IN THE CAGE
133. ODDS

...NORMAL pov...

...----------------...

Indira stood in front of the tightly shut window. His palm touched the window glass while it was raining heavily out there. The fall hit the glass and created a thin dew at the end of his warm fingers. The blackened sky out there and the occasional lightning illuminating space did not affect him at all. Indira - with her grim look - was still staring out the window, her heart filled with dilemmas and wounds.

Today, Indira has gained her freedom. No, rather than calling it freedom, the cage surrounding it was simply expanded. He-still was on the palm of Evan Caspian's hand. He still wears an invisible chain around his neck.

Today too, in exchange for the freedom that Indira received-Fawnia, the bodyguard that she had considered a brother, became a prisoner at the Caspian residence.

Indira still does not believe the situation that is now happening, and still cannot forgive Anggara after he heard what Anggara has done behind him. Utilizing Fawn as a distraction on her wedding day is a very dangerous thing, and instead of giving Fawn a hand in her mission, Anggara lets Fawn go on that mission to die.

"You know," said Indira, breaking the silence in the study. His eyes glared at the figure of Anggara reflected faintly on the glass. "If Fawn is free and decides to kill me, or kill you. somehow, maybe I won't blame her."

"He wouldn't do that, Indi." Anggara. "You know, Fawn. His loyalty is great to us. He'll obey, no, he'll understand."

"There are limits to understanding, Angga. I've already exceeded that limit now." Indira turned her body, hands crossed in front of her chest. "I didn't know you could go that far, I mean, you didn't even question my decision. Do you think I'd be okay if something happened to Fawn?"

"This is the problem, you're too attached to Fawn! I've been warning you since you were a kid, Indi. They work for us, to serve you. Not to be the one you need to love half-dead! When a situation like this happens, you should understand Fawn was just doing her job. He himself understands that."

"Fawn's human like me, Anggara. Even if he wasn't close to me, sending him on such a suicide mission was a mistake. You're a monster."

"This monster is trying to protect you from Ace! Do you know what would happen if your marriage and Evan didn't happen? What would happen if Ace caught you? We're all gonna be done, Indira. You won't be able to make it this far, living this comfortable life...,"

Indira approached Anggara, sitting in front of the man with a rough body on the sofa. "You think I want to live like this? You just want our family's good name to be brilliant, Angga. You don't care about reality. You don't care if I marry Evan or not, our family is destined to fall apart!"

"No!" Anggara fought Indira back, with a frightening determination. The pair of honey irises looked at Indira with firmness. "I won't let Rashid's family be destroyed. I will make our family successful. I don't care about destiny, I'll write down our own family destiny. You have to understand this!"

"With what? How did you do it, Angga? Are you gonna keep licking Evan's leg?" Indira blurted out her words like poison. Anggara swallowed all his insults without any nervousness and disappointment.

"If licking Evan's leg can make our family survive, Indira. I'll do it." Anggara has made his determination. He will not retreat in the middle of the road. If to defend his family, if he wants to protect Vera and Indira, he is willing to do whatever is necessary to achieve his goals.

Silence erupted between them after Anggara successfully silenced Indira with his voice firmly. Indira again felt a pain in his head, his heart seemed to be squeezed by sinful feelings. At that moment, Indira again thought about Fawn's news. His beloved bodyguard has successfully attracted the attention of Evan completely. Evan will use Fawn as his weapon now, the weapon he will use to injure Ace.

Oh. Ace.

'What should I do, Ace?' Indira is frustrated. Not only does he feel angry at Anggara who has taken advantage of Fawn's loyalty, Indira also feels very surprised when she learns Fawn has a connection with Ace. His fawn. Does that mean that during Fawn's disappearance, Ace already knew about Fawn's whereabouts and lied to Indira to find out who Evan's secret client was?

What kind of hell is Fawn facing in her name in her place? Indira was deeply hurt as the question rippled through her mind.

It's very complicated. Indira doesn't know who to side with now. She could have sided with Anggara because the man was her brother, and Evan was clearly her husband. However, both of them have committed enough crimes to make Indira want to vomit. Don't forget the fact that Evan Caspian was involved in Ace's parents' murder as well. Damn, is Anggara involved?

"Yes?"

"Don't deny me or try to trick me again," Indira grabbed Anggara's arm and gripped him firmly. "Are you involved in the murder?"

Anggara instantly brushed Indira's hand off his arm, an angry expression blooming on his reddened face. "Whatchu mean? Are you crazy? Do you think I can go that far?"

"I don't know how far you can go, Angga. It's hard to measure someone's greedy determination." Indira responded coldly, "So, answer me one more time..."

"No!" Anggara denied it and stood up. "I'm not involved in that damned thing."

"Did you know Evan was involved?"

Anggara nodded, disliking it. He felt Indira would hate him even more if he lied there.

"You know Evan is an asshole and you still support him" Indira muttered in disappointment.

"I support him because he is your husband, Indi. Also, when did you find out about this? Did Ace tell you or Evan?"

"It's none of your business." Indira felt her heart slump into her stomach. All this is getting heavier for his brain to process.

"If you knew this for a long time, you should have run away, right? But you stay here, doesn't that mean you support Evan too?"

Indira leaned her back against the back of the sofa, eyes closed for a moment to digest the disgusting Anggara accusations in her ears. "I'm staying here because I'm a prisoner, Angga. You sent me here, and I trusted you when you said this was for our good."

"And I'm not lying, it's for our good, Indira. We're gonna win and everything's gonna go back to how it was."

"You know, to do that, you need to kill Fawn and Ace, right?" Indira laughed a little when she opened her eyes again, she laughed at Anggara's words which she thought was very naive.

"Do you think it's impossible for me-for Evan to get rid of Ace?"

"I'm Ace's best friend" muttered Indira. Although he felt Ace did not look at him with the same value, Indira always felt Ace was his best friend. Because that..,.,., um...,

"I know what that man is capable of."

"No." Anggara is still in dispute. "Now the results will be different, we have Fawn. If what Vera is saying is the truth, if Ace loves Fawn so much, then we have a chance to get rid of Ace now."

Indira said nothing of Anggara's optimism. He just sat leaning there, staring at Anggara with a pair of eyes that were starting to lose their passion. He felt right then - he had lost his future.
