The Origin of Why the River Meanders - Kelok

The Brantas River meanders and the water never runs out. The upper Brantas river is where Malang then flows south to Blitar, turn to Kediri and the effect turns again to Surabaya. According to East Java folklore, why the river meanders and water never runs out is associated with snakes that ascend in the mountains. Here is the story:

In ancient times, various kinds of snakes were imprisoned in the mountains. Every year, all the snakes that ascend to the mountains will descend to the bottom of the sea to face the king of snakes. The snake king was called the dragon. They faced the serpent king so that bis, he drew knowledge from the serpent king in the form of life sciences, knowledge so that bis, a young immortal, had bus,a, able to transform into human beings and other sciences

The snakes facing the dragon king flocked winding down the mountain towards the bottom of the sea. The former road traversed by the snakes became a river. That is why the river meanders following the path of the snakes.

Outside the main route of the river through which the snakes pass, there are underage rivers. Why did it happen that way? Among the snakes are wayward snakes who want to precede other snakes by finding their own way to face the dragon. That is why the river besides meandering also has tributary branches.

The serpents who persevere in asceticism will be rewarded by the dragon. All knowledge possessed by the king of snakes will be given to the snakes who pass in his hermitage. Signs of snakes that pass in hermitage that has knowledge can bring heavy rain, thunder, earthquakes, flood and others. The path traversed by the snake that gets the reward of the snake king is usually accompanied by flood.

Because it will meet the king, the snakes will present their descendants who have become human as tribute. That is why in the event of a flood, many trees fell, houses collapsed and many dead people were washed away by the flood. The dead men were the offspring of the serpent offered to the king of the serpents as a tribute to knowledge.

The humans who died in the flood will be revived as snakes by the king of snakes. By dragon snakes, they would be given the ability to survive in the water and also be able to fly. They will be revived as large, legged, winged snakes, able to fly in space and crowned. Because they fly so familiar with the sun, they sweat so much. Their sweat water fell to the earth and became rainwater. Such is the story of the origin of why the river meanders. Of course this is just a fairy tale that we do not need to believe the truth.
