Don't Want to Split
Chapter 48 - Stay With Me Forever

Stay with Me Forever

Ezra continued to pull Zefanya's hand out of the mansion and only stopped for a moment to meet Joan and ask her to look after the twins. In Zephaniah's heart he wanted to warn Ezra not to be too hopeful, for it must have hurt more to know that Benjamin wasn't lying. But it was useless, her husband was the type of man who did not give up easily and he would not stop before getting answers.

From his wide, fast footsteps, Zefanya could feel how rushed Ezra was. He tried to follow the speed of Ezra's steps even though he was a little shaken.

"Ups! I'm sorry, Aunty." said Ezra in surprise.

They stopped for a moment because they almost hit Aunty Laura who had just got out of the car and was about to enter the mansion.

"Oh, Ezra, Zie, how is Louisa? Is it better?" he asked while stroking d-a-d-a in surprise. Her niece and husband seemed to be walking in a hurry.

"Please let Aunty relax here. Just tell the waiter whatever Aunty wants, they'll get it ready." Sahut Ezra at a glance.

He opened the car door for Zefanya, his then opened the door for Zefanya without giving Zefanya a chance to just talk to her aunt.

"Sorry, Aunty. There are important things we have to do at the moment. We'll talk later." said Zefanya felt bad for her Mama's twin brother.

As soon as the door was closed Ezra immediately stepped on the accelerator inside and drove his car to the rectory which was still one location with the hospital where Benjamin was treated on the last days her life.

From the rearview mirror, Zefanya could see the shocked look on Aunty Laura's face. Never so far has Ezra driven with ugal - this kind of ugalan, let alone still at the location of the mansion. The man next to him they know as a man who has stable emotions and is clear-minded, only things related to Zefanya that can make him upset.

Throughout the journey Ezra said nothing, his focus was only on the streets and the places he went. Zefanya observed the tense look on Ezra's face, her face depicting a stern rejection of the harsh reality she had just heard.

A little bit of Ezra's attitude begins to affect Zefanya. From the time Zephaniah was a teenager, he showed his admiration for Ezra openly, and all that time his mother said nothing to him. Never even forbade her from falling in love with Ezra. There must be an explanation for Benjamin Halley's confession.

The journey felt even more gripping when they were almost arrived at a church complex and hospital. Ezra was busy struggling with his own thoughts, while Zephaniah chose to pray earnestly, may God give them a chance to be together.

"Sorry, Mr. Halley. Father Markus is in the hospital" the guard said.

"Do you know what time he comes home?" ask Ezra impatiently.

"Pastur only says goodbye if someone asks to be prayed for because one of his family members is critical."

Zefanya did not know to be relieved or sad. At least he can delay the certainty of bad news even if only overnight. Different from Zephaniah, next to him Ezra rubbed his face with a palm, frustrated.

"We'll wait in the car, sir." breaks up Ezra. Free to go home, he would definitely not be able to sleep well tonight.

Guards nodded their heads as Ezra walked back to his parked car in a parking lot provided by the foundation.

"Ezra?"

"Hm?"

"Would we go home first?"

Ezra doesn't respond, Zefanya's brain-twisting. There was something that still stuck in his heart that would of course offend Ezra.

"May I stay at the hotel tonight?" zefanya asked doubtfully.

"No! You will stay with me forever. Not only do we need to ask the priest but we also have to do a DNA test to determine if we are still one father or not because that's the most appropriate way to prove my father's words."

"Why can't it?"

"I'm worried... "

"I won't touch you until the DNA test results come out, if that's what you're worried about" Ezra said quickly.

"But, Ez... Your father's words are so convincing."

"But I've never heard my father say anything to me about our relationship. The day I beat up my sister for defending you, that day I confessed that I was in love with you."

"What did your father say?"

"He didn't react to anything. If it is true that you are my sister, she should have directly banned me right then and there. What about your own mother?" Ezra asked Zephaniah.

Zefanya. "Mama? Mama never commented anything when I said that my dream was to be Miss Ezra Halley." His expression seemed to be recalling - recalling the events in his past. At that time Zefanya's mother just smiled and gently rubbed her hair.

"Well! If we were brothers. Why didn't they prevent it first?"

"This is a scandal, Ezra. No one wants their ugliness to be dismantled in public. Moreover, your father is a famous businessman in this city."

Zefanya paused for a moment, he began to be provoked to revisit the events they had been through. "But we marry hide - hide from our parents. They might be looking for the right time to say it. Before they could tell, we were officially married."

"Try to remember - remember again. We married quietly just because my father wanted you to graduate and work first. But you don't want to get away from me. Whenever you get a chance, you always stay in the mansion. That's not good, Zie. So, I chose to marry you as soon as possible."

"Yes. And, according to your calculations your father would not have the heart to separate a couple who are officially married."

"Absolutely. All I know is that my father wouldn't let me fall into sin. If you were my brother, my father would have discussed the matter with me."

A hope was raised in Zefanya's heart, his feelings a little bounced while listening to Ezra's analysis. It is true that, in some cases, people who are near death often gibber.

"But there is one fact that I just remembered." said Ezra again.

"What's? Tell me quickly!"

This time his curiosity soared. Ezra's passion to stay together makes Zefanya also want to immediately solve the problems they are facing.

"If I'm to be honest, actually the possibility of my father turning away from my mother is huge. My mother was sick and seemed to pay less attention to my father."

Zefanya's shoulder was broken, just now she was happy because there was a possibility of Benjamin's speech was wrong. But the continuation of Ezra's words frightened Zefanya.

When the worry was clearly drawn on his wife's face, Ezra again reassured.

"After hearing your story and examining it all, I was more and more convinced that my father was just rummaging and you just happened to be there."

"Are you trying to cheer me up, Ez?"

Ezra. "There's a reasonable possibility other than what I said?"

Zefanya. The more he thought about Ezra's words, the more he wanted to believe Ezra's belief that his father-in-law was just ragging.
