All funeral ceremonies are over at 10. Papa and Aunt Yun came along until the end. Everyone has gone home, Ko Derrick brought his own car, drove us to our apartment. I sat quietly with Aunt Yun Lan, she and Aunt these past four days were serving as Mama's host, comforting me as much as they could, but losing someone wasn't that easy.
“Tata, Aunty and Papa nginep same Tata huh?” Suddenly Aunt Yun spoke to me.
“Apartment I small Aunt, better Aunt and Papa at hotel.”
“Ga pa-pa, we can. Papa and Aunt want to accompany you. We're all here. We won't trouble. Aunty is not anti-clean... ” I smile at him.
“Tante very good, thank you. But my apartment is only two rooms, Mama's room has not been cleaned.Kamarku bed is only single. How Papa and Aunt can sleep there. I'm fine.”
“Then Auntie help you berberes okay, later tonight just go back to the hotel. Auntie has no daughter. Only two boys who have dropped out of college, they have their own world, actually lonely Aunt, if at home only a few people at home.” He spoke slowly to me. I smiled at him. “Do not consider other people's aunt from now on. Okay..”
“Thank you.”
“Don't thank us family.”
“Derrick, you've taken care of everything. Thank you.” Papa pats Ko Derrick on the shoulder.
“It should be Ko.” Even though Ko Derrick can't come in during business hours, the night he always comes. And today he's even been in the cemetery since morning. We were going to have dinner with Ko Derrick, Mama was happy but it never happened.
We got to the apartment, the food ordered for guests was still a lot leftover, we brought it upstairs, tidied it up. I looked at this now empty house, still wanting to see Mama sitting at our living room dining table with her tea glasses. I sat there for a moment, my eyes heating up again.
“Do not daydream,.” Aunt Yun Lan saw me sitting up and quietly patted my shoulder gently. “You want to rest? How if you rest first, we're four o'clock back here afternoon ya.”
“Iya Aunt,..” I'm nodding.
“You need anything? Left out of nothing.”
“Gak Ko, just need a nap. Cape to here.” He's lookingat me. Maybe pity left me alone here. But I still have to go through it myself.
“Ya. Call if you need.” With that message everyone left me alone.
Everyone left, I tried not to think about it. Clean the house up to cape, shower, try to sleep while still crying remember Mama. But I was finally able to rest with even puffy eyes.
“Ta, you want to join Papa to HK?” I immediately saw it in wonder.
“Late next month right Pa.”
“I mean Papa, you come with us to HK, work there.” Auntie now explains to me.
“Engga, Mama here, Tata does not want to HK.” I answered them directly. Papa and Aunt Yun Lan looked at.
“You yourself are here, you better join Papa to HK.”
“From first also our own Pa..” I'm silent for a moment, I'm too loud to talk right now. Papa and Aunt Yun Lan fell silent. “Tata here only, Tata has a career here. Tata is not a child, can take care of yourself.”.
“Look, it can not be decided directly like this. You are still sad, you still want to remember Mama. Papa and Aunt are worried about you, you will be there two weeks next month, try to see first... In Hong Kong there are many Indonesians, there are employees at home from Indonesia. You can also often come back here, Papa has a business here, you can learn to supervise, can often come home here.”
I shut up, I know what that means. But it was like leaving Mom. I don't want to get out of here.
“Tata is fine. Papa and Aunt have accompanied the mourning is enough. Later Tata next month has promised Mama will go to HK, Tata will come, same Ko Derrick also went. Papa and Aunt shouldn't worry too much. There is still Aunt Yuni here.”
“Ta,.” Papa seems to want to talk again. But Aunt Yun cut it off.
“Ya we have said that you have seen HK later, but you have to promise two weeks like yesterday okay. If you lied to Auntie herself who came to pick you up.” Looks like they really want me to move to HK. But this Aunt Yun Lan is indeed being very kind to me.
“I've promised Mama Aunty, Papa and Aunty must return. Tata will also work the day after.”
“Tante Yuni you are in Tangerang, 3 hours if it is jammed not yet until the middle of the city, you yourself, just you have to have one maid at home, Papa love you monthly more ..” Papa's still fussing. He's probably worried I'm sick from being sad or something. Papa's good, but he doesn't know finding a maid is also sometimes difficult to match.
“Iya-iya Pa,..” Just let me tell him. All parents consider their children to be small children. Even Aunt Yun Lan thinks I am. Whether all Asian cultures are the same, as long as I have no children of my own I will still be considered ignorant, the life rank equation only applies to the way I have to have my own children in front of these parents? This is not fair.
“Derrick House 15 minutes from here.” Suddenly Aunt Yun spoke. Papa saw his wife.
