Having killed his father, his mother was sentenced to 7 years in prison and that made Kania even more devastated. The house in his place is forced to be sold and Kania lives in a boarding room while working on the side.
While in prison, his mother always rampaged to make him locked in a separate room and it happened not once. Due to her unusual attitude, the team of doctors finally tried to examine her mentally and once again Kania had to hear the news that her mother was declared mentally impaired.
Because of his condition, his mother was taken to a mental hospital and spent the rest of her time there. And now, Kania has to go back to hearing about the disease that her mother is now suffering from. Diseases that make it have to rotate the brain to get the cost of treatment which of course is very expensive. "Dok, then what about my mother's care?"
"I talked to my friend about it and he was willing to take care of your mother in the hospital, but you know it all costs a lot. As for her legal matters, your mother has already gotten relief during the treatment period, so it all depends on you. If you have a fee for your mother's treatment, then tomorrow I'll refer her to my friend's hospital." The young doctor explained carefully, as he knew how Kania had sacrificed all this time for her mother.
"Dok, give me three days, but I beg you that my mother can get treatment. He's the only family I have. Whatever happens, I'll keep trying to get my mom treated." The girl then got up and stood in front of the young doctor. "Dok, please take care of my mother, I'll look for a job and I'll definitely return with money for the mother's treatment." Kania then left with the restraint of tears. The young doctor simply stared at his departure with pity.
Kania walked over while wiping away her tears. It felt, his body was already exhausted from enduring endless suffering.
Shamelessly, Kania goes through every shop offering herself to work, but they always refuse.
On the park bench, under the light, Kania sat down while crying. He wanted to die because he could not bear the pain that never ended. He was looking for a job, but he was always rejected.
The omission of the small wallet he always carried and saw the contents of the wallet that returned to make him shed tears. For five years he worked, and during that time the money he made was always used up to pay the rest of his father's debt. Not to mention the cost of his mother's treatment that makes him have to work harder. In fact, she had no place to live because she had always slept in an empty room in the hospital where her mother was treated.
The phone suddenly shocked him. While filtering her tears, Kania answered the call that turned out to be from Bastian.
"Where are you?" ask Bastian.
Kania did not answer. He still adjusted his breath and voice so that his best friend did not suspect him. "I'm in the garden."
"Ordinary park?"
"He-it."
"Yes, wait for me. I'll be there." Phone connection disconnected. Kania put her phone back in and stared around the dimly lit park.
Shortly after, a motorbike stopped in front of him. It was seen a young man walking up to him while carrying a bag of crackles in his hand. "You must be hungry, let's eat." Bastian sat down beside him and placed the crackle bag on the bench and began to open it.
"Eat, it's still hot." Bastian thrust a pack of fried rice at him. Not to forget a bottle of mineral water and a plastic spoon were also carried.
Kania looked at him and a clear water droplet fell on his cheek.
"Come on, don't cry. Is it because of this fried rice that you have to cry? Kania, did you bring me fried rice when I was in school crying like you? No, right?" Bastian smiled as he wiped away the tears that had soaked his best friend's face.
"Let's get eaten, otherwise, I'll bribe you." Bastian then opened the fried rice wrapper and wanted to bribe it, but Kania immediately took the fried rice and devoured it.
Bastian looked at his friend's behavior with a smile, even though deep down he felt a tremendous pain. The friend who used to always bring him provisions, who always helped him when he was in trouble, now looks bad in his life. All the luxuries of life that he had once felt, disappeared evaporate left nothing and only left a deep grievous wound.
"How's your mother doing? Is he starting to improve?" Kania stopped the chewing in his mouth and put a wrap of fried rice that was almost finished.
"My mom is fine." Kania's face looks flat. He dropped a bottle of mineral water and began to gulp it down.
"Are you hiding something from me?" Bastian looked at him as if he knew that his best friend was hiding something from him.
"Is there anything I can hide from you?" Kania put her face back down.
"Your anxiety. I know that from the way you are, your face and your attitude in front of me. I know you're nervous because you're thinking about something. Kania, I've been your best friend for 9 years and I've memorized your habits. What I'm saying is true, right?" Bastian looked at Kania with sharp eyes as if he wanted to ask for an explanation from the girl.
Kania still lowered her face as if she did not want to look weak. With a smile, Kania looked at him. "I'm fine."
"I know you're lying. Aye, right?"
"I'd better get back." Kania stood up, but Bastian grabbed her hand and hugged her. "If you want to cry, cry. This is all I can give you. Lean on me and pour out your cry." Bastian hugged her tightly and leaned the girl's head against his chest. The jacket she wore then covered Kania's body which was now crying in her arms.
Inside Bastian's arms, Kania spilled her sadness. Right now, Kania needs a place to lean on and Bastian understands that. And now, Kania cried vanishing all the turmoil in her heart on the man's chest. The agitation and unease over his bad luck.
The young man could only hear the so heart-wrenching sobbing cries. The crying that made her cry. Slowly, Bastian pointed his hand at Kania's head and gently stroked the girl's head. "This is all I can give you. I don't have the treasure you need right now. If only I were destined to have treasures, then I would give them all for you, just for you," Bastian's mind slowly shed tears. Hugged her best friend until the sound of the girl's cry stopped and slowly released her embrace.
