Law of attraction, I believe if my mind wants to attract someone to have coffee with me then I will be able to attract that person. So I focused all my attention on my desire. I bought two drinks, hoping someone would sit down at a table with me and be willing to share a story, accompanying my solitude on my birthday.
Airports and wounded hearts, I don't want to let this ruin the glorious day of my life. Minutes passed, the table in front of me and to my left and right were still empty. I waited, hoping the table would fill up soon and then I could greet them and offer to join in at the same table. I am Vashla, the girl who is often not ashamed to realize the things I want, even though it is a trivial desire. However, until the ice melted in the drink I bought, the table was still empty.
I got up and stood up, approaching the corner table in the cafe, a young man busy with his HP. Short hair, not too tall posture, Middle Eastern stature. He wore long jeans, sneakers, a T-shirt and a light brown leather jacket over it.
"Hi, may I ask you a favor?" ask me without a stale base.
"How can I do for you?" tanyakanya.
"I have a problem with the internet at the airport and also this cafe, can you lend me your internet for a while?".
He typed his password in my HP and then I passed. Go back to the table, sit down daydreaming and ask yourself. You need friends to share and celebrate birthdays together, why ask the internet network from him. I don't need the internet. Then I realized that my heart was nervous in front of him. Talking to strangers can sometimes trigger an unusual heartbeat.
How do we imagine the response of that person. I reigned again in my madness. It's overcast, just a little more to create imagination in my head. I got up from my desk and then came back in front of the man. He was surprised because I showed up all of a sudden.
"Actually, today is my birthday. Do you want to celebrate it with me?" I must be crazy. Ask a stranger to celebrate my birthday.
She laughs. I'm confused as to why. Does this guy think I'm crazy or maybe he's mocking. I want to cancel what I just said. But words I can never take back.
"Today is my birthday too" he said.
"What's? Unbelievable" I said gawking.
Oh, this is a beautiful coincidence. When you are looking for people to accompany you to celebrate your birthday, then the person you invite is actually a birthday without you knowing before. I really laughed with joy. But wait, what if he lied. It could have been, what was said was just a joke. However, he seemed honest when he delivered it.
"Nih my passport, if you want to see" is like reading my doubts. He opened his passport and put it on the table.
I approached. The writing there is mixed Arabic and Latin writing, I can see that he has the same date of birth as me.
"You're right, we have the same date" I said after checking the truth.
He agreed to move to my desk and then we both had a toast. It was a beautiful day. We became friends and even shared personal things. Not to forget we took photos and our passports.
"Funny yes, remember the incident" I said to Saad while asking him to remember the events of last year.
"Yes, it just so happens to be unique. Imagine trying, what percentage of events like this happen in this world. At the airport, a woman stood in front of me and invited me who was a stranger to celebrate his birthday. At the same time, it turns out I have a birthday too. But I thank you" he said as he called the waiter.
"For?" I scrunched my forehead.
"Because of your bravery last year. Doing all that, I have friends from Indonesia. You are a bold woman" she replied with a laugh.
We ordered Coffee and Ice Cocholate to repeat the memories of last year. We chose a different cafe.
"Yes, I'm home as usual. Once a few months I fly to my country" he replied.
"How business? smoothly?" ask again.
"Well.that's how. Sometimes good sometimes not. Especially when Corona is like this".
Saad studied in Turkey, in Istanbul. After college, he decided to build a company and then run an export-import business from Turkey to Algeria and vice versa.
"Tell me your story. Yesterday you told me about a guy you liked for 3 years and then you made it with him in Estonia?" Saad curious.
We often share stories, including the story of my relationship. If Saad calls, I can't help sharing my story with him. Especially because this man is very comfortable to talk to.
"Yes, as you know, I fell in love with a German man, my own best friend. Love in the winter season. Our friendship journey started in Bali 3 years ago. Luky, he's the man I finally chose".
"He's still in Tallinn?" Saad asked again.
"Yes, we want to get married in Indonesia. He'll be coming home to Germany soon, meeting his family and getting everything ready for our wedding later. But he's now stuck in Tallinn, his flight canceled".
"Well, I heard that. Many flights were cancelled. Just look at the bulletin board, many countries are shutting down access at this time to prevent the spread of the virus" Saad pointed to the notice board.
"Yes, that makes me sad too. Our wedding preparations went well. Is Luky going to get his flight scheduled soon? I can't stop worrying" I said heartily.
"Vashla, there's gotta be a way. It may be a challenge but we'll get through this. Pandemic is history, it happened long before we. Colera, Spanish Flu, Ebola and so on. We will survive!" Saad looks so optimistic and somehow it makes me a little relieved.
"Eh, can I borrow your internet again?" I still want to continue the discussion with him. But I also want to check on Luky.
"Want to call Luky?" He knew right away. I'm nodding.
"Wear as much as you want" like dejavu. We repeat this exactly as we did last year at this airport.
"Thank you Saad" I smiled at him and then let him stay away for a while to call Luky.
We talked for 30 minutes. Saad patiently waited busy playing games on his HP. He shows no boredom or hastiness at all. I called Luky to ask him again about the flight schedule. Luky sounded lethargic when he answered him because there was no news from the travel agency he ordered his ticket. I tried to cheer him up before hanging up.
"Where?" Saad asked as I returned to our table.
I sighed and gave her an update. Saad tried to convince me that everything would be okay. We continued the story until it was time to part ways because of Saad's earlier flight from me. He hugged me tightly and asked me to give him any updates or even when I needed help.
"Remember, don't hesitate. You know I have a lot of friends here. They can come to the airport at any time if I ask" he said before passing.
I waved at him and then sat back down while writing my diary. Looking forward to a flight to Jakarta, I can't wait.
