The Assassin and The Blind Saint

The Assassin and The Blind Saint
Arc 3 Chapter 13: Dating (2)

[Silene PoV]

Geck! Geck! Geck!

"Dad, it's I—Serena."

Yesterday, Dad suddenly wanted to talk to me about something. Is it about my marriage? Just thinking about it made my head hurt.

"Come in, Serena."

Opening the door of the room, I saw my father writing something on a piece of paper. It seemed like there was still a lot of work that he had to finish today.

"Sit down, I want to talk about your marriage, Serena."

As expected, pulling up the chair beside me, I sat in front of Dad who looked serious for the conversation this time.

"Duke Penrose will be your fiance from tomorrow" said Dad flatly.

A penrose? I haven't seen him in a long time. She always tried to follow me and Jerold when we were kids I think I last saw her on Jerold's funeral day

"Dad, I'm tid—"

"I've given you time, Serena. In a few days, the hero Trial will be over and the Saint's entourage will be back the next day," he cut.

Hearing her words made me clench my hands. Why do I have to have this forced marriage?

"Serena, did you find out about the condition of our territory in Duchy Ritterburg?"

"Yes, the economy of our region is in a bad state because of the outbreak that occurred some time ago."

Why did you suddenly ask that? Did something worse happen there? If not wrong, Duchy Ritterburg is in a period of recovery that will return to normal in 3 years.

"Duke Penrose will give you 300,000 Golling for your wedding dowry, Serena."

Hearing this huge amount, it made me a little surprised. With that kind of money, we don't have to wait three years to recover Duchy Ritterburg.

"Take your duties and responsibilities as a Ritterburg, Serena."

Hearing Father's words, I could only bow silently.

The next day, I got up from the bed walking into a mirror. Today, I'm going on a date with her. I don't know why yesterday all of a sudden it came out of my mouth.

Could it be that seeing his expression that Down looked after completing the mission with enough casualties made me want to comfort him? I don't understand at all.

"My hair is too long... "

Geck! Geck! Geck!

"Lady Serena, the water is ready if you want to clean up now."

"Rosetta, can you come here for a second."

I asked for my service to cut my hair around a boat. Do you prefer shorter hair or longer hair? I don't know at all.

After I finished cleaning, I looked in the mirror.

After replacing my Skirt with a longer one, I then walked out of the house to meet him in the City square.

When was the last time I went out with a guy like this...? I guess with Jerold when we visited the Capital first.

The atmosphere of Wien City looks very crowded, the city streets are filled with pedestrians. The noise of the sellers and the chatter of the citizens who were mixed made the City very lively.

Seeing the state of this safe and peaceful city makes our efforts lately to eradicate crime feel fruitful.

Upon arriving at the Square, I saw Sirius standing in front of the Fountain. He wears a white shirt with a bretel belt and black pants.

I walked up to him, his face looking a little surprised when he realized my arrival.

Hearing his words, I reflexively played my hair. "Hows it? Does it look right for me?"

"Of course Chief, you always look impressive" he replied with a smile in response to my question.

"Well...Let's get breakfast to start this activity," I asked.

We then walked side by side, seeing the men and women around us holding hands, I somehow reflexively saw Sirius' hand.

"What's up, Chief?"

Hearing Sirius' question, I just shook my head to respond.

After walking for a while, we arrived at a place to eat that was quite popular with women. There are also street performers who perform to entertain the people who visit here.

I ordered an Egg Benedict for Sirius. But for some reason, suddenly his face looks gloomy like he is experiencing PTSD.

"What's up, Sirius? Don't you like this food?"

"A-ah no, Chief. I've only been remembering things lately" he answered, avoiding my question. "I think I've come to have breakfast here with someone."

Was he still thinking about the number of members who had died due to the previous mission?

"Is that so? Who was the one who brought you here?"

Hearing my question, Sirius fell silent for a moment. "His name is Mirela—Daughter of one of the members of Dewan—Mr Radolf, she died some time ago because of the rebels" Sirius said.

I think he still blames himself for failing to protect Radolf's family. Why was he thinking too much about the things that had already passed? Huh... Seeing her moody like this somehow pisses me off.

"Lately my mood has been bad you know." I'm trying to switch the conversation.

Hearing my words, Sirius tilted his head in confusion.

"What about the drug trafficking case, Chief? Didn't you arrest their couriers in the lower district?"

"It's not about work, it's about my marriage."

I then told Sirius about my meeting with Dad. And tell me who Penrose really is none other than a childhood friend who was always obsessed with me.

I asked Sirius out on a date to cheer him up, why is he now the one who should listen to the matter that is bothering me...

After breakfast, we walked to the park. As we passed through the alleys of the City, we saw two teenagers who were seen bullying one child from a distance.

"Hey Angelo! If you don't get back into our gang, you'll get in trouble you know!" snapped one of the teenagers while holding the child's collar.

"I will not follow your orders anymore! Get out of front of me!" The little boy revolted to remove the teen's grip from the collar of his shirt.

The teenager looked very upset and then tried to punch the boy. However, the little boy was able to avoid making the teenager's fist hit the wall.

"Armghhh!" the teenager screamed while holding his right hand.

"Don't run away boy!" his partner was seen chasing the little boy.

Out of my expectations, the little boy turned around not escaping from two opponents that were much bigger than him. He then avoided the teenager's fist well.

The teenager then slid a fist wide, the boy dodged again and then took a hard kick towards the teenager's heel, making him fall very hard to the ground.

"Damn you!" The teenager whose hand was in pain punched the wall and then ran towards the boy.

The little boy did not look panicked and then again avoided the fist directed at him. He then kicked the teenager's shins making him fall on his partner who was lying on the ground.

"Ha! That's why you have to train your footwork!" After shouting those words, the boy then fled leaving behind two teenagers who looked hard to get up.

The little boy was extremely talented, although both his opponents had larger and stronger bodies, he managed to defeat them relying on the momentum and strength of his own two enemies.

I then glanced at Sirius, seeing that he was smiling. L'm... I saw him smile for the first time like that. His smile was like that of Uncle Georgy when I first managed to land an attack on him while we were training.

If you recall, the child was very similar to the child Sirius helped when he was caught trying to steal at the Festival some time ago.