"Can I hear about your problem?" bastian asked as he grabbed Kania's hand and invited her to sit down.
Kania wiped away the rest of her tears. "My mother had Leukima stage 3 and had to be treated immediately before her illness got worse." Kania tried hard, but her tears fell back to make her bow her face.
Hearing the news, Bastian was unable to say. Only the hands and hugs he could give his best friend. "Patience. I will always pray for you and your mother so that all these problems can be quickly resolved." Kania nodded and smiled, because all that had always been there for her was Bastian. Only the young man made Kania able to endure and be patient in the face of every ordeal.
In front of a simple house, their motor stopped. A middle-aged woman floated a smile as she looked at Kania. Immediately, the woman hugged him. "Why did you just come here? Is it because of Bastian that you no longer want to come to this house?" asked the woman while looking at her scowling-looking son.
"Kania, look, right? I'm being blamed again because you're no longer here."
Kania smiled as she looked at the woman who was very close to her children. "No aunt, I just don't have time, so I rarely come here." Kania tries to defend Bastian and the woman smiles.
"Yes, Auntie understands, really." The woman pinched gently on Kania's cheek.
"It so happens that you come, let's eat together." Kania's hand grabbed him and invited him to sit at a simple dining table.
"Sister, let's sit down." A young girl shocks her daydream. He was so moved by the togetherness of the family he had known from 9 years ago.
Kania smiled and nodded. Near Bastian, Kania sat down. Although he was already feeling full with fried rice given by Bastian, but seeing the atmosphere of the house and their togetherness made Kania sit down and eat dinner with them.
Laughter was heard in that simple house. Although simple and mediocre life, but they are happy. Happy because they can still be together. They are happy because they care for each other and love each other. A long time of happiness not felt by him.
That night, Kania can sleep soundly despite so many burdens of life borne by him. The atmosphere of the house, a comfortable bed and home cooking that had not felt for a long time, can now be felt by him to make him cry in silence.
In the room which only measures 2×2 m3, he felt comfortable. It was as if the room was a little heaven that God had given her. He so enjoyed the warmth of the blanket that now covered his body with the softness of the mattress that made him close his eyes. He wanted to sleep and not wake up again. All that comfort was like a gift from heaven to her.
Not felt, that comfort has made him fall asleep with a beautiful dream that has now wrapped him in his deep sleep. Dream about someone smiling at him. Someone who is difficult for him to forget from his heart and also his memory.
Sayup-sayup heard the sound of chickens crowing with the morning sunlight that began to emerge from the window slit. Slowly, Kania opened her eyes and looked around. Suddenly, he was shocked and got up from the bed which made him fall asleep without the slightest bit awake. He put the phone in his bag and looked at the clock on his screen. "It's half-seven, I have to hurry." Kania then came out of the room and headed to the bathroom to clean her face, but her steps stopped when she saw Bastian who was already standing in front of her.
"Here's the towel, after that we have breakfast." Bastian gave her a towel and smiled at her. Kania nodded and walked into the bathroom and how surprised she was when in front of the mirror she saw her disheveled hair.
Although a little embarrassed because of her appearance in front of Bastian, Kania did not care and just smiled in front of the mirror while tidying up her hair.
At the dinner table, Bastian was already waiting for him. "Where are your mothers and sisters going?"
"Mom's been to the market after breakfast and my sisters haven't woken up yet. Come on, let's have breakfast first and then we'll go."
Kania nodded and sat down at the dining table. A plate of fried rice with egg ceplok is already available for him. Kania smiled and grabbed the plate towards her.
"Why? Are you tired of fried rice? Well, then, I'll buy some rice in the front, okay?"
"No need, I love your mother's fried rice. It tastes better than any fried rice." Kania ate the fried rice greedily. Fried rice with the same taste since it was first devoured in the past. The sense that never changed made him smile because he remembered their friendship.
"Where are you going?"
"I'll find a new job." Kania is still fun to eat as if so enjoy the fried rice.
"What job?"
"See, whatever vacancies are needed, I'll do it."
After eating, Kania washed the dishes. "Hurry up, I'll be late." Bastian stood up leaving Kania who had not finished washing the dishes before.
"Yes, yes." Kania immediately ran over and grabbed the helmet Bastian had thrust at her.
"Take me to the mall, I'd like to pick up my clothes at the store." Bastian nodded and they left.
In front of the mall, their bike stopped. "Don't forget to eat. Remember, health is important." Bastian's message before leaving Kania. The girl nodded.
Kania then walks towards the store and finds Eva who is waiting for him. "Kania, think about your decision. Ms. Riska had already pulled her words back then and asked you to work again." Eva tries to persuade, but Kania is already disappointed.
"Already, Brother. I'm fine, after all Sister Eva still works here I'm very grateful. Thank you, Brother and take care of your health. I'll go first." Kania picked up the bag containing her clothes and left the place with tears in her eyes.
Not intermittent after his departure, Arya came and wanted to see him. "What's? He no longer works here?" Arya was shocked when she heard Eva's explanation.
"Then do you know where he is now?"
"Sorry, Sir. Kania doesn't tell me where she's going to work and I don't know her home address, but if you want, I'll give you her phone number." Arya nodded and wrote Kania's mobile number on her phone. After saying thank you, Arya then left.
