ACTS OF APOSTLE
chapter 31

*Bilal bin Rabbah*

Some of the followers of the Prophet ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ The first came from the poor and weak. The teachings of Islam that forbade oppression made many slaves quickly become Muslims. However, if their master knew of this, the slaves were forced to choose:

return to idolatry or torture.

"Throw him and lay his body on the sand!" raung Umayyah bin Khalaf Al Juhmi. Apparently, he was very angry to know a slave, Bilal bin Rabbah, became a follower of the Prophet. He was even more angry when he found out that Bilal, the young man in black, would rather face torture and defy his will than have to get out of his new religion.

The Umayyads took off all Bilal's clothes. Then, the poor boy was laid out on a desert that was so hot that the sun was overhead.

"Dear slave, you will be treated like this until you die or you deny Muhammad and return to worship Lata and Uzza!".

Facing the threat, Bilal simply said,

"Ahad! Sunday!" ("God is He! Exalted be Allah! ")

The sound of the whip turned the ears red when Bilal was tortured, "Ahad! Sunday!"

"Put a big rock over his chest!" raung Umayyad.

Bilal felt his chest almost crumpled and felt so tight that he could hardly breathe or make a sound, but he still chanted his words. "Ahad! Sunday! Sunday!"

Bilal's mother, Hamamah, was also tortured by her master. According to one account, he died in the torture and died a martyr.

(In another account, Hamamah, the Prophet's independence was ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ).

*Khalid bin Sa'id*

Like Bilal, Khalid ibn Sa'id was among the first to believe. Khalid was the fifth person to convert to Islam. He dreamed of falling into the abyss of fire, but was saved by someone who turned out to be the Prophet.

*Torture For Torture*

After seeing the Umayyads torture Bilal so cruelly, the slave owners and other rulers of the Quraysh tortured their slaves who were found to have converted to Islam. Various tortures were very cruel inflicted on the first Muslims.

"What punishment should I inflict on this rebellious slave, sir?" Ask executioner.

The Master smiled cynically, "Whip him until your hands are no longer able!"

The executioner carries out his duties obediently. The sound of whip blisters accompanied by moans of people rang out from second to second. Each blister makes the pain more painful than the previous one. Some strong people survive until fainting. Some others died because they were not strong enough to withstand the pain.

More than that, it was not just the whip that spoke.

"Open clothes!" an aristocrat orders his bouncer.

Some of the poor Muslim slaves soon became shirtless.

"Wear them iron clothes that are tight against the skin!" grin the nobleman.

The bouncers immediately complied.

"Now, burn the armor that has been worn!" exclaim nobility with savage.

The screams of pain of the Muslim slaves were heartbreaking because the burnt armor scorched their entire skin.

*Ummu Ubais and Zinnirah*

Umm Ubais and Zinnirah were two Muslim women who were tortured to the point of being blind. The Quraysh ridiculed it by saying that the blindness was due to them being cursed with idols.

However, with the permission of Allah ⁇ Hittletshit, the two could then look again so that the Muslims could avenge the taunts of the infidels.

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَ عَلَى آلِ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمد

*First Syahidah*

Patience, said the Prophet ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ , whenever his followers complained of their suffering. At that time there was nothing else to do but to be patient to death. Such patience made the first Muslims able to endure torment beyond the limits of human physical ability.

Khabbab bin Al Arat once asked that the Messenger of Allah ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ in the face of this oppression. Hearing this, the Messenger of Allah ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ Sits with a red face while serving,

"Truly it happened before you, there was a person who combed his body with an iron comb until the flesh peeled off and saw his bones. However, he remained firm in his belief. Allah ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ Allah will perfect this affair until a horseman walks from Shan'a to Hadramaut and he will fear none but Allah. Remember, the wolf will remain in the midst of the shepherd, only you will be off guard."

Sumayyah was the mother of Ammar ibn Yasir. Along with her husband and son, Sumayyah was tortured for following the teachings of the Prophet. He was dragged through the streets of Mecca, then thrown into the desert.

"Pump him! Beat him hard!" Abu Jahl's orders.

Sumayyah was beaten to unconsciousness. This was done over and over again for days. However, the more his body ached, the higher Sumayyah's faith.

"You followed Muhammad because you were interested in his good looks!" ejek Abu Jahl's.

"No," Sumayyah's bell,

"I followed the Prophet because I believed in what he said. I followed the Prophet because he taught that there is a God more worthy of worship than your idols!"

Eventually, Abu Jahl's patience ran out. He took out a spear and stabbed Sumayyah.

Sumayyah is recorded in history as the first Muslim woman to be martyred (shahidah) for defending Islam.

*Heaven For Yasir Family*

When the Messenger of Allah ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ watched Yasir, Sumayyah and Yasir's son Ammar be severely tortured, he said, "O Yasir's family, the place you have been promised is heaven."

*REDEMPTION*

Seeing their new brethren being tortured so cruelly, Abu Bakr, Uthman ibn Affan, and all the rich believers acted immediately. Abu Bakr came to Umayyad ibn Khalaf who was torturing Bilal.

"Free him" asked Abu Bakr.

"No!" Umayyad Cibir.

"You and your friends have poisoned his mind! It is precisely I who ask you to stop your evil influence on this slave of mine!"

Abu Bakr felt that the Umayyad heart could not be persuaded anymore, so he immediately made an offer.

"Cubeli Bilal from you! Look, these are five gold uqiyah! Take the money, and give Bilal to me!"

With a triumphant grin, the Umayyads snatched the gold coins.

"O Abu Bakr! Suppose you bid one uqiyah, of course I sell it! He is no longer valuable to me!"

Abu Bakr's face reddened, not because of anger, but because it was filled with happiness could help his oppressed brother.

"Don't just five uqiyah" Abu Bakr said wholeheartedly, "If you sold a hundred uqiyah, I would still buy it!"

Now it was the turn of Umayyad's face that was flushed. The profit he would get if he bid even higher.

The benevolent Abu Bakr then freed Bilal. Not stopping there, he continued to use his property to free five other Muslims who were being tortured. The last slave to be freed was a slave belonging to Umar bin Khattab.

The Quraysh mocked Abu Bakr, "The vain steps of Abu Bakr! He's wasting money on freeing people!"

However, the spirit of Abu Bakr actually burned other Muslims to try hard to free their brothers.
