Arc 1 Chapter 12: The Witch

After the storm stopped, Lena and I went back on our way. For the time being, I was sitting reading one of my books to find out the position of our existence in this valley. We were at an intersection formed from a cliff-slit.

I then looked at Lena who was sitting a little further away than usual. Strange as it is, he is always near me. What the hell is going on?

When there was a storm some time ago, Lena shivered and her body felt extremely cold. I realized that and hugged her so that her body remained warm by dividing our body heat. The procedure is very common if a person travels under such conditions.

I closed my book and said to Lena.

“At the time to go back to running Lena. I already knew which way to take.”

“Y-yes, I understand Sirius,” he replied in a somewhat quiet voice and head bowed.

We walked down the crevices - the high cliff crevices in this valley. For a while, we were lucky not to encounter some of the inhabitants of this valley. Although this place is very unsuitable to live in, however, this place is very suitable to hide because of its geographical circumstances.

The average person who inhabits this place is a criminal who has a fugitive for his head and a human being who is not accepted by society like Arbil I saw before.

After walking long enough down this cliff gap, we were finally able to get out. The valley environment we were in was very different from when we first entered. By the time we entered, most of the environmental conditions were rocks and high cliffs.

Right now, we see a vast expanse of sloping land with some trees. This meant that we were already in the middle of the Black Dread Valley. In this area, the fog was also not too thick and I could see a bit further.

“Si-Sirius, where are we now? I think I feel a different air compared to when we walked down this valley before,“ said Lena who arrived - suddenly speaking after being silent.

“Yes, we're halfway down this valley. I think this square will be easier for us to walk than the previous one.”

We walked back so that the next day we could get out of the Valley. We entered an area with lots of trees in it.

I then heard a faint – voice asking for help and from his voice, I guess he was a little boy.

“Si-Sirus, did you hear that too? I think there's a little kid in distress not far from here!” Lena.

“Don't be too rash to draw Lena's conclusions. In this place, the voice asking for help can be a trap,” I said. “Not a few travelers are fooled about it,” added me.

“Ta-but, how it turns out it is indeed a child who is in need of help,” reply Lena. This time he did not speak while bowed down again like the one before.

“Hahhh... Alright, I'll check it out for a while.”

I turned around and walked towards the sound I heard. I then heard the sound of Lena footsteps following me. I turned around and said.

“You just wait here Lena.”

“Ti-can't I come with you Sirius?” ask Lena in a soft voice.

I turned back and said.

“Alright, but try not to make too much noise,” my instructions to him.

“Ummm.”

We then started walking back. After the shout earlier, the atmosphere of this plain again became silent.

After a few moments of walking, I stopped.

“Lena, you wait here for a moment. I feel something up ahead there,” my orders.

“Good.”

I then walked forward and stopped beside a tree covered by a bush. In front of me was a rather large tree than the others and I saw two small children who were bound by one of the big tree trunks.

I then faintly saw a symbol that was on their cheeks.

Could it be that it was a curse mark of Child of Destruction? They are no different from an Arbil. A human being with special powers. The children who have the symbol have a very strong kinetic magic power.

“Did Sirius find anything?”

I heard Lena's voice from behind.

“Yes, did Lena find out about the Cursed Child? ” my.

“I think I've heard stories about them,” replied Lena who came to me.

“In this world there are children who are blessed by the Goddess and there are also those who are chosen by the Demon God. Those who are blessed by the Goddess are called Fortune Child. While the child chosen by the Demon God is called Cursed Child ,”, I explained. “Fortune Child they bring a lot of blessings to the surroundings. On the contrary with Cursed Child, they are ruining everything around him,”.

“So, the child who shouted earlier was..”.

“Ya, one of the Cursed Child, Child of Destruction,” I told Lena.

“How are they doing?” ask Lena.

“They are tied to a tree and unconscious,”.

I saw Lena clenching her hands and bowing.

“How do the priests of the Temple of the Goddess Athena look at the Cursed Child, Lena?” ask him if I know the answer.

“If we can't kill, get away from them,” Lena replied in a trembling voice.

“Then, what should we do?” my many.

Lena then fell silent and slowly raised her face.

“But! I believe that we can't ignore them because of circumstances that they have absolutely no control over! “ says Lena firmly. “For that please Sirius, if you can help them, even if only a little help.” His voice stopped because it held overflowing emotions in him.

I think it is very difficult for Lena who has a heart as good as that in the face of the bitter reality of human life. He who wants to change the world for the better even a little bit, but he has no power to do that.

“Alright, I'll do something, You just wait here, I'm not sure we're the only ones in the area around here.”

“Te-thank you Sirius.”

I then used Featherstep to approach the two children. Looking at their similar faces, I think they are twin brothers and sisters.

I then checked the tree trunk ties that were wrapped around their bodies and realized something. Damnit damnit! This is a magical bond of a Witch. I felt a presence behind me and turned around.

