Eighteen years later
The chariot, symbolizing the flag of the Lumiere family, is now seen entering the palace grounds. The Duke of Lumiere, a man over forty years old, got out of his carriage. It still looked so handsome and young as if the eighteen-year period did not dare to touch his physique significantly. All the palace residents also knew the man in the white coat. Serempak bowed respectfully as Zachary passed in front of them, leaving the characteristic scent of a proud and powerful Pine behind his hurried steps.
"His Majesty's been waiting for you since this morning, Your Grace."
"Yes. I know," replied Zachary briefly. Without stopping his steps, he continued walking towards the circular staircase that stood firmly in the middle of the palace. They actually worship God, but Greek statues contribute to decorate the visual palace so that it looks luxurious and elegant.
Lord Demion, the king's confidant smiled as he realized Zachary's arrival from the direction of the stairs. He hurriedly stood up, then lowered his head a sign of his reverence.
"His Majesty is inside."
The double-carved door was opened. Because only Zachary was summoned, only the man was allowed to face the king.
The typical wood-wood room that seems more traditional and natural is enough to spoil the eye for anyone who visits the room. This room is certainly not the official workspace of the king. The official room is located right next to the throne room which is in the Northern part of the palace.
In the main seat, the king was waiting. His sharp eyes kept an eye on the Duke of Lumiere's movements until he made a sound,
"Duke, is your respect for me gone?"
Within seconds, Zachary did not reply. The man immediately calmed down with his head lowered deeply.
"I'm sorry for my grave sin, Your Majesty. This was purely due to my negligence. I'm teledor. Hope you punish me severely."
Instead of further anger, Hudson— the king laughed lightly. With a funny face, he replied, "I'm kidding, Zack. Stand up, I know how big your pride is so don't embarrass yourself by squabbling there," he said still accompanied by amused ugliness.
If he wasn't king, Zachary might have strangled him to the point of being out of breath. Really, he will. Given that Zachary was more skilled on the battlefield than Hudson, who since childhood continued to devote himself to the library, it was likely that the duke would have succeeded in carrying out his dirty intentions.
Hudson and Zachary were the most intimate of the sons of the previous king. They were brothers, but from different mothers. If Hudson was born to a queen, then Zachary was born to their father's favorite concubine. Inevitably, Zachary was included in the third in the future succession to the Sasanian throne after the crown prince and Hudson's seventh son, Lucas Maximilian, the lucky imbecile.
"Don't give such a deadly look, I'm calling you here of course to discuss something" Hudson said quickly before Zachary actually carried out his ill-intention.
"What should I do, Your Majesty?"
"Ish, it's so stiff" Hudson murmured as he opened the sheet lying at the end of his desk. "After generations of fighting each other, Brodsway has finally sent us a peace treaty. What say?"
"Well, now this is the problem" said Hudson puzzled. "They want a daughter from us. But you know for yourself that I don't have a single princess in a palace this big. There were only a dozen sons. So how?"
Apparently, political marriage. Zachary understands.
The man frowned, "Can't it if we send one of the princes?"
"Can't because all their daughters are married and already have some children—even grandchildren. There remains the youngest prince who plans to marry the princess of our country" Hudson replied frustratedly.
"Then what should I do?" ask Zachary again.
"It's hard to just make small talk with you, brother," the king grumbled once more. "Your daughter. What's-her-name? Ah, I forgot. Point is. He is the one who will replace this honorable position as the envoy of Sasania."
"Are you crazy, Your Majesty?!" pekik Zachary is stuck. "He grew up with that woman. Surely now she became a wild girl who in the future would be hated by many nobles. You sure gave up the honor for him, why not just hand over something as important as that to Marquis Alfred?!"
"First of all, I'm not crazy. Your daughter's grown up, it's time to get married instead of playing around like a kid. Blood is thicker than water, duke. Don't forget it's that he's also your flesh and blood" Hudson recalled sharply. "And the second, still discussing the first point. I think you're the crazy one here. Leaving your own daughter in the world of nowhere out there while you can live a life of luxury in your castle. Think a little about his future, duke."
Zachary looked away. Making his daughter —which even he himself did not know his name was— as an envoy from Sasania to Brodsway was definitely not good news. Zachary had to re-educate her to become the perfect lady, give her a special lesson of nobility, and maybe then the little girl was ready. It takes a long time, and Zachary hates wasting time.
Designing? Didn't Margaret return to her old mansion now owned by Earl Averish, the woman's half-sister. Clearly he and his son must be living in a treasure.
For eighteen years Zachary never once wanted to let alone find out about Margaret. Where the woman lives, what's her son's name, or whatever. No. gabe. Zachary's too busy. There is no time for romance let alone the border between Sasania and Brodsway is almost never calm. This political marriage, a breath of fresh air and disaster for Zachary. The feud of the two kingdoms will end, but it is he who again must be bothered.
"How about the Duke of Lumiere?"
Zachary sighed. There seemed to be no other choice but to nod in agreement even though his heart was heavy. After this, Sasania had a huge debt towards him.
"Give me about a year to educate her to be an honorable lady. That's if you don't want Sasania and Brodsway's relationship to get worse because of the mistakes she made there."
Hudson smiled broadly. At certain times it takes intimacy so that every relationship does not stretch. "I know you'll never let me down, sister."
Afterwards the Duke of Lumiere walked out of the king's room without paying his respects. His attitude was always brazen, but never once did he disappoint Hudson. His achievements were resplendent, but his haughty nature was sometimes really annoying.
"There's no reason for you to leave my niece, Zack," Hudson murmured with a deep sigh.
