*Request Miracles*
Seriously or simply mocking, the Quraysh often asked the Prophet for miracles.
"If your Lord could bring down a miracle, we would believe in you!" one of them said to the Messenger of Allah.
"Muhammad! If you are indeed the Messenger of Allah, ask the Lord to turn the Mounts of Shafa and Marwa into golden hills!" yell at the other.
"Yes, that's right! But if your Lord is not able to make a golden hill, try to lower the verses of Allah in a book that is sent down directly from the heavens! It will make us believe!"
The Prophet did not respond to these strange requests. Seeing the Prophet remain silent and calm, the Quraysh became even more upset. From time to time, often in public and witnessed by the crowd, they make other more impossible requests.
"Muhammad, we heard you talk about Gabriel often. Why do you not show Gabriel before us so that we may be sure?"
"Muhammad, if your Tuhammu is as good as you say, ask Him to bring to life our dead parents!"
"Muhammad, you said you brought the religion of compassion to all nature! Then ask your Lord to bring forth springs that are better than the well of Zamzam! Did you not know that the people of Mecca were in great need of water?"
"Yes, at least ask your Lord to remove the hills that enclose Mecca so that this city can be easily reached by people from any direction!"
*Answer for the Quraysh*
It is God Himself who answers these requests through His word:
Say: I have no power to avail myself and I do not (also) reject misery except as Allah wills. And if I had known the unseen, I would have made much virtue and I would not have been afflicted with harm. I am nothing but a warner, and a bearer of glad tidings to those who believe.
Surah Al - A'raf (7:188)
Through this verse, Allah told the Messenger of Allah to say, "O Quraysh, I am only a warner. Am I not asking you things beyond the means of reason? Why are you asking me to show you things that don't make sense?
"O Quraysh, is not the Qur'an itself a miracle? Then, why are you still asking for another miracle? If the miracle had been sent down, would you have believed in me? Wouldn't it be that if the miracle came down, you would say that I was just a fabricated witch?
"O you Quraysh, if you do not worship Allah and continue to worship idols, why do you not ask for them? Do you not know that idols cannot bring good? Aren't they motionless, lifeless, and made only of stone and wood? Wouldn't they be unable to defend themselves if someone came and destroyed it?
*Ammarah bin Walid*
Even if he did not embrace Islam, Abu Talib was the protector of the Prophet. If anyone harms the Prophet, Abu Talib and his people are ready to defend him to the point of the final blood. No enemy of the Prophet dared to kill him without confronting Abu Talib and his people. Knowing of Abu Talib's protection, the leaders of the Quraysh came to the parents at his house.
"Mother Thalib" so they spoke,
"your nephew has cursed our idols, reviled our religion, and considered our ancestors heretics. You need to stop him now. If not, let us face it. If you protect him too, let us report to you who will face your tribe."
Abu Talib let out a heavy sigh,
"By God's Kaaba, let all of Mecca get in my way, I will still protect my niece."
The leaders of the Quraysh looked at each other, and left without saying anything. However, they were not able to face the civil war that would destroy the city of Mecca. They twisted their wits and found another ruse.
The leaders of the Quraysh came back to Abu Talib, bringing with them Ammarah bin Walid. He was the mighty and most handsome young Quraysh of his face.
"Take him! Make him a child. It's yours. However, hand over your niece who violates our religion and the religion of our forefathers, which divides our unity for us to kill!"
"How about Abu Talib? Isn't this a fair exchange? A man is exchanged for a man!"
Abu Talib's face turned furious. With burning eyes, the nobles stared at him one after another.
"How bad is your offer to me!" anger Abu Talib.
"Imagine, you gave your son to me to feed, and I have to give up my son to kill you! By God Ka'ba, this is something that can't happen forever!"
Abu Talib was the leader of the tribe of Banu Hashim. Now Bani Hashim split in two. The poor defended Abu Talib, while the rich defended Abu Lahab.
