because we support each other and never stop dreaming, Sulis. You always inspire me to move forward.
Sulis: Ah, don't overdo it, Ahmad. We complement each other, you also give me the strength to continue this journey.
Ahmad: But now, Sulis, we have reached a stage where we can give hope to the orphans in the orphanage. We set up foundations and work hard to provide them with education and assistance.
Ahmad: Sulis, did you ever think that our lives would be like this?
Lopez: Honestly, no. We are just trying to live this life well and trying to benefit others. But as it turns out, life gives us more than we imagine.
Ahmad: Yes, Sulis. We never know what will happen in the future. Importantly, we always take lessons from every obstacle we face. We can't give up.
Sulis: And we must also remain grateful for all the graces that the Lord has bestowed upon us. Life is hard, but we can be meaningful by giving hope to others.
Aum: Right, Sulis. Thank you, friend, for everything we've been through together. I am so lucky to have you as a true friend.
Sulis: Same, Ahmad. We will always be an inseparable team, giving hope to the people who need it.
Ahmad: Come on, Sulis, let's go back to the foundation and continue our mission to make them happy. There are many pages of hope that we need to write.
Sulis: Okay, Ahmad. Moving forward, we can change the world with our loyalty and sincerity.
Sulis was silent for a moment when he saw Ahmad sitting alone under a mango tree in the schoolyard. Ahmad looked down, as if something was troubling his mind. Sulis, who was always attentive towards her friend, decided to approach her.
Sulis: (near Ahmad) Hi Ahmad, what are you thinking? You look sad.
Ahmad: (getting and smiling) Ah, O Sulis. It's okay, there are only a few problems that are troubling my mind.
Sulis: (sitting next to Ahmad) Do not pendam himself, Ahmad. We are friends, you can tell me what is going on.
Ahmad: (sighs) Well, maybe I really need to share. You know, my family is facing some pretty serious financial problems. My father lost his job, and my mother had to put up with a side job that wasn't very productive.
Sulis: (watching Ahmad with sympathy) It must have been very difficult for your family, Ahmad. I can imagine how tough the situation you are in.
Ahmad: Yes, it is difficult. I felt so overwhelmed by the hope my family gave me. They hoped that I could continue my education to college, but with this condition, it was impossible.
Sulis: Although the situation is difficult, do not give up, Ahmad. I believe you have tremendous potential, and facing this challenge will make you grow into a stronger person.
Ahmad: Thank you, Sulis. You said it made me feel better. I just don't want to disappoint my family. I want to help them get out of this.
Sulis: There is nothing wrong with dreaming big, Ahmad. It is precisely this time that you face challenges and prove to your family that you can succeed. There are many scholarships and financial aid programs that you can look for, don't be afraid to look for information.
Ahmad: (smiling) Yes, you are right. I have to fight to achieve my goals and help my family. I can't just give up.
Sulis: I know you can do it, Ahmad. So, let's come together to find a solution and support each other on the way to our dreams.
Ahmad: Thank you, Sulis. I'm lucky to have a friend like you.
Sulis: Same, Ahmad. We are an inseparable team. We will overcome this challenge together.
With renewed vigor, Sulis and Ahmad walk out of the schoolyard, ready to face the future with all new hopes and efforts. Both know that with their strong support and determination, they can get through these difficult times and achieve their dreams.
