In the Dutch era, Semarang, Central Java is often flooded considering the location of Semarang which is near the beach.
Besides, in the middle of the city also flows a large river.
The frequent arrival of this flood disaster certainly makes Semarang residents restless, especially when the rainy season arrives.
When the flood arrived, many property residents were washed away by the current.
To overcome the flooding, the Dutch Government took the initiative to build canals in the west and east of Semarang.
So that the two canals are known as the West Canal Flood and the East Canal Flood.
A canal is a moat that functions like a river.
Some of the river water that divides Semarang is flowed into smaller rivers.
The goal is so that large river water does not overflow into flooding when the rainy season arrives.
Thus began the construction of two canals, one canal in the western part of Semarang and another canal in the eastern part.
Problems arose in the construction of the canal in the west.
Workers found it difficult to build the western canal because when building the embankment, excavation of the land always landslides.
As a result, the construction of the western canal was not completed.
Feeling desperate, the workers then went to a smart person in Semarang named Ki Sanak.
The workers sought Ki Sanak's advice that the land in the western canal not landslide.
After hearing the complaints of the workers, Ki Sanak then ordered the workers to take the stones that were on the right and left of his house.
Then Ki Sanak ordered that the two stones be planted on one of the western canal embankments that were being done.
After saying thank you, the workers then took the stone on the right and left of Ki Sanak's house and begged for a leave of absence.
Upon arrival at the job site, the workers immediately carried out Ki Sanak's order to bury the two stones on one of the embankments.
Miraculously, not long after the ruins of the former embankment re-integrated.
While the parts of the embankment that originally collapsed again became intact.
Since then, the area has been known as Lemah Gempal.
