The Promise You Make
"Sister.. will you forget me immediately when I am buried? I was afraid to be alone.." Luna's smile disappeared instantly, tears welled up her cheeks and Luna's hoarse voice made Jester's heart feel like it was sliced - iris.
A clear night sky in Paris, France, moonlight emits bright light accompanied by a sprinkling of stars that illuminate a busy street with visitors enjoying an open-air cinema. In one of the neatly arranged chairs at the time, Jester and Luna looked sad and stared at each other. The lively and laugh-filled atmosphere that had been created instantly became sadness because of the question that Luna conveyed to Jester, Jester's heart felt tight to see Luna cry and look at him so sad. Luna's voice was excruciating for Jester, an atmosphere that Jester never expected to happen in his life.
"I... want to enjoy this movie.. shouldn't that be what we're going to do tonight?" ask Jester while throwing your face away avoiding eye contact with Luna, in the depths of his heart Jester was still full of hope Luna could recover from her pain because it made him unable to answer Luna's question.
"Sister.." not finished yet Luna said, Jester cut.
"Don't you say we're here to be happy? why did you break your own words? or should we just go home and end this as you say?" tanya Jester pressed Luna, Luna's hand slowly wiped the tears that had come out soaking her cheeks.
"You're right..why I got carried away with this unpleasant atmosphere.pardon me.." Luna said, Jester cut back.
"No need to apologize, I'm wrong for luring you with my questions.I'm the same as you, I'm afraid of losing you. But now I just want you to be happy, I will realize your happiness from this moment on. let's just enjoy our moment together" said Jester as he looked back at Luna, with a surprised face, Luna looked at the smiling Jester.
"Check list of your dreams.Let's do our best, I promise I will continue to accompany you to do it" said Jester sounding excited, feeling the spirit that makes Luna's smile line was again visible.
"Promise me to finish that checklist?" asked Luna while thrusting her little finger, Jester was stunned to look at Luna's little finger at that time.
Only Jester realized that Luna's body changes were very visible after paying attention to Luna's finger, for the first time since Luna's presence back in her life Jester noticed Luna well. Luna's body was so frail, her fingers looked so small as just skin wrapped around the bones, her wrists shrunk and her meroon white skin turned pale white. A scene that slices Jester's heart and makes Jester have to be extra hard to stem the defense of his tears to look strong in front of Luna.
"Why? don't you dare to make a promise with me?" asked Luna sounding annoyed waiting for Jester to tie their little finger, Jester smiled and hooked his little finger with Luna's little finger.
"As soon as I felt you were treating me like a child" Jester replied with a small laugh accompanying each word, Luna laughing at Jester's words.
"Where's your promise? you just put your finger on my finger" Luna said, her jutek face was visible.
"I promise. Whatever happens, I'll finish your checklist. Provided you also promise to try to recover" said Jester, Luna was stunned to look at Jester's face and did not feel her tears flowing again but Luna's smile was visible at that time.
"Thank you Kak~ I promised to try to heal" said Luna, then they both returned to enjoy the film interspersed with small talk that accompanied them. The sound of laughter was heard following the laughter of talking about the movie they watched that night, their smiles they enjoyed the night. In the middle of the film Jester and Luna took pictures together and Luna also ticked one of her dreams in a small pink note, eagerly Luna showed the rest of her dreams to Jester.
Two more hours passed and the film was finished playing, Jester stood up and was about to push the wheelchair that Luna had been sitting in since. Along the way, Luna was silent, unlike usual where Luna always invited Jester to chat, because she was worried that Jester would open a conversation to break the silence between them.
"Luna are you okay?" ask Jester while pushing Luna's wheelchair back to the hospital where Luna is being treated
"I'm fine, why brother?" ask Luna
"You... more silent than usual, what's wrong?" sounding worried Jester asked, Luna's laughter sounded faint.
"I'm sleepy. I'm sorry, brother, I'm bothering you" Luna replied, Jester sighed.
"It's okay, go to sleep." softly Jester said.
Along the way Luna was asleep, Jester was more careful when pushing Luna home to the hospital. A few minutes passed in front of the hospital when Jester saw John and Lisa standing not far from the hospital door with a face that looked worried to see Luna who was asleep, the two of them walked over to Jester.
