I returned to my seat and tried my best to avoid looking at him. I turn my face in any direction as long as I don't see him. But I can still see him clearly. He seemed focused on looking at the iPad screen, which made me feel relieved. There will be no more interaction between us. I did the same, busy with the files I had previously opened. Struggling to focus, because honestly, my mind was still completely distracted by him. I was restless in silence.
My short trip to the bathroom didn't help at all.
"Excuse me..." I heard that voice again. I decided to respond quickly. I turned my head towards him and looked at him. Our eyes looked at each other but it was calmer, not as loud as the first.
"Yes?" I answered. He thought for a few seconds.
"I need some help. If you don't mind?" He was very polite, asking permission before asking for help. I feel kind of weird, but yeah... His polite attitude should be thumbs up.
"If I can help, okay, why not?"
"Your name?" She asked. I was stunned, looking into his eyes to make sure that he wasn't joking. That's a silly question. My name? But he looks very serious.
"My name?" I'm ascertaining.
"Yes, your name is..."
"Why should I tell you my name?" I don't accept. There was a feeling of being deceived in my heart. Should have been if he wanted to acquaintance, can say frankly from the beginning right? I'm a little upset. He was a bit surprised to receive my response. He probably didn't expect that the matter about the name with me wasn't as easy as he thought. Might as well.
After a few seconds of silence, he continued the other nonsense and I was already upset.
"You said you'd help me..." There was a demanding tone in his words.
"Yes, I will. But it has nothing to do with my name." I'm firm. He nodded lightly, stroking his chin. Honestly, his expression is funny. But I'm holding back the ticklish. I have to make it look serious.
"You're right. But the help I want is, I want to know your name." He asserted again. My turn was surprised. He really wants to know my name. Wh-wh-what for?
"Ah... So. Knowing my name will help you in something... Is that what it means?" I pretended to understand what he meant by the mangosteen.
"Rubber. That's why knowing your name is so important." He agreed immediately. All right, I knew that we had to have that silly conversation for a while.
"May I ask? Since it's about my name, how far can it be useful to help you?" I decided to act silly. Even more ridiculous than him. She pulled her lips to one corner, smiled knotfully, then played her lips, licked and bit her. Do I look funny?
"Well... To help me feel at peace for the rest of the day. You know that, right? When a person loses his peace, it will not be good for his health. Physically and mentally..." He tried to make a reasonable excuse. There is honesty and a little bit of desperation. The look on his face was a little pinched, helping to convey his feelings. I still struggle to hold amused in my heart. Do I feel happy? Yeah, slightly.
"Well. That's my point. Waw! I met a very nice woman right next to me. I'm very lucky today..." I doubt, is he really happy or feeling apes? I sighed softly. We could have gotten into that shit.
"Then it's good to help you. My name is Jade Moon. I really hope you'll have a sense of peace for the rest of the day." I said my words politely and as gently as possible, looking right into his eyes. His expression was priceless. He looked very happy, a bright smile and his eyes twinkled. I wonder why my name can help her look happy.
"Oh, so. Thank you Miss Jade Moon. But wait, should I call it Jade as it is written in the letters J-A-D-E or /Jeid/ which means precious stone?" Oh, he's trying to make the conversation longer. In a polite way. Indeed, the image of an Earnest Lee is famous as a man of manners. I saw how he could get that nickname and be recognized by the whole world.
"The second, /Jeid/, precious stone." Answer's short.
"Oh so..." He's mangosteen.
"Thank you Miss Jade Moon. And from your last name, are you Korean?" He still seems to be continuing the conversation. I'm back upset.
"Does it still have anything to do with the peace and mental physical health you mentioned earlier?" I looked right in his eyes. He was shocked again, for the second time, but he seemed to be enjoying the conversation. Within seconds, his facial expression returned.
"Yes right. I suppose so. I mean this way. When we eat, we usually do not only have 1 type of dish. I mean, to make a meal perfect, we need to have a complete package of dishes consisting of several types of food. Right?" From being upset, I got to the point of hearing his argument that was actually not important. It was as if he was talking to a child.
"Considerate. Well then, based on that reason, it seems like I should still be kind, adding one more dish to this entire package of dishes right? Yes, I am Korean." I finally gave him the answer he wanted. He's mangosteen.
I wish I could make it stop by making it harder for her to get answers from me, and it seems to work. He was silent for a few seconds. But then he continued.
"Thank you Miss Jade Moon, for your kindness. But, don't you want to know my name too? I mean, people usually like to share. You share your name and I'll share my name with you? What do you think?" He was still trying to prolong the conversation. Isn't that stupid? I grumbled in my heart.
“Iya. Usually is. But for now, I choose to share without receiving anything in return. Life isn't always about giving and receiving, is it? Sometimes, we need to share what others need from us without taking something in return. I think we are wise enough to understand this. Didn't you?" I really wanted to stop that conversation. She's surprised. He bit his lower lip. Maybe think about what to say. Goody! He was at a loss for words for a moment.
"Well, I'm very lucky. I sat next to a kind and wise woman. I don't want anything anymore. I'm really lucky. Thank you Miss Jade Moon, for your discretion. I learned something today..." Finally, he gave a closing speech. Good though. I turned away, not wanting to see the expression on his face that was trying to make him look happy when he wasn't. More precisely, he looked annoyed. But I chose the cake.
"By pleasure." I answered briefly and returned to the starting position, sat up straight and looked ahead. I hope he won't continue that stupid conversation again. It's no use. I never wanted to share my attention on the unimportant aspects of life. My world is only about two things; when I come home to my tiny apartment to rest and when I am at work. The rest is just complementary and I don't want to drain energy for unimportant things.
That was the end of our conversation. I felt a little guilty for wasting that precious opportunity to get close to my dream man. But on the other hand, I feel proud of myself for being able to remain gracefully in response to that ridiculous interaction and not be fooled to be tempted to the end.
For that, I try to be happy.
