The Origin of Lake Toba

Once upon a time there lived a young man named Toba. He was an orphan. Everyday he worked in the fields. Sometimes he looks for fish in the river that is not far from the hut. The fish is usually used as a side dish and the rest is sold to the market.

One day Toba was fishing after coming home from the field. He really hopes to get a large fish that can be cooked immediately to be a side dish. Fill that hope. Before long he threw his fishing line into the river, his hooked eyes had been struck by the fish. How happy he was when he pulled the fishing line and found a big fish stuck in his fishing line.

For a moment Toba noticed the big fish he managed to lure it.” Strange fish.” His gum. His whole life had never seen such a fish. The color of the fish is yellowish and the scales are golden yellow. Looks glittered those scales when exposed to sunlight. When Toba released his hook eyes from the mouth of his catch fish, suddenly a miracle happened. The strange golden yellow scaly fish transformed into a beautiful woman.

Toba was astonished to find the miracle unfolding before his eyes. He just stood with his eyes round and his mouth gawking.

“Tuan.” Said the beautiful fish incarnation woman.”I am the curse of God for breaking his great prohibition. It was destined to me that I would change shape to resemble any creature that held or touched me. Since master has held me, then I also turned into a human like this Master.”

Samosir took the food and drink to the field. On the way, Samosir was hungry. Stopping the steps to the garden. He then ate the food that should be for his father. Not spent all the food but left a little. With little food and drink left, Samosir continued his journey to the fields. When he arrived at the farm, Samosir gave the food and drink to his father.

In a short time the surface of the ground was flooded. The water level continues to rise and tek how long later the valley where Toba lived has been flooded. Then a very large lake was formed in that place.

The inhabitants then named the lake Lake Toba. As for the small island in the middle of the lake Toba is called Samosir Island to remind the boy Toba.
