Can't Trust Him
"If you're sure this isn't a lie, do you release me to investigate?"
"Yes." replied Zefanya steady.
"Oh my God!" erang Ezra with an expression like a person in pain.
Zephaniah's approval to investigate Mr. Benjamin's statement showed that his wife was not lying. Once again Ezra stared fixedly into Zephaniah's eyes hoping to find a lie in there. This time he was really expecting Zefanya to lie. Unfortunately hope is hope. There was not the slightest doubt in the beautiful eyes of his wife, but what was there was a deep pain.
Zefanya's tears are flowing. "Over this time, I didn't mean to lie. I saved everything because it's gonna hurt you so much, Ez. My hope is that disappearing will break your heart, hate you, forget me and find a new love and be happy."
Ezra was silent and listened to Zephaniah's story with an equally grievous heart. Trying to understand word by word even though none of it got into his senses.
"You don't want to accept this reality. So when the accident happened, your memory refused to avoid your heartache. Is that what happened to you?" lirih Ezra is poignant.
She grabbed onto Zefanya's tiny body and held it tightly. This wife of his had tried to sacrifice for his sake, bearing the secret alone.
"Ma Moitie, .. Why do you keep it to yourself? You can complain to me as you have - already. Then we'll face it together."
Ezra's voice was slightly choked. His brain continued to work through each of Zefanya's stories and tried to find gaps in them. His heart was trying to accept the harsh reality he had just heard. They both hugged each other, just as stiffened up in order to strengthen each other.
For a long time, they were in the same position without saying anything. Ezra's hand rubbed the tears that fell on Zephaniah's cheek. Which Zefanya responded with a gentle swab on Ezra's arm that seemed to be trying hard to think clearly. Several times Ezra was seen rubbing his hair and exhaling violently.
"Zie's... " Ezra's voice sounded so heavy and deep, making anyone who sounded gloomy. "I believe you're not lying. But I can't accept this fact. At least, until I can prove that what you're saying is true."
"I was like you at first, Ez. But the one who said was your own father. He has no motive whatsoever to separate us."
"I will question the witnesses who are there. The doctors and nurses are there, everybody's gonna remember who Benjamin Halley is."
Ezra re-mas Zefanya's shoulder. "Now we go to the hospital. I don't want to wait anymore."
Ezra's unanimous determination further shrinks Zefanya's guts, he is unable to hear the harsh reality once again from the doctor. More unable to say goodbye to Ezra.
"Why doesn't Ezra understand either? All I want is to disappear without a farewell for the last time, because I don't want to part with him." Zefanya said in her heart.
"I, .. I want to see the twins before I leave. How's it?" ask Zephanya to buy time. Although Zefanya's little heart said that it was impossible for Ezra to obey his wishes this time.
"No, Zie. We're leaving now. Joan will take good care of them."
Zefanya sighed, Ezra rejected her request exactly as she expected. With a heavy heart Zefanya nodded and rose to her feet to prepare - ready. But Ezra's hand restrained her until she accidentally sat on Ezra's lap.
Equally knowing the bitter reality, inevitably they together refrain from touching each other. No matter how much they want to be together, there are norms and religions that they cannot ignore.
"Gurgh!" Raung Ezra frustrated.
The chief of Halley Corp groaned loudly while standing, with his hands re-m-as his hair hard - hard. Zefanya held back, standing awkwardly in place. Prepare for what Ezra will do after this. His hands began to tremble, his desire to escape from Ezra was immense but Ezra's pitiful expression made his legs feel heavy to step on.
The dashing figure before him was fragile, his eyes staring at Zefanya without blinking.
"Can you lie to me this time, Zie? Promise me that after coming home from the hospital we can still love each other as much as before all this happened." please Ezra in a hoarse voice full of emotion.
Ezra then cleared his throat. "Perple and night I asked what caused you to disappear. A year I waited for you to come back to this house but it wasn't what I thought it was. Hearing all this, it felt like I was dreaming."
"I know, Ez. I also feel what you feel right now. At that time, if it wasn't for the twins in my stomach, I probably wouldn't have been able to survive."
"Stop! Don't talk like that, Zie. I'm sure there's something wrong with your story."
"But I'm not lying." Zefanya said offended.
"Not lying but misunderstanding my father's words. Did you know that people who have approached a-j-a-l could be raving? How about we also meet the priest who prayed for him the last time?"
"For what?"
"Who knows my father told me a story or confessed a sin one last time. I'm not just gonna give up on the problems that have befallen our marriage. There must be a reasonable explanation for all this."
"You mean you want to force the priest to tell the confession?"
"I'll ask the priest and he'll have to answer. The information from her had a profound effect on the survival of our marriage, Zie."
"But it's against a priest's oath, Ez."
"So he better see a family destroyed because of the uncertainty of this information?" According to Zephaniah's understanding, every confession of a person's sin must be kept secret by a priest. They are strictly forbidden to provide the slightest information about the contents of the confession, even to the state apparatus. But Ezra was already indifferent to anything, his hand grabbed Zefanya's waist and hugged her tightly. Not wanting to dissolve in Ezra's comfort, Zephaniah rebelled.
"Just for a second, Zie. Leave it like this first." orders Ezra while immersing his face into Zephaniah's hair. He inhaled deeply - in the scent of his wife's shampoo, gathering strength. Several times Ezra took a breath and exhaled, then said.
"We're going to clear this up, go to the people we need to meet and take the actions we need to take" Ezra said.
Then Ezra put his hand under Zephaniah's elbow and pulled him out of the room without giving the woman a chance to change clothes.
