A Will Eternal – Chapter 464
Chapter 464: Giants Bones
Since everyone was not talking, or whispering, Bai Xiaochun decided that it was best to follow the ancient wisdom of imitating the locals. Therefore, he tried to look as cold and aloof as possible, even a little spooky, all in the hope of mingling with the crowd.
Before long, things did not seem as strange as before. Bai Xiaochun felt like he was like everyone else, and immediately walked over happily. After a bit of time passed, he stopped in his place and looked at one of the nearby shops.
"Soul Pavilion Scattered?" Upon seeing the name of the store, he peered inside, and saw that the walls were stacked with strange-looking bottles. There were also some cultivators inside looking around at the bottle.
Curious, Bai Xiaochun turned around, headed to the shop, and picked up the bottle to look at. As soon as he saw what was inside, his eyes widened.
The bottle contained a fog that was originally calm and quiet. However, as soon as he took a close look, the fog shrank into the shape of a face staring intently at him.
It was the face of a young woman, who violently turned into a ferocious expression. A moment after it formed, it crashed into the side of the bottle as if it was trying to get at Bai Xiaochun! That face was nothing but a vengeful soul!
It happened without any warning at all, and Bai Xiaochun was completely unprepared for such a reaction, so he could not help but let out a jolt of surprise. Almost immediately, the surrounding cultivators looked at him with wrinkles on their faces. Simultaneously, all the other bottles in the shop started to tremble and tremble as the mist inside turned into a face that looked at Bai Xiaochun with bulging eyes.
Seeing so many vengeful souls staring at him caused Bai Xiaochun's scalp to wriggle in fear. He could also hear strange sounds that resembled a mixture of laughter and crying.
There were even some sounds that seemed to sing. The sounds whirled and mixed into one, seemingly dull all the way to his soul.
"Take me off!"
"Hey, brother, remember me …? We know each other!"
"I've eaten a lot of kids like you all year!"
"Hahaha, bwahahaha …!"
The voices grew louder and louder until they echoed in Bai Xiaochun's mind like thunder. At that moment, a cold light appeared in his eyes, and a cold qi began to revolve within him. His right hand flickered with a movement of incantations, and he released the Death Hex into his own chest.
Instantly, all the sounds disappeared, and everything returned to normal. The vindictive souls in the bottle were still staring at him, but it seemed, they could sense that they were unable to affect his mind, so they looked away and began to turn back into a ball of fog.
The other cultivators in the shop also started to turn around and return to look at the bottles.
Bai Xiaochun took a deep breath and looked around, his gaze finally stopping at a man in the corner of the shop. He was old, and was wearing a gray robe that matched his hair color. Hands clasped behind his back, he walked forward and smiled at Bai Xiaochun.
"You're the new guy here?" he asked slowly.
Bai Xiaochun nodded, slightly depressed as he realized that he was quite sure he now knew why the people here did not like to talk much.
“In the City of the World and the land beyond, you must keep your voice from becoming entangled by vengeful souls. The best thing to do is to transmit your voice with divine sense.
“There are far, far too many vengeful souls out there. Some of them you can see with your eyes, and some you can't. What you see in these bottles is nothing but the souls of the dead. You see, both inside and outside the Great Wall, the soul is the most precious resource. Be it to cultivate, concoct medicines, or create magical objects, you must use a soul. " With another smile and nod, the old man turned around and walked away.
Bai Xiaochun thanked him, and then took a little more time to look around at the soul. What he discovered was that Foundation Establishment level souls were the cheapest and most abundant, with Core Formation souls becoming more expensive. He did not see any belonging to a Nascent Soul expert.
Finally, Bai Xiaochun left and melted back into the crowd. This time, he was even more cautious than before as he walked along the moonlit path. Finally, he reached another shop that made him stop and stare.
Inside that store, they were selling .. savages!
The wild men on display were packed into coffins, and there were seal marks on them so that they could not move. There were both men and women, and each of them had extremely impressive fleshly bodies.
When Bai Xiaochun approached, he was noticed by one of the salesmen, a man with the cultivation base of the Establishment Foundation and a flushed face. Upon seeing Bai Xiaochun from top to bottom, he clasped his hands respectfully and quietly said, "Senior, our Wildlander's servant may not be the best available in the World City, either, but they must be top-of-the-line."
Bai Xiaochun stared curiously at the savages, and was surprised to find that they had teeth as sharp as wild beasts.
"You know," continued the seller, "even down to their teeth and bones, their fleshly bodies are very strong, making them excellent servants. Moreover, they have been sealed with limited spells, so you can control their life or death with a single thought. "
"They don't look at all like Chen Manyao …." Bai Xiaochun thought curiously. He was considering purchasing one, but in the World City, the only currency he received were spirit stones and battle credits. Points are totally useless.
"They are very expensive ..." he thought.
Given how many years the salesman had worked here, he could tell what Bai Xiaochun was thinking. Chuckling softly, he said, “Senior, I think you are relatively new to World City. Let me explain: these savages are actually not very expensive at all. Outside the Great Wall, in the cities inhabited by savages themselves, the planters captured by the Foundation Establishment sold at a price ten times greater than savages of the same cultivation level! ”
"What?" Bai Xiaochun said, a look of shock appeared on his face. "Wild people sell cultivators out there?"
"Of course!" the seller replied coldly. “For savages, cultivators from within the Great Wall are the most nutritious type of food available. They had no spiritual energy out there, and within every cultivator there was a spiritual sea. To them, cultivators ... were like living spirit stones! "
Bai Xiaochun's scalp was pierced with fear. Just the thought of being caught by the savages outside the Great Wall, and then being sucked dry like spirit stones, made him tremble inside and out.
"This place is too dangerous ..." he thought. Seeming extremely displeased, he left the shop, and instead of exploring the city further, returned to the inn.
Before long, dawn arrived, and Zhao Tianjiao came looking for Bai Xiaochun. It was time to leave the World City and head to the Great Wall itself.
They're moving slower than before. The spiritual energy is getting weaker, making the journey heavier, and increasing the amount of time it takes to recover from the activity. Furthermore, this journey was clearly more dangerous than the previous one.
The lands had completely lost their black tinge, and were almost completely purple in color, as if they had been completely soaked by blood. It was the same as the water in the river. It was a truly shocking sight for Bai Xiaochun and the others in the group.
There were mountains here and there, all bare vegetation, as well as the occasional abandoned village. There were also hordes of vengeful souls flying, which usually had at least a few dozen that were as strong as Core Formation levels.
Thankfully, vengeful souls are not very aggressive. In general, they just fly without stopping. Even so, Zhao Tianjiao and the others continued to watch over them, and clearly, Bai Xiaochun was even more cautious.
He kept his mouth shut tightly, refusing to peek. Only after those vengeful souls were completely invisible did he sigh in relief.
As they moved forward, they rarely saw the other cultivators. There were almost no signs of life in this barren wasteland, and even the flora and fauna were few and far between, and were the type to keep everyone on their toes.
Every plant or tree they encountered looked even stranger than the last, and more ferocious.
Bai Xiaochun even saw one large tree that actually ran along the ground while chasing after the nine-meter-tall black thorny leopard. After capturing the creature, the tree devoured it alive.
At one point, a huge hand of undead shot out from the ravine to grab the passing black eagle, which was crushed into mush as it extracted its blood….
The squishing sound was enough to make one's heart beat in shock!
