A Will Eternal – Chapter 524
Chapter 524: Taking Command of the 3rd Corps
"Great general ?!" As the news spread back in the Starry Sky Polarity Sect, people were at first startled, and then quickly drowned in astonishment. Big Fatty Zhang had long managed to form a Will Core and had been accepted as an apprentice by the hallmaster of the Demon Slayers hall. He was in the middle of a cultivation session when the news came in, and was immediately enthusiastic.
"Good work, Xiaochun !!"
Meanwhile, back at the Great Wall, five legions were in an uproar. Previously, they had heard of Bai Xiaochun's request, but had not seen any confirmation that a promotion had been given. But then, a moment later, a message was sent that indicated that Bai Xiaochun had indeed become a great general !!
Bai Xiaochun was beside himself with joy when he saw his identity medal, and the word "acting" vanished from the front of his rank of great general. Very pleased with himself, he laughed loudly and said, "Since today, Bai Xiaochun is a great general !!"
Chen Hetian, Bai Lin, and all the other generals were shocked. After exchanging glances, a strange expression appeared on Bai Lin's face, and Chen Hetian stared wryly at the true spirit in the big eyes.
Clearly, the promotion was the actual spirit's way of thanking Bai Xiaochun. After all, such a large number of vindictive souls would be very useful to actual spirits.
In the end, Chen Hetian sighed and decided not to worry about this matter more than necessary.
"Bai Lin," he said, "given that Bai Xiaochun is a Leather Flayer, why don't you arrange for one of your current major generals to retire …." Then, he left, shaking his head all the way.
Seven days passed quickly. The entire time, Great Wall City was filled with talk of Bai Xiaochun giving up his soul, and his promotion to the great general. In fact, such a story will continue to persist for more than seven days.
Although many cultivators were envious of what had happened, it also sparked hope in their hearts. Suddenly, they felt much more anticipating the possibility of their own future.
Bai Xiaochun was very famous at this moment. Although his name was not necessarily known among everyone in the three great cities in the Great Wall region, everyone in a position of power had heard of him.
Something else happened during the seven days that passed. The main general of the 3rd Corps, of which Bai Xiaochun's regiment was a part, was convinced by Bai Lin to return to the Starry Sky Polarity Sect.
The great general was not angry with Bai Xiaochun, but rather quite grateful. He had served at the Great Wall for many years, and after returning to the sect, would become an elder in the Steel Vein Hall. He would also be generously compensated by the sect for all the battle credits he had accumulated.
Although he would miss the Great Wall in some ways, returning to the sect was actually the best option for him. Usually, great generals were important people so they could not leave the Great Wall whenever they wanted. In fact, the other great generals were actually a little envious.
Before leaving, he visited Bai Xiaochun to thank him and also transferred his personal staff to Bai Xiaochun to utilize. Bai Xiaochun was deeply moved by the man's sincerity, and was guaranteed repeatedly that he would treat the staff very fairly.
A few days after the old man left the Great Wall, Bai Xiaochun's official commission was dropped. He was now the main general of the 3rd Corps of Leather Flayers!
On the day the commission came down, Bai Xiaochun trembled with excitement, and looked just as proud as a rooster as he wore his fearsome and glittering girdle armor. The armor had a built-in spell formation which, upon activation, instantly caused his entire person to blur and distort, as if a powerful and shocking energy started to accumulate.
His hair even flew around him wildly for a moment before his face became clear again. With that, he took out a copper mirror to examine himself.
After preening for quite a while, he chuckled and said, “What do you say, magic mirror? How do I look?"
Nightcrypt's Imposter Soul appeared inside the mirror, holding his breath as he put a shocked expression onto his face.
Of course, Bai Xiaochun was overjoyed by his reply.
After a long time had passed, the Nightcrypt impostor seemed to recover from his shock, and then began to praise Bai Xiaochun in an extremely exaggerated manner.
