BRACKET. The sound of the door slamming loudly shocked me who was reading the files given by Jim. I was concentrating on reading the details word for word of the deed of establishment of the Bidadari Halmahera Foundation which has received endorsement from a notary. Jim said every word in the deed could have consequences for my legal rights and responsibilities. Therefore I must understand the details of the deed. Let no one be missed.
As a layman, I just do what Jim suggests as long as it's logical and good for me going forward. Legality documents are not complete. Several licensing documents are in the process of management. Tomorrow I have to come alone to the bank to take care of the account opening process by bringing a letter of recommendation from PT XY, the deed of establishment that has been approved by this notary and several other files that Jim has prepared neatly and thoroughly.
A beautiful woman came out in a hurry from the room with a sturdy black wooden door by which she was slammed hard to surprise me and Jim who were pursuing our respective documents.
"Where are you going, Maudy. We're not done talking." Bray is seen catching up and pulling the girl's smooth hand back into the room.
The girl brushed aside violently. "I can't live in the middle of a forest like this, Fir. Cannot. I'm not an orangutan." the squeak is hard.
"Who said you were an orangutan. I'm just asking you to understand I'm struggling to get a contract and partner with a world-class electric car battery company. The company must be a green company. We have reserves of raw materials that if we process finished goods on the site more efficient. Process is already running. We just have to wait a few more months. Their appraisal team will come here reviewing the location directly. I have to be here to make sure everything goes according to plan."
"From the beginning no one agreed with your idealistic plan. The ends must be a loss. Just sell raw nickel to China like any other company operating on the island of Obi. Our base is in Jakarta. We look for other businesses in Jakarta if you want to develop a business. Not here."
I'm stunned. Apparently it was a high-class strategic business conversation in the company. The beautiful girl must be the owner of 20% shares which the other day overtook Bray by helicopter because it was about to give a surprise. Is he her lover?
Bray glanced at me. Slowly he let go of his hand at the beautiful girl.
"Yes already. Up yours. We have never had a vision before." he said in a low voice. Bray looks very disappointed. His face looks tired and grim.
"You who were stubborn and power-conscious before." the girl rebuked Bray while pointing her index finger.
Bray shrugged and pouted.
"Look at it later. If you insist on your own will, the company must lose. It has been 4 years this company operates but the results are still far from the word BEP. That's because you're too tolerant of a society that doesn't know the law and waste a lot of money on CSR programs."
I heard the girl's words. So, the point is that the girl does not agree to the expenditure of funds for CSR activities. This means that it has to do with funding for foundations and plans for the development of bird conservation places endemic to the Halmahera forest. Why do I feel guilty. Suddenly I had no more concentration to read the details word for word what was contained in the notary deed that is now in hand.
"If your family wants to leave this company, it doesn't matter. Tell me how much I need to pay. I'll try to call my friends. Many friends agreed with my idea and were willing to invest." Now Bray retaliates with his chin raised. Clearly he was challenging with his arrogance.
The girl threw away her face then stepped away quickly but gracefully. His face flushed and folded. Very angry with Bray.
No tok no tok. His pointy-tipped high shoes rang loudly when colliding with a smooth and sleek ceramic floor. His tired heel supports the weight of the body as if it does not prevent him from stepping. I'm sure, if I wear those shoes, it'll fall down. She's a great girl.
Bray stood waiting for the girl to be unseen before approaching me who was still sitting dumbstruck at Jim's desk.
"Good day, Fifa. How are you?" sapanya friendly.
"Good, Brother."
"Jim, please help Fifa get a laptop. Try asking the IT team there may be a temporary laptop backup that can be used by him before the laptop ordered yesterday arrives. He could have an office here first. You teach to be proficient in operating a laptop and some important applications. You don't mind practicing computers from Jim, do you, Fifa?"
I didn't dare look at Bray but my head nodded. I'm always happy when I get a chance to learn something new. On the other hand, doubt and unease disturbed my mind. I really don't want my position here to be burdensome for a company that said the girl was still in a position not yet BEP. What is BEP? Does that mean the company is still losing money? I don't know for sure. I can only guess the financial position of the company seems unstable so that the girl is angry because Bray is considered squandering money for something that is uncertain.