Right in front of me, a woman with a dark aura around her was glaring at me. I reflexively took Baselard to prepare for the fight.

“Ah, what does a damned ex like you do here?” ask the Witch.

I did not answer him but analyzed the combat capabilities he had.

“Are you going to steal my research rabbit oh you who have been freed from the curse of the Demon God?” ask him while looking to do something with his fingers.

I was still silent about not answering his question at all. What must be watched out for from a Witch is, its ability to issue curse magic.

“Just shut up it turns out. Then, DIE!” He raised his hand towards me then two tree roots appeared from within the ground and both of them shot towards me.

SWOSSHH! SWOSSSHHH !!

I dodged his attack by jumping to the side.

Another large tree root from the ground shot towards me. I avoided it by jumping back.

Our distance is getting further away which puts me in a bad state.

What tree roots can he use? Damnit damnit!!

Swosh !! Swosh !!

I could only run to the side dodging his attack so that my distance from him would not be even greater.

Swoshhh !! Swossshh !!

Those roots came back to attack me. This time, the three of them started attacking me simultaneously.

I jumped out of the root attack and climbed it. I then ran towards the Witch who was playing her fingers. I felt from beside one of his roots about to attack me.

I then focused my mana on both of my legs and jumped when one of the roots attacked me who was running towards the Witch.

My jump became stronger thanks to the propulsion magic. I then prepared to swing Baselard to slash the Witch but I saw the Witch grinning at me.

Ghrrrhuuu !!!

A root appeared beneath me out of the ground and caught my foot.

“I caught you fufufu,” he said while laughing mischievously.

The root then swung me in the air and slammed me to the ground.

“Aghhhh!" I shouted in pain as it hit the ground hard enough.

“Why do you want to free those damned children ‘hah!?” tanyanya while playing her finger back.

The root that binds my feet and then rises up which makes me hang in the air. I saw the other three roots starting to get back ready to attack me.

“Do you sympathize with the destiny that befalls humans - humans of your kind ‘hah!?”

I then concentrated my mana onto Baselard activating a magic sword to cut through the hard roots wrapped around my feet.

"It should, as a person freed from his curse, you have no such sympathy!! Just die!!!"

the three roots then started to shoot towards me. I then as quickly as possible tried to cut off the roots wrapped around my feet.

SLASS !!!

I then fell and avoided the attack of the roots.

If I was a little late, I might have been torn to shreds by his attack.

“Hehhhh... You can cut my magic as it turns out,” he said a little surprised.

I then grabbed my pocket and took an object as big as my hand. I then saw that the Witch began to be enveloped in a dark aura. I think he's activated one of his magic whatever it is. He then started moving his fingers again.

The roots came back to me but the color and size were blacker and bigger.

The clangg!!!

I tried to slash the root but it was unbroken and was able to strike my chest which made me bounce.

“Ughhhhh!”

The witch then began to move her hand. I saw the roots go faster than usual.

Swosshhhh! Swosshhhh!

I can avoid his attack by the margin of a hair.

The witch still had not cast her curse magic during this battle.what made her hold it?

I don't have any more time, I have to kill him now because my mana will run out first compared to that Witch.

I threw the thing I took. One of the roots then destroyed it. Soon a light appeared in the air right where it was destroyed.

“Hmmm... I thought it was an explosive object, it was only samp—“

Stabbbb !!!

I appeared behind him and thrust Baselard into the heart of the Witch.

“Grhhhh! B-how can!?” he asked, turning around, revealing his face of pain and confusion.

“Shadow Link,” I said called the magic I just used.

I pulled Baselard out of his heart and the Witch's body fell to the ground covered in blood.

I checked his body to make sure he was dead.

After being safe, I then approached the two children to check on the condition of the two of them.

“Si-sirius, am I allowed out?”

I then heard Lena's voice from behind the bush.

“Yes, come here Lena.”

Lena then approached me who was in front of the two children.

“It looks like these two kids are under the influence of that Witch magic I fought. That's why they're unconscious now,” I said.

“Magic? What do you mean Sirius? Didn't Sirius beat him earlier?” ask the confused Lena.

Wait, something's weird. That Witch magic should have come off if she was dead. I turned around to check on the Witch's body. Then I saw, the Witch's face grinned and looked at Lena.

“Endless Nightmare!!!!”

I then rushed to push Lena.

“Aghhhh” Lena screaming in surprise.

But too late, that Witch magic hit me. My body began to stiffen and magic symbols began to appear in my hands.

“Hahahahah curse you! Hahahaha!”

The witch laughed in satisfaction and not long after that she died from a great loss of blood.

Damnit damnit! How is he still alive!? I began to slowly lose my function and my vision began to blur.

“Le-lena.”

I turned around and looked at Lena.

“La-run.. Keep away from me...”.

After I said it, I then lost my consciousness.
