Chapter 25

Melly has known Miko since she was in the fifth grade of Elementary School, because Miko is also a Junior High with Ghevin and Miko often playing to her house. Despite years of knowing her, Melly can't like her more than just a friend. Melly had only known Tristan for about two weeks, but she liked it. That really doesn't make any sense.

Melly turned to Rani with a gamang. "Gue can't like Tristan" he said. "That can't happen."

"Why can't you?" ask Rani.

Melly couldn't believe Rani asked that. Maybe he was just pretending to be stupid because Melly was sure he knew the obvious reason.

"He doesn't like me" Melly replied. "She just thinks of me as her boyfriend. Plus, as far as he knows, I'm Kak Miko's girlfriend."

"So you don't feel like him because you know, you're just gonna get heartbroken?" guess Rani.

"Obviously, right?" reply Melly. "I really like him, my feelings will not be different."

"Don't know, ah," said Rani. "Where do you know your feelings won't work? Are you sure he doesn't like you? That's your guess."

"But it's obvious, Ran," said Melly in self-defense.

"Who said? I don't see it like that," said Rani casually. "Lo can only like him when he is evil. Do you think the same thing can't happen to her?"

Rani's right. The possibility of Tristan liking Melly makes her hopes soar. That made him no longer able to deny his feelings for Tristan. His feelings did grow rapidly, as well as under strange conditions, but it did.

"Congratulations, Mell," said Rani teasing him, because without realizing Melly was smiling herself.

Melly was embarrassed. "Why are you congratulating me?"

"Because finally there are also guys that you like," said Rani. "I'm the only one who feels the same way about Kak Ghevin."

"Ouch... Ghevins. I can forget about him, yes. What if he finds out I like Tristan? Die to me! Bodo very much, I think again about it." Inner Melly.

When Melly came to Tristan in the cafeteria at break time, it was not as usual for her heart to beat so hard. He hoped that Tristan was unaware of the change in his attitude.

"Melly," Tristan said suddenly after she placed her ordered food in front of him. "Gue's been thinking about the consequences that I talked to you yesterday."

"You want to be free from punishment, you have to do one thing" Tristan said.

"Do what?" ask Melly waswas.

Tristan was silent for a moment, then said, "Gue wants you to end your relationship with Miko."

"Last time I said with Rani, as far as I know her I'm Kak Miko's girlfriend. Now he wants to cave mutusin Miko. I don't understand why he asked me to do it, lest he didn't want me to have a girlfriend so he could have me completely."

Crazy indeed! Melly wanted Tristan to like her so much that she could think that way.

"Where?" tristan asked, after a long time Melly said nothing. "Fair, right? Lo was convicted of dating Miko. If you want to be free from punishment, you have to break up from him."

"But I can't ask to break up so soon" Melly said.

"Why can't it?" challenge Tristan.

Yeah, why can't you? Miko is not Melly's real boyfriend. It would be easy for him to tell Miko to end their pretend relationship. That way, Melly will be able to get closer to Tristan.

But, it was too cruel for Miko. If Melly ended it now, she would definitely link it to the incident at the meatballs shop last night. She'd think Melly wanted to stay away from her because she knew how she felt. Well then, maybe Melly will lose Miko as her friend.

"Gue used to talk to her" said Melly at last.

"What else to talk about" said Tristan. "Lo is in control. End the relationship and don't care about her anymore."

There's no way Melly doesn't care about Miko. Although she half-dead wants to be free from punishment, Melly wants to do that without hurting Miko. There seems to be no other way for Melly than to lie to Tristan.

And then finally, Melly tells Tristan that she will fulfill her request, although she secretly maintains her pretended relationship with Miko. She was sure they would be equally clueless, so Melly felt safe.