"Is Luna okay young Mr Gates?" john sounded worried
"She's fine.just fell asleep the whole way.." replied Jester trying to make John and Lisa not panic.
"Thank you young master Gates." it sounds sad Lisa said, Lisa also looks to shed her tears and make Jester look unwell.
"It's okay, Miss Lincoln. This is my promise with her, so don't think about it" Jester said, sounding a little frantic at Lisa's tears, John embraced Lisa softly and stroked her - elus shoulder.
"You're a good man, young master Gates, not many people would care like you if you were in this position... Luna is very disturbing your relationship with young Miss Scott, whether if not you and young Miss Scott who Luna disturb.
"I'm just doing what I have to do." Jester timps with a big smile at John and Lisa, hearing Jester's words John and Lisa seem relieved. John walks up to Jester and takes over to push Luna into his room, slowly Jester takes a few steps back to let John bring Luna back into the room.
"Young Mr. Gates, I don't know if I can say this to you or not." chirped Lisa as John walked far enough to get Luna into the hospital, Jester looked curious looking at Lisa.
"What's the matter, Miss Lincoln?" ask Jester
"Since Junior High when he learned of his illness and his short life expectancy, Luna had always confined herself in her room and was only pensively without any spirit at all. Only young Ms. Parker can make it back out of the room, but Luna never smiled again from that time until she finally graduated Junior High School and at High School met you..." lisa's reply sounded hoarse because she held back her crying, Jester was stunned to see Lisa's face.
"Luna's smile on her way home from school.it was the sweetest smile I've ever seen, a smile that had long been buried... Luna said she found her love and that she was diligent in her treatment and consultation with her doctor, but fate was really cruel to her..." unfinished Lisa said, Jester cut.
"Was it during the third-grade farewell at school?" ask Jester while lowering his head
"I love him too. Now I don't deserve to say it, but I still love him. I'm so sorry I didn't know this truth sooner, but right now all I can do is make her happy with whatever I can give her" Jester gently said, as Lisa cried again at Jester's words.
"Thank you.. Thank you for loving Luna and giving her such wonderful memories.Thank you for all the smiles you've created on Luna's face..." with tears dripping on Lisa's face said it, not feeling Jester's tears suddenly flowed and Luna's voice arrived - suddenly ringing in the head when Luna mentioned Jester's name.
Amidst the atmosphere of the day, there was a commotion inside the hospital that caught the attention of Lisa and Jester, when several nurses ran in the same direction as Luna's room. With a little Jester running and Lisa entering the hospital and seeing what was inside, Jester stopped one of the nurses who happened to pass by.
"What's the commotion?!" jester asked, sounding a little panicked
"The patient on behalf of Miss Luna Lincoln is in critical condition, emergency surgery will be carried out. What is the patient's family member? the doctor was waiting to explain the details" the nurse replied sounding panicked, the nurse's reply jolted and her spirit dimmed.
"Where?" asked Jester who sounded trembling, his eyes widened looking terrified.
"There is a doctor's room, you ask there" the nurse replied as she gave a gesture pointing to one of the hallways, with a swift Jester running towards the doctor's room. In front of the doctor's office, Jester saw John sitting on the wall near the entrance to the doctor's office, with his head bowed and heavy tears dripping on the floor made Jester realize Luna's condition was very critical.
"What... What happened to Mr. Lincoln?" jester asked with a breath that sounded heavy, Jester's body trembled violently waiting for John's answer.
"The swelling of Luna's spleen is already intolerable.The surgical removal should be carried out immediately..but this is very risky.." replied John trying to hold back his tears, Jester felt like he had been struck by lightning in a hole when he heard John's answer.
At the same time Lisa called Selena and then a few minutes later, seen Selena, Naomi, Justin, Grece, Luke and Harry also ran to approach Jester, John and Lisa who were waiting for Luna at the entrance of the operating room. Lisa's cry added to Selena and Naomi's panic at that time, Naomi who saw Jester pensively walked over to Jester took the initiative to ask what had really happened.
"What happened Jess?" naomi asked sounding panicked but she tried to keep looking calm
"I don't know.. I just got word that Luna has to run the operation as soon as possible." replied Jester sounding sad, Selena's crying voice, Lisa, Lisa, and Grece adds to the atmosphere of the place.
