The Strongest Man in the Universe

The Strongest Man in the Universe
Chapter 38

It was already dark by the time David arrived at River City. He would have arrived much earlier if he had not been restrained on the road. Tired, she returned to the South River International Residence and opened the door of her house, only to see Pearl with reddened eyes about to leave.

“Hah? Miss Pearl? What's wrong? Are you going out?”

Then he saw people standing behind Pearl. “Who are they?”

Pearl felt her chest tight when she saw David. ‘Didn't he come home for the holidays? Why did he come back so soon? And now is not the right time either.'

"I'm sorry, Mr. Lidell. These people are members of my family. They came to visit me from home, so I thought I'd bring them here to stop by. I was just about to drive them away.” Pearl answered nervously.

He was afraid David would get angry. Anyone would be outraged knowing that random people had come to their home worth four hundred million dollars the moment they came out.

“Where are you guys going these nights? There are many rooms here, Why not just stay?” ask David.

Pearl had been overthinking the seriousness of the matter. The house is meant to be lived. There were many rooms in this house, and it could definitely accommodate these six guests. David doesn't mind taking them.

"No, no, it's okay, Mr. Lidell. I've arranged a hotel room for them, so we'll be right away...."

Billy interrupted Pearl. "You must be this damned girl's boyfriend, huh? You are already living together, so you should get married soon! We may be just an insignificant family, but there are still rituals worth doing! We didn't ask for much, just ten million dollars, and a house and a car for your brother-in-law in River City. It doesn't have to be too expensive, and if you can afford a house this expensive, I'm sure this request means nothing to you, right?”

David dumbfounded, ‘Cursed girl?

Is he talking about Pearl?

What kind of father would call his own daughter that?

And she mistook me for Pearl's boyfriend! But considering we live in the same house, I think it makes sense that people think we're both a couple. Hmm, it seems like no one can resolve this misunderstanding, huh? But ten million dollars, and a house and a car in River City? Why does this feel like he is selling his daughter?'

David glanced at Pearl but did not say anything. Pearl's chest went up and down and she looked at her father with fear and anger. Tears were falling endlessly on his face as he shouted.

“Dad! Stop with that shit!”

“‘What do you mean by that shit? You've been living together, what's not clear here? Who else would marry you if he didn't make you his wife? How do you expect us to live with dignity at home?” Billy denied.

“Eh, Sir, I'm just Miss Pearl's boss, I'm not her boyfriend.” David said.

"Boss? What kind of boss lives with his employees? You just don't want to be in charge, do you?” ask Billy.

David was silent! Not only was the misunderstanding unresolved, but Pearl's father also made himself a target. Realizing that Billy would not listen to any explanation he gave, David remained silent.

“Dad! Please stop talking! Are you trying to screw me up?" Pearl yelled at Billy with tears in the corner of her eyes.

"Pearl, I'm here trying to help you!" Sam interrupted

He is very happy now. Now his father has asked his sister and brother-in-law to buy him a house and a car in River City. He's probably really gonna get all that.

Not to mention that ten million dollars will one day be his too. Once he had a house, a car, and savings, he didn't have to work at all. Instead, he would just go around and enjoy the view of the city.

Minnie and her parents are excited too. If Billy's demands are met, they will happily let their daughter marry Sam. They would go home proud if their son-in-law had ten million dollars as well as a house and car in River City.

Pearl looked at the expressions of her parents and sister. There was not the slightest bit of guilt for causing her pain and disarray. They are here just for the money. If David happens to be not a rich man, Pearl knows her family will do everything to get them separated. This is why they were so prepared to sell their daughter, and get a large sum of money from David when they realized that he was rich. All they care about is money. As long as they had money, what happened to Pearl was none of their business.

At this moment, Pearl suddenly understood. Since he was born, he was nothing more than an asset for his family to get what they wanted. Pearl had no one to blame but herself.

He thought that family was most important, so he only left a small portion of his income to himself and sent the rest back home.

