42. Take and Give

(Three days later.).

Valeda sees Daniel coming out of one of the hospital rooms at Valeda hospital. The rose had been moved to a normal room after not having another seizure on the third day she was treated. Actually, Kris had already prepared a VIP room for the Roses. However, Daniel politely declined it.

Daniel did not intend to use Valeda for the health of the Rose. He'll pay for all the Rose's care. Daniel thought, Valeda doesn't need to get involved if it's related to his sisters.

"How, Dan?" ask Roses.

"He just went to sleep. Looks like you can't see him today" Daniel replied.

The clock showed at nine o'clock in the evening. Surely the Rose has slept at this hour. Actually Valeda wanted to go to the hospital faster, but his work made him hampered doing other activities lately.

"Well, I'll be back tomorrow" Valeda said.

"Not to force yourself. Roses themselves know that you are a busy person. He just wanted to say thank you for helping me" Daniel said.

"But-"

"It's okay, Val. You can visit it when the rose comes home. I know you're busy with your work" Daniel said. "Now want to go home? I'm taking it."

"Let's go eat fast food" Valeda asked.

Daniel's eyebrows are up. "Seriously? You're still hungry after spending two servings of fried rice this afternoon?"

"I want something salty after a spicy meal" replied Valeda. He got up from his seat and led their way towards the hospital parking lot.

A breeze blew as they passed through the hallway of the first-floor hospital. Valeda slowed his pace, hoping Daniel would do the same.

He glanced at Daniel who was walking slowly next to him. Lately, Valeda's new hobby has been to watch Daniel up close. He liked what God was giving him. Valeda likes the type of Daniel. Not only because Daniel is intelligent, but also because of Daniel's behavior with Valeda.

Valeda rarely gets the attention and gentle treatment of her family. He could get all that from Daniel. Valeda felt grateful that she met Daniel that day at the restaurant. His decision to ask Daniel for help turned out to have a good impact on him.

"Why?"

The question that came out of Daniel's mouth all of a sudden, made Valeda jump in shock. "What?" Valeda asked back.

Daniel turned to Valeda. "Why are you so good to me? Are you the same for everyone?" ask Daniel.

Valeda thought for a moment to hear Daniel's question. He recalled the incident where the people he had always considered friends, instead stabbed him in the back. Then, he met Rangga. Ah, Rangga doesn't count. Valeda must behave well with his family. Later, Celine. Valeda was good to Celine, because she thought Celine was giving her an advantage. Celine gave the reciprocity that Valeda wanted. Lastly, Kris. Valeda knew Kris's submissive and honest nature. It would be good to have someone like Kris by his side.

"No. I'm not as good as you have in mind" Valeda replied at last. "It can be said, I became a cunning person after all the experience I had."

Daniel chuckled at hearing it. "I like the way you think, Val. It is not always necessary to be kind to everyone" Daniel said. "It's not wrong you've been this successful at such a young age."

Valeda shook his head slowly. "I'm not successful because of the way I think. But also because of the opportunity I had. You could say, I'm rich because my father is rich too."

"You're right" Daniel replied, throwing a face away. "At least, the present Mr. Suherman wouldn't be like my father who committed suicide by bankruptcy."

"What?"

Daniel turned back to Valeda. "My father killed himself after being cheated on by his coworkers. He was short-minded and missed my mother too much."

"Ma... Sorry," Valeda said. He actually knew that Daniel's father died by suicide. But, hearing it directly from Daniel made his body fixate and turn cold.

Valeda swallowed his saliva with great difficulty. "Revenge?" whispered. Those words made him cringe to himself. Daniel, who had the stamp 'good man' in Valeda's mind, said of a vengeance.

Daniel patted Valeda's head gently. "You don't need to know. You won't lose anything."

'Stay, it scares me, ' Inner Valeda.

"So, have you met your little friend?" daniel changed the subject.

Valeda grunted in annoyance. "Why suddenly bring up Rangga?" valeda Protest. He thought the mood was good right now, but Daniel ruined it by asking Rangga.

Daniel shrugged his shoulders. "I just want to know."

"I was too busy with this and that, so I didn't have time to see him" Valeda replied.

Valeda could see that Daniel was smiling at a glance. The thought that Daniel was rather horrible a moment ago, instantly disappeared from his mind.

"Does he still call you 'Love'?" ask Daniel again.

"Can we talk about something else?" valeda's Proposal. "Oh, yes! By the way, about your continuation to college, Celine already cleared everything up this afternoon." Valeda remembered the documents Celine had handed over when she was about to leave the office. "I just read a quick glance. I put the documents in the car."

"Ah... I forgot that I needed to go to college too" replied Daniel honestly.

"You can read it during the trip later" suggested Valeda.

Kris, who saw Valeda and Daniel walking closer, got out of the car and opened the door for them.

"Hurry back, Miss?" kris asked as Valeda arrived in front of him. Kris stretched out his hand over Valeda's head as Valeda was about to get into the car.

"The rose is asleep. I'm late here" replied Valeda.

"Now go straight home?" ask Chris before closing the door.

Valeda. "I want fast food. Let's drive thru," replied Valeda.

Kris closed the car door, then headed straight for the steering wheel. Daniel sat down next to the steering wheel. "How's your sister, Dan?"

"Thanks to you, he's improved. The fever had gone down and the Roses had started to eat voraciously," Daniel replied with a smile.

"Good indeed... I'm really grateful for the good news" Daniel said.

Valeda checked the documents she had tucked in the back of Kris's chair before they went to the hospital. He chose the documents Daniel needed for college. "Here, Dan," Valeda thrust the document into the front seat.

Daniel accepted it. He opened the document Valeda gave him and read it quickly. "It seems like this college schedule is pretty solid. I can't take it" Daniel said after ten minutes.

"I will reduce your hours" Valeda replied from the back seat. "I want you to take this chance, Dan!"

Daniel took a long breath. "Nobody has benefited more in this situation than myself." Daniel closed the document in his lap. He glanced back a glance. "Don't be too nice to me, Val."

"I am doing this because you will benefit me" Valeda replied. "Remember that my parents are watching us both right now. If they know that we're just pretending, I can get married by Mama's choice."
