Two hours passed and finally the conversation of Declan and His Majesty the King ended. The tea in front of him had already cooled down since an hour ago. Inside the glass room, Declan looked outside. He noticed the moon was getting higher and higher, a sign that the night was getting late.
"It's been too late. What if you guys just stay in my palace?"
Declan shook his head faintly, "It looks like we just go home, Your Majesty."
"Well if that's what you want, I can't ban it" Hudson replied unwillingly. "Oh, one more. If your father has calmed down, please tell him that I want to talk."
Declan raised his eyebrows. "Why not now while His Grace is here?"
Hudson laughed softly. "He was angry and it was pretty scary. I better keep it safe, right?" he was punctuated by jokes.
Even the number one person in Sasania was afraid of the Duke of Lumiere? Justjust wonderful.
Reluctantly convoluted, Declan finally answered him with a brief nod. "I'll tell you."
"Good." Hudson then stood up, followed by Declan who in any condition still showed his manners. As a sign of farewell, the king patted his nephew on the shoulder. Treat Declan exactly like his own son.
"With your intelligence, in the future I'm sure you'll be much wiser than Zachary. Don't waste the road you've been on right now. And let me emphasize once again, don't let your brothers usurp the next Duke of Lumiere position, understand?"
"Understand, Your Majesty."
"It's good to hear it" the king replied before giving a faint smile, then leaving the room accompanied by several bodyguards who walked firmly behind him.
That was Hudson, his uncle and the most ambitious Sasanian king to make Declan as duke who replaced Zachary. He suppressed Declan, even surpassing the Duke of Lumiere himself.
"My Lord." After the departure of the king, Rai who incidentally is a bodyguard as well as Declan's right hand was only able to meet his master. His voice was full of anxiety, making Declan frown.
"What's up, Rai?"
"Her Ladyship and your other siblings are having fun in the hall," he murmured softly.
"Then what's wrong?"
"The problem is Lady Luvena drunk—" Rai was surprised when Declan suddenly ran out even though the explanation was not finished. "H, My Lord!"
"Just been left for a few hours he's been troublemaking?" Declan growled furiously. The threaded stairs that must be passed increasingly make Declan want to curse so badly. "That one .. watch out later!"
"Revelation!" Rai was shocked when he saw the impatient Declan decided to jump from the top rather than spend a few seconds of his time to go down the stairs one by one.
Due to midnight, the palace hallway was much quieter than during the day. There were only a few soldiers standing guard around the hallways, carrying torches and spears in their hands. Declan's steps widened as he looked at the light coming from inside the hall. If anything happens to Eve, Declan won't spare Ethan.
Not waiting long after being at the door, Declan immediately broke into him just like a security officer who managed to catch a drug kingpin. Up ahead, on a rectangular table look Ethan and Beckett who both look chaotic while holding a jug of wine in their hands. Likewise with General Nicholas, the man who managed to become a general at a relatively young age was seen holding the face in both hands placed on the table. Even though his gaze never separated from Eve who was sitting flanked by her two brothers.
And Eve herself was no better than the three of them.
Noticing the general's different gaze to his younger brother, Declan's gaze turned dark. Rai who had just made it was shocked by the change of the Lumiere heir.
"Tray. Quickly get General Nicholas out of here before I pry both his eyeballs."
Declan's words sound serious. Even Rai had felt the fur of his back standing for a while. With a broken nod, he immediately approached Declan. "B-well, My Lord."
After ordering this, Declan approached Ethan with a fist ready to land on Lumiere's face. "Fuck Ethan, why do you dare to get Eve drunk, ha?!"
Ethan, who felt that his collar was being pulled down, could only look at his sister. Then put on a smile. "Drunken? Wh who? Eve's not drunk, really. He's dancing among the stars." Ethan pointed at the auctioneer hall. "Look, that's my sister. The most beautiful."
Damn, Ethan's drunk too. But once he regains consciousness, he won't survive Declan's rampage.
At first glance Beckett who is more or less like Ethan can only make Declan riled. Without a word, he pulled Eve into his carrier. He also forgot his two brothers who had lost consciousness.
Let them stay there until tomorrow!
A warm Eve sucked her nose between the chest of Declan's field covered in thick clothes. "Eum, this is Declan's scent. You stole my sister's perfume, huh?"
Declan glanced at him at a glance, then clucked. "Ck, troublesome."
"Yes, you're right. Life is troublesome and boring until I feel like I want to die. Or better to die, huh? I don't have to worry about plans going forward. My life would be happy if I didn't do anything!"
The deserted palace hallway was simply decorated by Eve's insignificant babble. Instead of answering the drunken remark, Declan decided to keep quiet until Eve felt tired herself.
"Hey, since your face is similar to one of my most handsome brothers, then I will tell you my 'little' plan. Something Declan really wanted to know, a secret I never shared with anyone else" Eve muttered with flushed cheeks, a sign she was heavily intoxicated.
Declan's move stopped. Since Eve has said that she has her own plans, Declan always guessed what Eve wanted.
The proverb that the palace walls have ears is not nonsense. Declan knew that. From someone hearing Eve's utterances and reporting them to the king of Sasania, better he quickly move by carrying his sister's body to one of the guest rooms that the king had prepared before offering them to stay overnight.
Looks like Declan has to accept the king's offer to spend the night in the palace.
"Now say. What's your plan."
Eve rolled comfortably when her body was successfully put together with a soft bed. Declan knows this is cheating. He was scraping information from drunk people. But what can be done, curious increasingly hit him.
At least Declan had to make sure that Eve wasn't planning anything dangerous.
"I want to be the next duke."
Eve's words just slid through. Declan's sistak stiffened. From those few sentences, he knew what his sister was going to do.
"For mom. But I know it's not easy let alone the Duke of Lumiere is a tough opponent to beat. But obviously, I'm going to kill him. One day." someday."
"But ... What about your brother?" ask Declan to tremble.
"Brother?" Eve chuckled, "If they get in my way, maybe they will have the same fate as her father. Let alone Lumiere's heir." He hissed annoyedly, "If it's a sibling, I'll still be on your side. From what I've seen, Declan's not very interested in mom's life away from Carringtown. He was busy thinking about himself. You can imagine if he becomes the next duke. Being respected, but not being able to act for the people closest to him. The one who gave birth to her."
Receiving more criticism than the king or the Duke of Lumiere, Declan felt like his body was doused in ice water. Is that as bad as he was in Eve's eyes?
"Sleep." Declan gave up on the facts that attacked him like arrows being thrown together. Gently, he pulled the blanket up to the chest for Eve who was fast asleep in seconds.
"If you want to kill me, Eve. Then do it." Declan smiled bitterly. He rubbed his sister's forehead that was soaked in sweat. "Do it if you think I'm a barrier to your ambition" he said before leaving and closing the door very slowly.
