Episode 9

“Good,” Hasan replied while stroking Gibran's head, proud.

He doesn't want to remember who Gibran is. Whether he is his real son or not. All he saw was a very clever little boy, very dear to him and hoping that his fate would be much better than his.

Once in a while Hasan looked at Gibran with wet eyes, questioning, why does everything have to be like this? If Gibran hadn't been born out of such a relationship it would have been all the better. For some reason, Hasan seemed to see a dark future in the eyes of a child as small and innocent as that.

That day, Hasan even literally shed his tears when he saw little Gibran was helping sell fish. He kissed the boy's head and hugged him with tears that he couldn't bear anymore. Gibran. He's very clever. He seemed to be able to understand everything better, more than Hasan imagined.

“Bapak take it easy.... Gibran will always be here with you,” said plain Gibran.

To Gibran, Hasan was his father. A father who is truly a father. The little boy knew everything about the affairs of the adults around him. About his life history, about his mother's relationship with Juragan Damar, about Hasan's heartache for that betrayal and about everything. But the little boy chose to be quiet and assume everything never happened. It could be that he was disappointed in his own mother, it could be that he was angry at his biological father. But Gibran prefers to enjoy his life as the son of Hasan, someone who sincerely loves him more than his own biological parents. A person who is extraordinarily steadfast in the face of all that bitter betrayal.

“Gibran also dear Father,”

Hasan held onto Gibran's shoulder, looked at him and advised him on the way forward that would probably be as heavy as his current life. A child who becomes a victim of his parents greed and greed for money and love whose future no one can ever guess. There may be a lot of hatred, blasphemy and anger. But Gibran has to be strong because whatever happens, it's not Gibran's fault.

“You promised me, you are a man so no matter what happens, you have to be strong,” Hasan said.

Gibran looked at Hasan with wet eyes. Gibran was lucky, although his own parents did not care much about him but Hasan was very fond of him. He was amazed and proud because the salted fishmonger did not hate him even after everything that happened.

“Sometimes you will be someone's brother, sister, husband or father. You will be everyone's back. For your children, your wife, your brothers, for yourself and even for your parents. Someday all parents will certainly start old and sickly. At such times, all they were looking for were their children. So you have to be a strong and tough figure, don't crybaby,”

“Gibran promise.... Gibran will be a great man so that no one can insult and play Gibran again,” Gibran replied as if understanding that Hasan did not want him to have the same fate as him, betrayed and played for his helplessness.

“Good,” said Hasan, proud to see Gibran grow up to be a smart and obedient child.