"Paradise! Sir, are you really the impressive, handsome, carefree, and perfect Bai Xiaochun? Impossible! The exalted Bai Xiaochun, who in my heart was a figure that shone brighter than the sun itself, was clearly a colonel! ”
Imposter Nightcrypt rolled his eyes inward, well aware that if he did as Bai Xiaochun had asked, and stopped flattering him, then Bai Xiaochun would punish him.
"I don't like chocolate either" said the con man Nightcrypt. "Nobody in the world does that!" Inwardly, he felt disgusted, but did not show that. Instead, he continued to flatter Bai Xiaochun for the time it took for the incense to burn before actually going around to answer the initial question.
“Armor was made especially for you, wasn't it? Very fitting! Although, I must say that the reason it looks so scary is not because of the armor itself, but because of how you wear it! ” Hearing the boot-licking copycat Nightcrypt was one of Bai Xiaochun's favorite pastimes, and he really admired his way with words. Finally, he cleared his throat, threw some medicinal pills into the copper mirror, and then sadly walked out of his residence.
Outside, the 10,000 cultivators of the 3rd Corps all stood in attention. As soon as Bai Xiaochun appeared, Zhao Long stepped forward and shouted, "3rd Corps, hand salute!"
As soon as those words came out of Zhao Long's mouth, the 10,000 cultivators clasped their hands and bowed deeply. "Greetings, Major General!"
As they shouted their greetings, their words echoed as loud as lightning.
Seeing the 10,000 people marching in front of him caused Bai Xiaochun to sigh deeply and rethink how he came to Great Wall City alone, and had risen from lieutenant to captain, and then colonel. Now, here he was at the top, a great general.
Just the thought of how much work he had done to become a great general made him sigh endlessly.
Finally, he waved his hand and said, "Alright, let's take a little walk."
With that, the regiment of thousands of people from before stepped forward and fell into the ranks around him to act as his personal bodyguard. At the same time, the ten colonels under his command also stepped forward.
As they flew into the air, the rest of the corps spread out to clear the path and make sure no one got too close.
Bai Xiaochun felt so happy to be so amazing, and was so happy that all of his hard work paid off. He even made sure to proceed slowly so that everyone could see him, and also took the time to chat with his colonels. Their careful way of having a conversation with him made him very happy.
Quite a number of people noticed that he was parading around the city. A while ago, he had done the same with a colonel, but this time, he was a great general.
The news that Bai Xiaochun had been assigned as the main general of the 3rd Corps of Skin Flayers was big news in the Wildlands. Intelligence about him is actually very important in general there. Whether it was his exploding pill furnace or the Convergence Soul Pill, everything he did seemed to hurt them.
When the news reached the Red-Dust Mistress in her command tent, she looked at the intelligence report before smashing the jade slip.
"So that's what happened yesterday" he said. "Bai Xiaochun gave up his soul to earn battle credits, which then led to him being promoted to a great general." Kneeling before him was a necromancer in a gray robe, whose fluctuations of his cultivation base placed him at the Nascent Soul level.
"According to information from our spies," he said, "that's what happened. More specifically, Bai Xiaochun gave up over 1,000,000,000 lives …. " Even the necromancer could hardly believe the number he had just uttered out loud.
"1.000.000.000 …." Madam Red-Dust muttered, her eyes flickering with a cold light. After a while, he waved his hand. “Send the order to put Bai Xiaochun in 5th place in the Execution List. Increase the bounty on his head to two spirit beasts!
"Yes Mom!" the necromancer said with a grim nod in his head. With that, he left.
Before long, word spread in the Great Wall City that Bai Xiaochun was now at the 5th position in the Wildlands Execution List, and that the reward for killing him had increased to two god beast souls. When Bai Xiaochun heard the news, he was quite surprised.
"How cruel they are ..." he thought. He could hardly believe that the Wildlands hated him so much that they were willing to pay two beasts souls to watch him die.