What is the real conflict between them? Disputes of opinion or there is a spice of personal problems that contribute in it. Whatever it is, my presence here will surely make the girl even more angry at Bray.
Then what should I do? The girl whose family owns shares in the company disagrees with Bray wasting money on CSR programs. This is gonna be a new problem for me. Would I rather just back off? After all, I am still able to take care of the rare birds in the aviary that has been built in the front yard of the house. No matter how small my role, the important thing is that I have tried to save the lives of these beautiful birds. That's better than squandering large funds without the approval of another company's shareholder.
"Tomorrow, please take Fifa to the bank to open an account." Bray spoke while knocking Jim's desk.
Bray turned to look at me. "This week Jim will help you, Fifa. If your new laptop has arrived, you can work from home and learn self-taught at home. Now a lot of impressions and written content that can be used to learn something we want to learn. There is only our passion and hard work that needs to be maintained so that we can quickly proficient in something. I'm sure you can."
I nodded and smiled at the words of support and motivation that came out of her sweet mouth. In this office, Bray's attitude looks wise and nurturing. Different attitude to the previous when meeting outside the office. The atmosphere looks formal. Looks serious. No dirty smile adorning his lips. It's really like the young executive I once had in my shadow. But one that does not change, his smile still contains magic.
"Next week maybe the progress of aviary development and the foundation office is almost complete. We'll review together."
"On recruitment?"
"All those hoax issues are coordinating with Jim huh. He's the expert."
I'm nodding. In the heart there is a curiosity to ask about the debate with the girl was whether it will affect the work plan of the foundation or not. But rather than getting dizzy thinking about other people's business, I'd rather just crave it. Right now, just go according to plan. If in the middle of the road have to change direction because of this conflict, I just think how to adjust to the situation.
"That was Maudy, her fiancee Mas Bray." Jim told me in a soft voice when Bray had returned to his exclusive office.
I only looked up for a moment to respond to Jim with a smile. Next I went back to learning the microsoft word application to create business letters as exemplified by Jim. I sat down next to Jim. The office clerk put a desk and chair right next to Jim's desk to make it easier for me to learn things from Jim.
"Pretty." My tongue suddenly blurted out that word out of control.
"Bangetpus. I'm an artist. The treatment is expensive, so the skin can be kinclong like a grade A white pearl." Jim laughed while covering his mouth. His behavior looks more graceful than women.
I looked up and smiled at him again.
"Mbak Maudy does not agree with CSR. What would happen if he knew secretly there was a conservation foundation funded by the company. He must be mad at you."
Deg. I was flinched but trying to act normal. "If what do you think of Jim's brother?"
"Not how, Fif. This is an initiative of Mas Bray so that the company's position as a green company is stronger because it is supported by authentic evidence that companies care about human rights, the environment, and carry out post-mining reclamation well."
"That means Fifa and the foundation will only be used as tools in this case huh, sister?"
"I didn't say that, Fifa. Don't think that. Small people like us are important to work well and correctly. Don't think about big people's intrigue. Dingy. Stress it out."
"Again." I'll give Jim a thumb.
Jim smiled broadly.
"While I think it is wasteful, Maudy. Since Bray settled here, he often really back and forth here. Here he does not work anything. Each here take a business plane or rent a private plane to Ternate, then rent a helicopter to get here. The bill is asking the company to pay. She also often asked to be paid for fashion bills, branded bags and expensive beauty care costs."
Geez, it turns out that Bray's secretary is a crumpled person as well as mama mama kampung. He showed one example of proof of a helicopter rental bill that will be sent to the finance division in a plastic folder that reads 'finance'. Fantastic amount. It takes about 5-6 cows to pay for a trip. Jim I thought of it as radio. His voice is quite entertaining.
"If Bray were simple. We often eat in the cafeteria with us. The clothes are not too expensive."
Did ya? I don't know Bray very well, but I've heard Arfa eat with the subsidiary owners of the company in the cafeteria.
With a glance I noticed Jim's nimble gestures. Although while babbling but Jim still working deftly. Lifting the phone, preparing files up to organizing people can be done neatly in between small talk about the boss.
