A Will Eternal – Chapter 1239

Chapter 1239: That Year

Bai Xiaochun felt like he was being pushed out of a deep sleep. He opened his eyes, and it was as if his soul had lost access to all of his previous memories. He did not know who he was, and only knew that he was feeling very cold ….

White and smooth snowflakes fell from above, completely covering the sky, and also covering the ground, even making the distant mountains a pale white color.

Bai Xiaochun found himself in a forest of withered trees. In fact, the trees were covered with so much snow that many of their branches had been broken. The scattered branches that remained intact looked like black spots within the wider white world.

"Don't fall asleep, Little Chen," said someone. "Remain awake …."

Bai Xiaochun felt like he was dreaming, except he did not remember what the dream was. Now that he woke up, everything had become a blur.

All he knew was that it was cold, so cold that he felt like he was going to freeze. Perhaps a chill had sealed his memory.

But then ...he felt himself pushed a few times, and a face appeared in front of him, white from the snow.

It was a young boy, about thirteen or fourteen years old. He was thin, and apparently injured, because his clothes were torn and stained with blood. He looked very weak, but there was something in his eyes that was truly unforgettable. They glittered like stars, but at the same time, contained an atrocity that belied his young age. However, when he looked at Bai Xiaochun, the cruelty vanished, to be replaced with warmth and love.

"Brothers…." Bai Xiaochun muttered, his lips twitching. Yes, his memory tells him that this is indeed .. his older brother, the bloody brother with whom he shares his father and mother!

Even saying a single word, brother, caused a wave of fatigue to pass him by. He was almost unsure of being able to face the biting wind, a wild wind that filled him with gloom and destruction.

Obviously it was the end of winter, especially with snowflakes falling. However, when he looked up at the sky, he realized that there were also insects flying high in the sky!

Apparently, their presence inside the blizzard was what caused the famine that gripped the ground. There were other people in the area, the refugees who were swarming against the wind, their skinny skeletons and lethargic expressions making it hard to know if they were still alive ….

They were all afraid of the cold, and yet, it seemed that no one was willing to light a fire. Not because they don't want to, but because they don't dare …. When Bai Xiaochun saw the locusts in the snowstorm, he could immediately tell that they were unique in more ways than one. Not only could they survive in this icy weather, but it was also clear that the flames would catch their attention. And in the middle of winter, when food is scarce, they will eat whatever they can find.

The weight of all these thoughts seemed to weaken him, to the point where he could barely raise his hand. However, he somehow managed to do that, and when he did, he saw the hand of a seven or eight-year-old. His hand fell down, and he struggled to open his eyes …

The young man who spoke a moment ago looked relieved to see Bai Xiaochun wake up. However, he could also see how weak he was, and how he had trouble keeping his eyes open. He pushed her anxiously a few more times, clearly grieving at the fact that his sister was having a hard time surviving. The problem was hunger; only if he could find food to eat would his brother have the strength to continue living.

"Wait there a little longer, Little Chen. I'll get some food for you. Just wait, I'll be right back! ” Resilience appeared in the young man's eyes, and when he turned from his sister, cruelty returned to his face. Looking like a lone wolf, he walked into the forest.

He was clearly in a weakened state, but it seemed, the current crisis Bai Xiaochun had opened up a shocking toughness in him. Ignoring his wounds and weaknesses, he disappeared into the trees.

Bai Xiaochun knew that the only reason he was alive was his brother's strength. After falling ill, his brother took care of him and even carried him on his way. As the adults begin to fight each other for food, his brother has developed an atrocity that even they fear.

His brother gave him most of the food. Even when his brother's stomach growled from hunger, he pretended to be full, and would say, “I'm your older brother, right? Here, eat. "

Thus, Bai Xiaochun remained alive. He remembered that his name was Zhou Chen, and his elder brother was Zhou Fan. And he was also convinced that, without the dead weight being himself, his cruel brother would definitely be much better off in this chaotic world …. [1]

Unfortunately, regardless of how his brother treated him, his illness had weakened him to the point that he could not survive any longer.

"Without me, my brother would have had a much better life ..." she thought. Finally, he closed his eyes and allowed the snowflakes to start covering him, the flames of his life force started flashing out. However, even when it was about to happen, a powerful force pushed the snow away, even spreading white locusts in the area. At the same time, an old man descended from above, wearing a Daoist robe, an unsightly expression on his face.

As soon as the refugees in the area saw the old man, they kowtowed, trembling. They opened their mouths as if begging for his help, but even as they did, locusts began to crawl out from within them….

None of them had the strength to shout because they were just waiting to die.

The old man looked at all the refugees already infected by the parasitic grasshopper, and a ray of mercy appeared in his eyes. Unfortunately, there was nothing he could do about this situation. Waving his hand, he removed the tormented refugees from their misery.

Clearly in a terrible mood, the old man turned to leave, that was when he noticed Bai Xiaochun.

"Dee?" he murmured, stopped in place and took a closer look. A moment later, his eyes shone in disbelief. "Dao Body?"

Walking up to Bai Xiaochun, he waved his hand, causing warmth to enter him which stabilized the flames from his life force.

As he took a closer look at Bai Xiaochun, his eyes began to shine brighter. Throwing his head back, he burst into laughter before picking up the unconscious Bai Xiaochun and flying into the air with him….

After enough time had passed to burn the incense, the skinny Zhou Fan staggered backwards. Snow piled up on his shoulders and head, and every step he took drops of blood in the snow.

He had some new wounds on his face, and he was bleeding from his stomach. He was in very bad shape, however, his eyes were flashing with excitement. Tucked in the folds of his clothes was steamed bread, soaked by blood, that he had risked his life to rob from others.

"Little Chen! I found some food for— ”Before he finished speaking, his face fell when he saw all the corpses in the area. Looking around anxiously, he rushed to where he left Bai Xiaochun, only to find no one there. That, and the sight of all the locusts devouring the corpses nearby, made his heart flutter.

"Little Chen!" he wailed. "Little Chen !!"

He lost his only relative. He has lost everything. Shaking, he continued searching in vain. In the end, she fell to where her sister lay, held onto the soaked bread, and began to cry.

"Small Chen …." In his desperation, he did not realize that the scent of blood had attracted the horde of white locusts, which descended from the sky and swarmed over him.

There are clues here that seem to be quite obvious in Chinese, but still leave a lot of room for speculation. Remember a few chapters ago when Bai Xiaochun had a vision in the hourglass world, and heard a Master talking to two disciples? I translated those apprentice Daoist names as World Daoist and Mortal Renegade. In Chinese, those Daoist names were Dao Chen and Ni Fan. The brothers in this chapter are Zhou Chen and Zhou Fan. His final character was the same, implying that the brothers in this chapter had something to do with Daoist World and Renegade Mortal.
