Jon was very confused when he ended the call. He doesn't know what Chasez is planning. He was still confused to this point, but according to the previous and current senior officers, it was likely that they were indeed in serious trouble.
In the face of a first-rate noble family like Chasez, they had no chance to fight back at all. In fact, Chasez didn't even tell them the reason why they did this.
'Could it? It was Joseph's eldest grandson. He should be a little young.'
Jon wondered if this was because his daughter Celia had offended this child. So he decided to go home and ask her this.
Jon got on the train and went home.
When he got home, he saw his wife, Mindy, sitting on the sofa with a dark expression on her face.
“What happened?” Jon asked while sitting next to Mindy.
“They took the product off the shelf and claimed that it was because they failed the test. They said we should destroy it immediately and not even let me do another test! I even asked about some other supplier products but there was no one else whose goods were taken off the shelf!
They just target us without regard to the law!” Mindy said confusedly.
“Quiet, quiet! The money is a little, it's okay.” Jon comforts.
“It's not just about money!
Oh, did you manage to find out what happened from the office guy?”
“Again, but you have to be ready with what I'm going to tell you.”
“Tell me!”
“Someone is indeed targeting us, and they are very strong. We can't afford these people to be enemies.”
“Who is this? Why are they targeting us? What have we done to offend them?”
“It was the Chasez family in the Capital. As for what we should do, I don't know. Master said he would help me ask tomorrow.”
“The Chasez family? That's not possible! We did absolutely nothing to them!” exclaim Mindy shocked.
The Chasez family had a great influence both in the commercial industry and the judiciary. Young's family is too weak to fight Chasez. This time they were really messed up.
“I don't know enough to answer it, so let's take a break first. We'll find out more tomorrow" Jon said.
“You can sleep first. I don't think I can fall asleep with this problem" Mindy said worriedly.
“Sitting here all night won't change anything. Sleep, only then will we have the energy to face it all.”
“Jon! Why do you think the Chasez family targeted us? We don't even know them, let alone have the same circle. Why are they doing this to us?”
Jon thought about it before he told Mindy about his suspicions.
“The Chasez family's master, Joseph, has a grandson named Hank. Although the eldest grandchild, she is Celia's age so I wonder if she accidentally offended him or something."
“Then we should go and ask Celia now! Maybe he knows this Hank Chasez or something!” Mindy said as she got up from the sofa to go upstairs.
But Jon immediately held him back. “We can ask again tomorrow. Celia is already sleeping, so just let her be for now. Plus, it's just my suspicion, I could've been wrong."
Mindy thought about it and sat back down. “Good then. We'll ask tomorrow.”
The two leaned against each other on the sofa and waited for the morning to come.
“Honey, what will we do if we lose everything?” Mindy asked as she lay in front of Jon.
“If that happens, then we will find a rural place and build a simple house and simple life. Or we can go back to Shu City with David.”
“Do you think Chasez will leave us three alone?”
“Do not worry. As long as we don't ask for anything, they won't dare to do anything to us.” replied Jon.
After staying for so long in the Capital, Jon had the confidence to make such a statement. Chasez's family may be strong, but they're not the law. There was also a much stronger family than Chasez in the Capital.
The next day was the weekend. Celia originally planned to continue sleeping, but she was woken up by Mindy early in the morning.
“Mother! What's wrong? Can't you let me sleep longer on weekends?” Celia asked grimly.
“Wake, Celia! There's something I need to ask you!” mindy said urgently.
“What's up, Mom? Can't it wait until I wake up again? ”
“No! Wake up now!”
A moment later, Mindy pulled down Celia's blanket. He had been waiting all night to interrogate Celia. If it wasn't for Jon, he would have come and asked his question the night before.
“Down there! Your father and I are waiting for you below!” Mindy said before she left.
With the blanket open, Celia had no choice but to crawl out of bed while drowsy. After slowly taking a bath, he got down and saw his parents sitting on the sofa. None of them slept last night, only taking a short nap when it was almost dawn. Both of them seemed far from having enough rest, as if something big had happened.
“Mom, Dad, what happened? Why did you wake me up so early today?” Celia sat on the sofa and asked.
“Celia! I want to ask you something. Do you know anyone named Hank Chasez?” Jon asked.
“Hank Chasez? Never heard of him, and did not know him.” Celia replied after thinking.
“Are you sure?”
“I really don't know him. But there's a student at Greenwood named Hanley Chasez. They have the same surname, but I don't know if they are related.” Celia replied.
'Hanley Chasez?
Hank Chasez?'
Jon and Mindy's chest stiffened upon hearing the name. They had a hunch that the two men were related.
“Can you tell us more about this Hanley Chasez?”
“He was just a male student who had been chasing me for a few years, but I never agreed to be his girlfriend. I don't talk to him much, and I don't know much about him." replied Celia innocently.
“He's not a bad student. I heard that other students at Greenwood called him one of the Fantastic Four or something. I think so his family must be pretty strong! Why, Dad? Why ask about him so suddenly?"
