Evelyn's Regret

Evelyn's Regret
The Forty Five

Evelyn awoke from her sleep after feeling her throat dry. He glanced at the empty glass, though lazy Eve moved towards the kitchen to get drinking water.

Evelyn poured water into the glass and took a sip, a fresh taste greeting as the cold water flowed down her throat.

Eve filled the water back into the glass to keep watch as she felt thirsty again.

The approaching footsteps made Eve turn her head towards the source of the sound. Evelyn's heart thumped as she looked at Noah in sleeping pajamas and disheveled hair walking towards her. The man was so handsome even with such a look.

Noah walked over with his eyes staring intently at Evelyn.

"Eve why haven't you slept" Noah's hoarse voice resuscitated the girl from her daydream.

"I woke up thirsty. Brother want a drink?" Fresh Evelyn, the man nodded.

"Let me take the brother" said Eve, she immediately took the glass and filled it up then handed it to Noah who was seen staring deeply at him. Evelyn's a little groggy because of her.

"Thank you" Noah whispered while receiving the glass Evelyn gave him. He downed the water until the toilet and handed the glass back to Evelyn. There was a sadness on Noah's face that made Evelyn so curious about the cause of the anxiety of the man she loved so much. However her guts were too dwarfed to ask, as Evelyn decided to return to the room.

"Will you go back to the room?" Noah asked as he watched Eve begin to step out of the kitchen.

"Yes, what's wrong, brother?" Evelyn asked after stopping her steps

"Can you hang out with me for a second?" Evelyn frowned in wonder as she looked at the pleading gazes in Noah's eyes. That gaze somehow made Evelyn's heart throb pain.

"Ehem sorry, forget Eve. Good night" Noah smiled faintly and immediately turned his back to leave Evelyn for her room.

"I want to" Evelyn replied quickly, Noah stopped his steps and turned to Evelyn.

"You're not sleepy yet?"

Evelyn shook her head, Noah walked towards Eve and grabbed the girl's hand. Noah leads Evelyn to the living room.

The two sat next to each other on a large sofa. Noah did not intend to turn on the room lights so that the atmosphere looked dim.

"Big brother why?" Evelyn dared to ask.

"It's okay Eve. I just don't want to go back to sleep after I woke up" replied Noah.

"So bad dream?" Evelyn's attentive sound made Noah's heart warm.

"I'm a grown man who shouldn't be afraid just because of nightmares, right? but in fact the dream was so disturbing to me" Noah said with a chuckle.

"Fear is human, brother, if you can know what you dream about?"

Noah did not reply, he just stared deeply at Evelyn. From that gaze Eve caught the doubt. Looks like Noah wasn't so sure about telling the girl.

"It's okay if you don't want to tell a story" Evelyn continued.

"Maybe my sister misses Syahira too much" Evelyn said.

"Well, I seem to miss him" Noah said. Evelyn smiled bitterly, Noah's words slightly shaking her confidence. Evelyn doubts Shahira's words saying that Noah still loves her.

"I miss her so much" Noah whispered again but with a look so attached to Evelyn.

"I miss her so much" Evelyn's heart beat faster, Noah's eyes seemed to lock onto her until she suddenly felt claustrophobic. Evelyn felt as if the longing words spoken were aimed at her. Let's say he's overconfident, but Evelyn can't shake that assumption, all clear in Noah's eyes.

"She also misses you so much" Slowly those words were spoken from Evelyn's lips with a gaze that was no less deep. Wishing Noah could feel the longing vibe coming from the depths of his heart.

"She couldn't have missed me Eve, she left me, threw me away so cruelly" Evelyn's tears rumbled along with a bitter smile that was drawn on Noah's face. Noah seemed to be displaying the wounds he felt. The wound he had been keeping so tightly.

"He made me into Evelyn's pitiful man" The bitter smile never disappeared, ripping Evelyn's heart apart sadistically.

Noah flinched as he looked at the tears running down Evelyn's cheek. He breathed a rough breath. He must finish the discussion that is too deep.

"Ah, why did our conversation become like this. Go back to Eve's room, it seems I need to continue my sleep" Noah said before Evelyn had time to express her heart.

"Take out what's stuck in your heart, brother. I was ready to listen" Noah was stunned for a moment, as though Evelyn had refused to end this conversation.

"Eve is enough, thank you for being my listener"

"Until when does he want to keep hiding? isn't brother tired of constantly reneging on brother's true feelings?" I don't know where the courage is, but Evelyn wants to end this ice. He wanted them to express their long-buried feelings to each other.

"What do you mean Evelyn? I don't understand at all"

"Sister still holds my disappointment? Can we fix the problems between us, brother?" Evelyn finally said.

"Absolutely not Eve, I've forgotten her. I don't feel like we have any problems" Noah replied after a moment of silence.

"Sleep Eve, don't talk about it again. It's all over. I am guilty of you a lot and I hope forgiveness from you. So there is not the slightest disappointment in my heart to you" continued Noah again.

"No brother, there are many things that we must discuss so that nothing else stands out. Please give me some time to straighten out the misunderstanding between us" Evelyn said with a pleading gaze.

"I couldn't live well 5 years ago. I'm haunted by the guilt of having hurt you so deeply. I need forgiveness from you. Whatever I'm gonna do as redemption for my gratitude I was met with someone as good as you"

Noah stared at Evelyn, the words that came from Evelyn's lips shaking his heart, The glint of the past suddenly so lingering in his memory.

"Forget Eve, I don't blame you at all. I'm the guilty one, my attitude forced you to do that. Don't regret it, Eve. Don't feel guilty, I'm fine."

This conversation was so torturous Noah felt, he wanted to end it immediately. The past he had stored so neatly back slowly appeared stifling his chest. Noah immediately got up and hurried to leave Evelyn without turning his head, ignoring the call of the girl.

"Sister I haven't finished talking yet" Lirih Evelyn with tears streaming down.
