According to the story, Jaka Taruna wanted to edit Purbawati, the daughter of Duke Jayengrana.

Duke Jayengrana was duke of Surabaya.

But Jaka Taruna lost the fight against Prince Situbondo and also Jaka Jumput until finally turned into a statue.

Once Purbawati, the daughter of the Duke of Jayengrana was agitated to be proposed by Situbondo, a Madurese prince, the son of Duke Cakraningrat.

Putri Purbawati wanted to reject the proposal of Prince Situbondo because he had loved Jaka Taruna from the Duchy of Kediri.

But to reject Prince Sirubondo's proposal he felt bad considering his father's friendship with Prince Situbondo's father was very well established.

He was worried that there would be hostility between Surabaya and Madura.

Prince Situbondo sailed from Madura to Surabaya to propose to Purbawati.

Not long after, Prince Situbondo arrived in Surabaya.

He soon found the Purbawati.

The Duke of Jayengrana fully submitted the marriage decree to Purbawati.

Due to confusion, Purbawati finally gave a very heavy condition to Prince Situbondo if he wanted to interfere with it.

He gave the condition that Prince Situbondo open the forest in the famous Surabaya area is very haunted.

He reasoned, the forest was opened so that it could be a place to live for them and their descendants.

Although the conditions were very heavy, Prince Situbondo supported him.

He immediately entered into the haunted Surabaya forest and began to work to open the forest.

He said that he had long been in love with Purbawati.

Purbawati then asked Prince Jaka Taruna who he loved to join to open the forest as a condition to invite him.

Jaka Taruna immediately went to the forest of Surabaya to participate in opening it.

He opened the forest at a location close to the forest where Prince Situbondo.

When the two met, Prince Situbondo asked what he was doing in the forest.

Prince Jaka Taruna said that he was clearing the forest as a condition of marrying Purbawati.

Hearing Jaka Taruna's reply, Prince Situbondo was furious.

He immediately attacked Jaka Taruna.

The two then fought fiercely to exert all their respective powers.

It turns out that the power of Situbondo is far above the worship of Jaka Taruna.

Not long after Situbondo was able to hit Jaka Taruna until Jaka Taruna's body bounced far away.

Jaka Taruna's body was stuck on top of a tree.

Situbondo then left that place leaving Jata Taruna just like that.

Jaka Taruna shouted for help as he was unable to escape from the tree.

But the haunted forest is so rarely passed by humans that no one heard it.

Some time later there was a young man named Jaka Jumput heard the cry of Jaka Taruna.

He then approached Jaka Taruna and asked what had happened.

Jaka Taruna then told him the thing that happened to him.

He promised that if Jaka Jumput was able to defeat Situbondo, he would grant any request from Jaka Jumput.

Jaka Jumput expressed his willingness to defeat Situbondo.

He immediately looked for Situbondo to challenge the duel.

After he met Situbondo, he immediately challenged the duel.

Situbondo felt angry because he was challenged by a duel by someone he just knew.

The two of them immediately fought, exerting all their powers, while Jaka Taruna just watched from a distance.

After a long battle, Situbondo began to look exhausted.

It turns out that Jaka Jumput is a tough young man and sakti mandraguna.

Situbondo finally felt unable to fight Jaka Jumput.

He then fled to the eastern region of the Duchy of Surabaya.

The region was later named Situbondo, after Prince Situbondo.

Seeing Prince Situbondo lose, Prince Jaka Taruna immediately went to meet Duke Jayengrana and Purbawati.

He said that Situbondo had lost the fight and ran east.

“Uncle Duke, Servant has successfully defeated Prince Situbondo. He has fled to the east and will not return. Therefore allow me to edit Purbawati.” said Prince Jaka Taruna.

But not long later came Jaka Jumput in the Duchy of Surabaya to meet Prince Jaka Taruna.

Upon learning that Prince Jaka Taruna claimed to have defeated Prince Situbondo, Jaka Jumput was furious.

He immediately met Duke Jayengrana and said that Prince Jaka Taruna had lied.

“Sorry for the carelessness of the servant, Duke Jayengrana. Prince Jaka Taruna has lied to Kanjeng Adipati. Slave has defeated Prince Situbondo, not Jaka Taruna.” Jaka Jumput said.

Prince Jaka Taruna is angry with the recognition of Jaka Jumput.

He denied lying to the Duke of Jayengrana.

“Don't believe he's Kanjeng Duke. I am the one who defeated Prince Situbondo. Don't trust new people.” said Prince Jaka Taruna.

The Duke of Jayengrana was aghast at Jaka Jumput's recognition.

He was confused by this situation.

He then asked for evidence to Jaka Taruna and Jaka Jumput that they had defeated Prince Situbondo.

“If indeed one of you has really defeated Prince Situbondo, what is the proof?” ask Duke Jayengrana.

Jaka Jumput then took out a kris belonging to Prince Situbondo, then handed it to the Duke of Jayengrana.

“This is a keris belonging to Prince Situbondo, Kanjeng Adipati. This is proof that the servant has defeated Situbondo, not Jaka Taruna.” said Jaka Jumput. While Jaka Taruna does not have any evidence. He just fell silent.

“It is true that this is a keris belonging to Prince Situbondo.” said the Duke of Jayengrana. “What kind of proof do you have, Jaka Taruna?” ask the Duke to Jaka Taruna.

He felt embarrassed because his lies were exposed by the arrival of Jaka Jumput.

Because he felt unacceptable, he then challenged Jaka Jumput to a duel.

“Why does Kanjeng trust a new person? I challenged Jaka Jumput to a duel. We prove who is stronger between the two of us.”

“Alright, whosoever of you wins the fight then he may challenge my daughter, Purbawati.” said the Duke of Jayengrana.

Prince Jaka Taruna then dueled with Jaka Jumput.

Both of them exerted their own devotion. Jaka Taruna used his navel kris while Jaka Jumput used a whip weapon which he named Kyai Gembolo Geni.

At first the fight was balanced but gradually Jaka Taruna seemed unable to compensate for the magic of Jaka Jumput.

Until finally the whip Jaka Jumput hit his body, making Prince Jaka Taruna fall and lay on the ground helpless.

“Jaka Taruna, why do you dare to lie to me. I am disappointed with you.” said Duke Jayerngrana.

Prince Jaka Taruna just quietly lying on the ground. His body was weak after the fight. He was also very embarrassed.

“Why did you not answer my question, O Jaka Taruna? Why are you now just silent like a statue?” Duke Jayengrana was irritated.

Not long after an oddity occurred, the body of Prince Jaka Taruna turned into a statue.

The words of Duke Jayengrana became a curse.

Later, the statue of Prince Jaka Taruna was named Joko Dolog.