Jon and Mindy shared their views.
“It's okay. Don't worry about it, go back to sleep. Your mother and I have something to talk about.” said Jon.
“I'll ride, then. Don't come and disturb me, let me sleep.”
“Ya, please.”
Celia's back upstairs.
“Jon! I feel like this Hanley might be involved in this" Mindy said.
“No way, I'm sure he did. It's possible that Hanley is the alias Hank uses, be it or both brothers. Hanley had been chasing Celia for so many years, yet nothing had happened. If he's only targeting us now, it's probably because he saw Celia pick David up from school yesterday. Love can turn into hate very easily, and she will probably take revenge on Celia and David.” Jon concluded.
After years of work among officials, Jon could not keep his job if he could not make such a simple analysis.
“Yes! That must be what really happened! So all this is David's fault!”
“Don't say that. It has nothing to do with David. If anything, it's our daughter's fault for being so amazing.” Jon chuckled wryly.
Despite knowing the reason now, Jon still has no solution to the hatred that comes from unrequited love and jealousy. This is unless Jon decides to separate his daughter and David, then arranges for his daughter and Hanley to be together. Unfortunately, he had no desire to do such a thing.
But there is no other solution to this problem. Jon breathed. It seemed like he was destined to live in seclusion in a country house.
Jon looked at Mindy, only to see a conflicted expression on his face. Turns out, Mindy had found the key to the problem. It was a choice to sacrifice one of the two, the happiness of their daughter or the luxuries they enjoyed today. There is no third choice.
“What should we do now, Jon?” ask Mindy.
“What else can we do?
We only have two choices, whether we sacrifice our daughter's happiness for everything we have now, or we give up everything and leave the Capital City to Shu City in South River Province with our daughter and David. It's a choice between the potential to reap the benefits as Chasez's family in-laws, which means better business for you and more promotions for me, or an ordinary life in this village.”
“I ...” Mindy don't know how to answer for a moment.
If she told her daughter to leave David and be with the Hanley man, she knew there was a chance that her daughter would obey, but also would never forgive Mindy for suggesting such a thing. Mindy has only one daughter and she is reluctant to do this to him.
It was just that he was also reluctant to give up everything he currently had, as he had worked hard for over half his life to get to where he was now. He doesn't know what to do and what choices to make.
“Begin with it, how about we ask Celia what she thinks.” Jon suggestion.
“How? If Celia finds out about this, she may choose to leave David for Chasez to save the family.” Mindy denies.
“It's nice to know that that's what you think. I thought you would ignore his happiness and force him to leave David!”
“Jon! Is that what you think of me? Yes, I may love fame and fortune, but I love my daughter more!” Mindy yells at Jon.
“Alright fine. Sorry, I was just trying to remind you.” Jon apologized immediately.
“Hmph! As if I needed you to remind me of that!”
“Good. Call Celia down, I'll ask her what she thinks. Don't say anything.”
Mindy got up to call Celia. Not long after, he returned downstairs with Celia behind him.
“IIIbuuu! Didn't I ask you not to wake me up again? It's only been a few minutes and I haven't even slept back!” Celia complained spoiledly as she walked.
“Your father called you. Go talk to him!”
“Dad! What the hell is going on? Can't you gather up all your questions and ask them at once?” Celia sat up and asked while puffing her cheeks.
“I promise I won't ask you again after this!”
“Then, quickly say what's up.”
“Celia, I want to know how you feel if one day we all have to move to the village, the three of us and David. That means no more villas and luxury cars.”
“Surely no problem! That place is good! We will get nice fresh air, and I can keep all kinds of pets!” answer Cellia.
“So you really don't care about the convenience or advantage of big cities like Capital?”
“Dad, I'm fine anywhere during family time together. Actually, I am quite envious of the people in the countryside, how the men farm outside while the women work at home.”
“Alright then. Go back to sleep.”
“It looks like I can't go back to sleep now. Mom, Dad, what's wrong? Why are you suddenly asking me this strange question?” ask Cellia.
“It's okay. I just want to see if you're willing to suffer for love. After all, David is from a small area and the two of you will return to that area after you get married. Don't regret and cry if you can't take it!”
“I wouldn't be like that! David and I can both work! Even if we have to go back to the village, I promise I will never regret it! But didn't you say David would stay with you guys in the Capital yesterday?” ask Cellia.
“I just asked. I wonder how much you like it.”
“Mother, Father! So you're acknowledging our relationship?”
“As if not acknowledging is an option, think about how the two of you have already acted with each other! Huh, you're already by her side and you two aren't even married!” Jon breathed.
“Don't say that, Dad! I will always be your daughter wherever I am!”
“Yes, yes, I know! I'm just saying it. Go back upstairs, your mom and I need to talk.”
“Oh alright!” Celia went back upstairs again.
Jon said, “Then let's finish this. We will try to leave as much as we can for them to alleviate as much financial pressure from them as possible.”
“Alright!”
Although he still seemed hesitant, he had no other choice but to do what Jon said.