It was at this point that he realized that he was just a plankton in the sea, with no purpose and no place of origin. His heart became cold. Without a word, Pearl turned around and walked into the elevator. All he wanted was to leave this place.

David could sense that something was wrong with the situation, so he immediately followed and got into the elevator just as the door was about to close. After the two of them left, Sam and the others shared a puzzled look. They don't know what to do. In the end, they decided to leave the house as well because it was not theirs. Pearl's threat was successful, as they did not want to be mistaken for a thief and thrown in jail.

Parks in River City, David and Pearl were sitting by the river. Pearl told David about what she had been going through for over twenty years. David listened quietly and did not speak.

"Mr Lidell, am I stupid? I give them whatever they want! If I didn't have the money, I would even borrow it from someone else and save up to repay the loan" Pearl said with great sadness.

"Miss Pearl, you're not stupid. You are too sentimental! The more you give, the more they take for granted.” David said after pondering.

“Maybe! But I have decided to live for myself for the next few decades after I spent the first twenty years for them!”

"Miss Pearl, please invite your parents to the hotel for dinner tomorrow! I have to do a little something because they've come a long way. If you need money, just go to the finance department and take it. Whatever decision you make, I will support you!” said David.

"Thank you, Mr. Lidell!”

Pearl cried as she leaned into David's embrace. He thought David would look down on him because he had such a family, but he didn't mind at all. He had no idea that David's parents had died when he was a child, and his life with Uncle Bobby wasn't much better than his life. However, she had Aunt Diana and Aunt Sally, who loved her. Pearl had no one, so her heart ached for her.

He has the best interests of his family at heart but eventually discovers that they are just using it as a tool to make money.

“Nona Pearl! Cry, take out everything you want to pour out! You will feel better after satisfied crying!” david said as he patted Pearl on the back.

Pearl cried in David's arms for about half an hour before waking up. He was embarrassed to see the chest area of David's clothes wet with his tears.

"Mr Lidell, I'm sorry! I wet your clothes.”

The two returned to the South River International Residence. They soon realize Sam and the others have left.

"Mr Lidell, I'll go look for them!”

Pearl wanted to leave after that. But David stopped it.

“Nona Pearl, didn't you say you'd live for yourself from now on? You have to learn to say no. They'll be braver if you go looking for them now. Especially they are adults. Nothing's gonna happen to them."

"Well, okay!" Good night, Mr. Lidell.!" Pearl went into his room after saying that.

He thought David was right. Because she wants to live for herself, she has to learn to say no.

David was lying on the bed. He looked at the system panel in front of him.

He has 190 points left. He wants to improve himself quickly. Making up his mind, he spent 50 luxurious points on his body. The body column changes from 50 to 100. Suddenly, David felt heat all over his body. It was as if an ant was crawling in its muscles. He feels pain. The feeling lasted for a full five minutes before disappearing.

David felt like he had just come out of the water as it seeped into his skin. Then, he calmly spent another 50 luxurious points on his mind. His head immediately felt weak. It was as if he was drunk. David closed his eyes and lay still in bed.

A few minutes later, David regained consciousness. He opened his eyes.

‘Hmm? My vision seems to have improved greatly!'

He was a bit short-sighted before. However, he could now even see a mosquito on the three-meter-high ceiling. Not only could he see it, he could also see which foot the mosquito moved. How amazing! David quickly looked at the panel.

His body and mind had reached 100 points, and they seemed to have reached the maximum limit. Even the plus sign has disappeared!

‘Does that mean I can't upgrade it anymore? No way! I can't upgrade them so fast?

I have so much money left. What can I use for fancy points? Improve skills? I can't even add 18 Dragon Taming Punches. What am I gonna do with that? Then forget it! I'll find out later.’

He felt the system was not that simple. David woke up feeling sticky. He went to the pool.

‘Nona Pearl should be in bed by now! This is a good opportunity! I'll get naked and jump into the pool! It's amazing!'

He swam two rounds and cleaned himself. David came out and observed his body. There are no changes and no protruding muscles. However, David felt the explosive force in his body. He had a feeling he could kill a cow with a single blow.
