Gibran was offended. He was heartbroken because everyone still considered him an illegitimate child, a child whose origins were unclear and seemed to be a curse to anyone close to him. Gibran has run so far, but there are still people who insult him. He was furious to see everyone treating him like trash.
Anger made Gibran unable to control his emotions. From a distance he saw the mother opening her purse in front of the ice cream maker. His frustration made Gibran want to avenge his heartache. Then bad intentions appeared in his head. He ran towards the mother. In an instant, Gibran could pick up a black wallet full of 20 thousand bills. Gibran ran as hard as he could to leave the place.
“Copet!!! Copet!!!! You brat..... copet!!!!” yelled the mother.
All the taxi drivers, pedestrians and roadside vendors ran after Gibran. They were shouting Gibran copet. In an instant, the adults with the steps of the level could grab Gibran and violently beat him. Little Gibran is helpless. Although angry and wanted to avenge all those blows but he could not do it.
“Hikz... hikz... hikz.
Gibran cried alone in the dark afternoon. A burst of afternoon sunlight slapped his reddened cheeks from the punches of those adult hands. He wanted to regret his fate but did not know what to regret. He wanted to be angry but did not know who to be angry at. I wanted to scream but it was useless. Gibran really felt alone. The whole day was dark and gloomy. He could not even see a single future before him. Everything's shattered.
Then a station attendant approached him. An old man named Mr. Hashim who was his neighbor from the village was witness to all the misfortune of Gibran. The man sat down beside Gibran and grabbed him. He himself did not know how to explain such a big matter to such a small child. He was only 12 years old but fate seemed to have been very cruel to him. He knows nothing about adult affairs. But it was this poor man who ultimately had to bear all the consequences of his parents' mistakes.
“No one can choose where he will be born and what he looks like,” said Mr. Hashim while embracing Gibran.
Gibran raised his face. The poor boy looks very lost. The joy that should be shown by a child his age is not at all visible. There is only sorrow that seems to always question why all this happened to me? What wrong? Why am I not like my other friends who have complete parents and have perfect happiness?
“No one can choose to be born in a palace or in an old hut. No one can choose to be born as the son of the president or the son of an old beggar. Everything that happens to you, just think of it as a suratan,” continued Mr. Hashim as the only person who would embrace and invite Gibran to talk after previously everyone always insulted him and condemned him as an illegitimate child.
