Veronica who had been calculating the duration of work for the past few days, turned her feet away from the reward piling up like a mountain, and headed for her office.
She has been examining her husband closely for the past week. He seems to have lost his memory as prescribed by the doctor, yet he cannot ignore the thought that it might be part of some grand plan by him.
But he had changed enough to the point that he wondered about what was really going on in his head.
It would be strange if he asked well, but he would look crazy if he asked badly.
Veronica who headed to the second floor hesitated before knocking on her study door. Every time he came here, his memories of their first night would clearly appear as if it was just yesterday. It was an existing and uncontrollable condition that occurred outside of Veronica's will. The woman's dizzying voice that sounded that night was just as if it was drifting slowly around the edge of her ear.
At that moment, Ivan Wilhem left her alone in that place with another woman in his arms.
Veronica shook her head and put away those trivial thoughts as much as possible.
"Are you here?"
After knocking, the door opened and he felt a cool breeze.
Ivan leaned against the wide open window. Ivan, who was looking out the window as if he was waiting for something, turned his head towards Veronica.
Over the past week, there were three kinds of strange aspects that he discovered as he observed them closely.
First and foremost, her irises are bright blue, but sometimes they appear red like rubies. That different feature was seen when he looked elsewhere and looked back at her especially as she was now.
The second is the food. Ivan would always avoid mealtime because he did not want to sit at the same dining table even 'accidentally' with him. But now she had always eaten together with him since the day he was revived.
Unlike the first day when she was revived, the amount of her food had now returned to the amount that others used to eat.
It was lucky, but to be honest, Veronica was in a tight position due to being uncomfortable at every meal. Because every time he put food in his mouth and chewed on it, he would throw a sharp glare at her who was opposite him. Veronica would feel uncomfortable and would shiver as if she had become food that would roll on her tongue and be bitten between her teeth.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
There was one time when he asked, unable to withstand his persistent gaze. Then after putting in a piece of meat whose blood was dripping and did not smell raw like fish, he replied.
"It looks good, that's why."
'What does he mean by 'Look good, that's why', when he has eaten.'
It seemed like he was talking about Veronica, whom he was looking at, as a target. It wasn't the meat she chewed and swallowed, so she felt very strange and awkward. Since she had no thought of digging out her intentions any more than this, Veronica closed her mouth and quietly continued eating her. But it had been a long time since his appetite had dropped to its lowest point.
He had no choice, so he ate together with her at every mealtime even after that, but he could not erase her agitated expression.
Ivan, coming down from the window ledge, approached him with hard footsteps.
Ivan's gaze flashed across Veronica's face for a moment. Then not long after, his mouth stretched out without hesitation and smiled.
"What's with that serious look? Did something happen?"
And the third strange aspect he revealed was more serious than the two he had calculated before.
Ivan looked at Veronica who did not reply with a blank look, then suddenly exclaimed, "Ah!"
"Or, do you finally want to use one bedroom together?"
The third change was crazy and made his heart jump all of a sudden. Namely, his request that he be completely obsessed, sleep together.
Veronica begins to get fed up with her constant demands, which sound like a broken machine. Despite secretly refusing her request that had lasted until she was fed up, she could not hide her embarrassment. She never really expected him to embarrass her with something like this.
"It's not so."
"Isn't that?"
He had a flat expression on his face, as if he had become extremely cold. The corner of his mouth, which was slightly curved, awkward and unfamiliar. So far, the only expression Veronica had seen from him had always been expressionless or angry.
Veronica took a few steps back to get away from her husband, who approached her so close to her nose without caring about anything. Once there was enough room to load someone up, he felt like he could breathe again. It was the right distance to see her husband in person.
"Yes. It's not that."
As soon as Veronica completely cut her chances, she grinned and chuckled at him as if it might be something very funny. Strictly pretending he didn't even notice his laughter, he stretched out a square piece of paper he had been holding onto him all along.
"I think you should visit the palace immediately. His Majesty the Emperor sent a letter."
The beautiful letter that was sandwiched between the pile of presents was from Claire, the Emperor of the Armeta Empire. Since the past, when Claire was the Crown Prince and Ivan was the rightful Heir of the Duke, the two maintained a close relationship and spent time together. Even after they became adults, they maintained their very close friendship when Ivan became the Chief of Payment who helped the Emperor with all emotional and material support.
The emperor, Claire, was more helpful than anyone when Ivan was sick, sent palace doctors, medicine, and more, and was glad to hear that he had come back to life. The content written in the letter was sent as soon as the period of political movement ended. It was said that he wanted to meet her as soon as possible.
'If as before, I'll let my husband go alone but...'
During their marriage, Veronica did not often join the Emperor and her husband in their meetings. He had no idea what kind of personality Claire had, but he did not want to meet her if she could get along well with Ivan. It might even be seen as a refusal to appear in front of the emperor, but knowing the fact that Ivan in the past was also unhappy in the place where he was with him, it was cleared. Ivan was an almost perfect husband in handling such things.
"Let's go together."
"Are you going too, wife?"
