Debi walked quickly down the aisle of the hospital she was very familiar with. The hallway light shone brightly, as if letting Debi see clearly what was really going on. He suddenly stopped, his breathing was hunting, his chest felt like it was being pierced by a thousand needles.
Debi looked up. He looked at the two middle-aged people who were familiar to him. A man in a black suit with a gloomy face, accompanied by a woman who was sitting crying.
"Debi?" the sound made Debi surprised. When he turned his head, he found Satya-kakak class who had recently become close to him. "Lo is okay? Your face is pale!" he held Debi's arm.
"Rome..." Debi answered slowly. He was still trying to catch his breath. "Due... How's it?"
Satya did not answer. He just looked back at Debi. They remained silent for some time. "You want Rena's parents?"
Debi nodded. Satya helped him to get back on his feet in a stable manner. Once Debi was able to cope with the pain that hit, he walked back. This time he walked slowly. There's no point in him going to the hospital this time.
"Night, Oom, Auntie!" greet Debi. The two people he greeted looked at as soon as he heard his voice. "How's rena?"
The middle-aged woman came back crying. It looked messy, not as usual. Her hair was unraveling haphazardly, her nightgown wrapped her slim body. Her eyes were puffy without touching the slightest make up like a normal day.
"Still in the operating room" replied the man in the suit. "Debi, can you take my wife a break in the waiting room?"
"I don't want to, Pa! My son is inside, fighting for life! How can I rest!?" pekiknya hysterical. His expression showed steady determination. The man opened his mouth again.
"Oom Are you thinking Aunt Nami has dinner? I brought some bread," Satya went forward to hand over the parcel she had brought. But no one accepted. Nami kept crying, while Reka looked at the operating room door.
Debi gestured for Satya to follow him. Before it passed, Satya put her bread parcel near her mother Rena. "Gue doesn't know the full story yet. What's the matter exactly?"
Satya rubbed her nape with worry. "Rena.. Accident."
Debi captures Satya's guilty look. But he did not dare to make a decision. Debi chose to wait for an explanation from Satya. She was already quite shocked to hear the news of Rena being in the hospital from her mother who works at the hospital where Rena is being treated.
From the explanation of his mother, Rena's condition is not good. Rena has to be operated on immediately. There is not much the hospital can do.
"What's up, brother?"
Satya. "Because of my accident."
Debi. His throat felt very dry upon hearing Satya's confession. "What?" Debi asked to be sure. He did not believe what his ears heard.
Satya scratched her forehead. "Rena.. He suddenly ran away. It happened so fast. Then there's the truck" Debi holding Satya's arm, asking her to stop talking. He couldn't imagine what was happening. "Gue's sorry..."
Debi doesn't know what to answer. His mind was full of the shadow of Rena's face. Rena who he knew as long as he lived. Rena always accompanies in difficult times though.
Debi's looking for a seat. His feet felt weak. He couldn't let his heart work any harder. Debi needs a break. Everything was so sudden, it hit him so hard.
"Well all right, Deb?" Satya. He sat down next to Debi.
"I don't want to hear any stories from Satya" Debi explained. "Rena is fighting there again, and I don't want to make Kak Satya the only guilty person here. I'll hear Brother's story when I think it's ready."
Satya stared at the woman in front of her. He was always amazed by the way Debi spoke and thought. Smart women with a lot of skills, except sports. Previously, Satya was ready if he had to be hated by Debi because the friend of the woman was now lying resignedly on the operating table, and for Satya, he was the cause. But reality says something else. He was still given the opportunity to explain in more detail what happened, even though it was not now.
"If Rena wakes up later, I'll apologize to her" Debi murmured. His eyes are still closed. He tried desperately not to cry. If his emotions could not be controlled, it was the end of his consciousness. Debi wanted to stay sober, at least until there was news that Rena was fine.
Satya secretly enjoys the curves of Debi's face. There is rarely such an opportunity. However, in her heart, she knew what made Debi and Rena's relationship stretch. He knows the reason why Rena is angry at Debi who actually knows nothing. Satya lowered her head, choosing to swallow her story deeply. There's no benefit to him if it clouded Debi's mood. It was fortunate that Debi still wanted to talk to him after this incident.
"Son?"
Debi opened her eyes hearing her mother's voice. He bit his lower lip to ease the emotional outburst inside his chest.
"Son, are you okay?" ask the woman in the nurse's uniform. "Quiet, yeah!" the woman sat down next to Debi, then stroked her head full of affection.
"Night, Aunt Linda!" greet Satya.
"Satya, don't you go home?" ask Debi's mother. "You daritadi's here. Already eaten?"
Satya replied with a discordant smile. Linda is known as a kind mother and worries about everything. "In a moment, Tan.. Wanna wait for Rena."
Linda glanced at her son. He realized that his son was trying to calm down. He should not be rash in responding so that his son can remain calm. "Now all we can do is pray. Rena's trying to get in there."
"Rena's gonna make it, right?" Debi made sure, but her own mother did not dare to answer her question. It's too arrogant if Linda determines someone's life-and-death. Anything can happen in the operating room.
"Come on, we're with Rena's parents! They're gonna need our support." Linda helped Debi stand up. They walked together, back to where Rena's parents were.
Just as they arrived, the door of the operating room opened. A man in a dark green uniform came out accompanied by a twenty-year-old woman. "Parents of Rena's Patient?" call him.
Reka and Nami soon approach, as well as Debi, Satya, and Linda. They were all silent, waiting for the sentence that the doctor in charge of Rena would issue.
"We've done everything we can. But the injury that Rena experienced was fatal. Rena's chances of living, not long."
"No way, Doc!" snapped Satya. "So when I took Rena to the hospital, she was still open-eyed when I called! Rena doesn't like that!"
"Sir, please calm down!" the female nurse behind him advanced. "Here the hospital, it's not good to talk so screaming!"
Nami crumbled to the floor. His face was pale. Both of his hands drooped limp on his sides. "My boy.. Gosh darn.. My son.." he muttered softly. He could feel a huge hole appearing within him.
Debi squeezed Linda's hand. When Linda looked down, her son's face was no less pale than Nami's. Linda knows that her son is not okay. "I'm sorry, I have to take Debi to the ER" he said. Rena's parents did not answer. They are busy with their own thoughts.
"Mom.. Pain, Mom.." Debi went instead to squeeze her clothes, enduring the pain.
"Come, come! We're going to the ER! Hold on a little more!"
"Aunty, I'll help you, okay?" Satya crouched down in front of Debi. Debi slumped over Satya's back. "Debi, I beg you! Keep your consciousness!" pinta Satya and started running towards the ER, followed by Linda.