Two hours passed, the operating signal lights above the entrance were extinguished. Jester, Naomi, Selena, John, Lisa, and Grece walked over to the entrance, with a heart full of worry and panic all waiting for the results of the completed operation. In the hallway of the hospital, there were footsteps from some people who walked slowly towards the door. Not long after the door opened, there they stared at the team of doctors coming out simultaneously. Several doctors walked away from the family waiting for results, with only one doctor approaching Jester, Naomi, Selena, John, Lisa and Grece.
"Mr Gates, we're very sorry about what happened. Ms. Luna's surgery failed.." said the doctor as he removed the mask attached to his face.
"Luna!!" Naomi who understands French immediately hysterically Naomi yells Luna's name when she hears the doctor's conversation with Jester, seeing Naomi's reaction when it makes Selena, Grece, Justin, Luke and Harry know that Luna is dead.
The cries of Naomi, Lisa, Grece and Selena broke instantly, Jester seemed to lose his strength to make him sit with a face that looks heavy shock. Luke and Harry were silent at Jester who was so down, but they both seemed to want to cry at that moment. Justin who had been silent since then finally was unable to hold back his tears, he walked out of the hospital hallway to be alone. Driven William saw Justin coming out with tears, Realizing Luna was dead at that time William just sighed as he continued to walk closer to the operating room.
There William saw everything crying, but his eyes were fixed on the child who just sat on the floor. His breathing returned to him and then walked to the doctor who was still unable to leave the patient's family, William extended his hand to the doctor and not long after the doctor welcomed William's handshake.
"Thank you for the hard work of the doctor, you can leave us" William said, shaking hands with the doctor
"We're so sorry" the doctor said, letting go of his handshake and leaving, not long after William walked up to John, who was still holding Lisa with tears soaking his face.
"I'm sorry, I know it's hard but I hope you're strong. Hospital affairs and the management of the body let the Gates family take care of it" William said as he stuck his hand toward John, seen shaking John's hand welcoming William's hand.
"Thank you Mr. Gates, we don't know how we can repay your kindness and that of young Mr. Gates" John said in a trembling voice
"No need to think about it. I know Luna very well... She was a very good woman, one of the many women I expected to be my son-in-law... Your stoic haah yes" sounded full of regret William said, William let go of his hand and then walked closer to Jester who was still restless and bowed staring at the floor.
"I know your heart is very painful right now, son, but is this what Luna wants? falling and crying like that?!" somewhat snapping William said it, listening to William's snaps at Jester made Naomi turn to look at William's back in anger.
"Father!! let Jester cry!! his heart must be breaking right now, papa!! don't you have feelings?!!" naomi snapped with tears that still continued to drip, but William just fell silent staring at Jester.
"What... should I do... Now papa?" jester asked stammered and sounded so bitter, William sighed before answering Jester's question.
"You have to be a real man, son, get up and greet Luna with a smile" William said
"What... should I.. welcome? he... is gone... lifeless... not listening... not feeling touch..... what should I welcome....... from him?" terbata Jester said it, not long heard the sound of the gurney wheel and a few steps that were about to come out of the operating room.
When the door opened, Luna was already lying on top of the gurney with her face covered in a piece of cloth and her body covered in white cloth. When Selena, Naomi, Lisa, Grece and John approached Luna's body, they cried sobbing - sobbing to see Luna's body. Lisa and Selena are seen hugging Luna's body tightly, in the middle of the atmosphere of the day Jester stood up and walked closer to Luna's body. He opened the cover of Luna's face and found a smile line Luna's face was visible, her face was pale, and her eyes were tightly closed making Jester look angry.
"Why.... are you still smiling?!" ask Jester with a slight snatch
"Jester!!" naomi snapped alerting Jester, suddenly Jester clasped both of Luna's shoulders and shook her several times to wake Luna up.
"Wake up!!! Lied to!! You fucking liar!!! I will not accept this!! if you leave again, I will never forgive you!!! Wake up... Come back. don't go anywhere...I beg you.." Looking at the crazy Jester that made Luke and Harry act, they both pulled Jester away from Luna's body.
"Back to me!! open your eyes Luna!!!! don't leave me!! Your voice..Let me hear it once more.I beg to open your eyes.." Jester said it, his tears kept dripping down his face.
