Chapter 38: Never ask me
Sheng Li chuckled and brought Ying Lili aside. "W-what do you mean? I've never done anything like this. I'm not a thief. I will tell him that he will be given the money tomorrow" whispered Sheng Li.
"He won't believe you. Even if I don't bring jewelry, I'll pay for it through it. Running is the best option if you want to hide her identity," Ying Lili suggested and glanced at the cashier.
The cashier who was the owner of the restaurant started to get suspicious of them. Even though he cut the bills of other customers, he also kept staring at Sheng Li and Ying Lili. He looked to his left where two well-built men sat and gestured to them something.
"Minli, you forgot who I am. I will be considered a thief if I run away from here" whispered Sheng Li.
"Hushu, that man is suspicious of us," Ying Lili replied in a low voice as she saw the restaurant owner gesturing to the two men. Without any further delay, he grabbed Sheng Li's hand and dragged him along with him to get out of the restaurant.
"They're thieves. Catch 'em!!" the restaurant owner announced loudly as he exited the restaurant. Ying Lili ran as fast as she could, telling the people to step aside, holding the hand of Sheng Li who was running behind her.
The two men started chasing Sheng Li & Ying Lili and they joined three more people. Sheng Li looked back and saw the hunters closer to them. The crown prince took the lead, grabbed Ying Lili's hand tightly, and pulled her back. People are out looking at them.
Ying Lili turned her head back and saw the five men still chasing after them. They both turn into an alley famous for buying clothes. Sheng Li turned to the backyard of the silk cloth house along with Ying Lili. Many silk-colored clothes hung on bamboo stems to dry them after washing.
Sheng Li attacked them with his hands and moved forward as he looked at the end wall there with a small space that could be used to hide for some time. He turned to look at removing the conical veil cap from Ying Lili's head and threw it away. The two were panting as Sheng Li led him into that small narrow space. Pushing Ying Lili inside, she also entered and covered Ying Lili's mouth with her right palm. From his left hand, he took out a dagger.
Their intense eye locks were broken when they heard, "They are not here. Let's look the other way." Sheng Li slightly shifted his head to the left to look at them and then pulled back. Those people have gone from there. Sheng Li had lowered his palm from Ying Lili's mouth and heaved a sigh of relief as Ying Lili told him to step aside.
Sheng Li glared at Ying Lili and returned his dagger. "Don't look at me like that. It's your fault you didn't bring money. At least, I helped you escape from there, otherwise we should wash the equipment there," Ying Lili said.
"Do you blame this on me?" Sheng Li cluckily asked.
Ying Lili averted her gaze from him, not replying to him. "I will teach you a good lesson once we arrive at the Palace," Sheng Li threatened him and started walking. Ying Lili looked for her hat and asked Sheng Li. "I threw it to the other side. Don't wear it because it will attract unwanted attention and follow me. We should leave as soon as possible," Sheng Li insisted and walked forward. Ying Lili followed him.
As soon as they came out of the cloth market, they turned to the mountain hill path from where they came to the market. As they walked, Sheng Li saw Ying Lili stopping to watch a local street drama. He turned to Sheng Li with sparkling eyes. "Let's watch this street drama before you return" Ying Lili asked.
Sheng Li nodded and the two walked over to it. "What are they doing?" Sheng Li muttered as he heard the announcer. "Lords and ladies, today we will show you how the crown prince fell in love with the crown princess." Sheng Li furrowed his brows. "How can you say that?" Sheng Li angrily said but thanks to the loud sound of the drums no one heard him.
"It's upsetting. Let's go," Sheng Li said and turned to leave as Ying Lili grabbed Sheng Li's wrist. "It's just a drama. People enjoy things like that. We will watch it," said Ying Lili softly with a small smile on her lips.
After the drama ended, everyone applauded for them. "Let's go," Sheng Li said to the nodding Ying Lili and the two left the market. They reached the hut after spending two hours in the market. Ying Lili saw Sheng Li getting annoyed at her. "Hushu, thanks to you, I feel refreshed today, and forgive me for bothering you there. You can ask anything of me and I will fulfill your wish of it," Ying Lili told Sheng Li who turned to look at her.
"Never ask me to go to the market" Sheng Li said angrily as General Xiao came to them. "Your Majesty, Prince Wanxi has returned to the Palace. As for Hu Jingguo, he was transferred to a safe place," General Xiao reported to the crown prince who nodded. "Let's go back to the Palace," Sheng Li said in a commanding tone. Xiao observed the anger on the crown prince's face but he refrained from asking the reason.
