Chapter 3: I don't like wild cats
Sheng Li turned to leave as Song Wai knelt down. "Your Majesty, take my daughter to Han Capital with respect. I beg you," Song Wai said with his head bowed.
"Father," Ying Lili muttered and clenched her fists furiously.
"It is my boon to you that I did not kill you and this imperial land did not turn into a place of mourning. Indeed, I carried it with me respectfully," Sheng Li uttered and looked at General Wang who understood the crown prince ordering.
Sheng Li leaped onto the horse and continued to stare at Ying Lili who had averted her gaze from it. Ying Lili made her father stand up and told her not to worry about anything since everything was fine. General Wang lowered his head in front of Yenay and spoke, "Your Majesty, please follow me."
Ying Lili turned to look at him and nodded. Chou Mei hugged her daughter tightly and stroked her hair. "An Lili, forgive your mother for not being able to do anything" Cho Mei complained.
"Jaga yourself. Don't worry about me, and you've done more than enough for me" Ying Lili said as she pulled away from him. He looked at his father who was also crying looking at all this. "Dad, you are a great king. I will never let you down," Ying Lili said. Song Wai patted his daughter's head.
"Your Majesty," General Wang told Yenay, his eyes still lowered. Ying Lili stepped forward, exiting the gate of the imperial palace. He walked past Sheng Li who was riding a horse and got into the palanquin. Eight sedan lifters lifting stretchers.
"Emperor Han has sent some gifts to King Song. From today onwards, we are allies with marital relations" General Wang said. Song Wai accepted it by lowering her head again.
Sheng Li turned his horse and walked out of their sight followed by a stretcher. Ying Lili stared at her parents one last time through the curtains. Tears formed in his eyes as he lost sight of his parents. General Wang, on the other hand, stayed there until every gift was given to King Juyan.
"Your Majesty, are we going to stay outside Juyan for a day or are we going to continue our journey to the capital?" General Xiao asked who was beside him on the horse.
"We're not going to stay here. The military campaign is over, so we have to return to the capital as soon as possible" Sheng Li said. "Elevate the resting place and follow us to the capital," Sheng Li ordered him. General Xiao agreed and on his horse turned to the resting place.
After a while, General Wang caught them. "Your Majesty, you should be lenient there," he said.
"I'm tolerant, that's why no one died today" Sheng Li said.
"There's something Your Majesty should know," General Wang spoke further.
"Hmm. speak," Sheng Li allowed it.
"After you leave from there, someone shoots an arrow aimed at King Song. He is no more," General Wang uttered.
A frown appeared on Sheng Li's forehead. "Did you catch him?" Sheng Li asked with raised eyebrows.
"Indeed, I caught him, but he drank the poison from the ring he was wearing. I can't get the name of the person who did this" General Wang told Sheng Li.
"In addition to his brother no one dares to do this," Sheng Li said and sneered.
"Your Majesty, what about the Princess? He must know about this," General Wang confirmed.
"No. I will tell the princess when we will reach the capital," Sheng Li said.
"Is it not too late? Forgive me for saying this, but your relationship can be sullied with the princess, which is not good" General Wang argued.
"Are you worried about me or him? It seems like you are fascinated by her beauty," Sheng Li said and chuckled.
“Your Majesty, I dare not look at the Crown Prince's woman. I'm just worried about you because if the princess finds out about this later, she'll probably blame the crown prince. The Emperor will probably be angry with you. So, we will pay our respects to the late King Juyan." General Wang tried to make Sheng Li understand.
"Your Majesty, so you won't tell the princess about this?" General Wang curiously asked.
"Wang, you forced me to tell him. I have to go back again," Sheng Li said with a displeased expression. "OK, we will return to the imperial Juyan Palace," Sheng Li insisted.
"Your Majesty, first of all you have to tell the princess," Wang Hao said. Sheng Li nodded and stopped with his horse. He jumped down from the horse and turned around. Ying Lili was confused when the stretcher was stopped. He tried to peek when he realized that the stretcher had been laid.
Before he could see out, Sheng Li looked inside by putting away the curtains. Ying Lili was surprised to see him and averted her gaze from him. The next second, Sheng Li walked into the stretcher.
"Put everything back," Ying Lili heard General Wang's order.
Sheng Li placed his index finger under Ying Lili's chin and made her look at him. "When I'm gonna be in front of you, always look me in the eye. Understood?" Sheng Li stated with raised eyebrows.
Ying Lili shook her head in agreement and slapped Sheng Li's hand. "And, you mustn't touch me without my permission," Ying Lili snapped at the chuckling Sheng Li as she pulled her hand back.
"I don't like wild cats. All right, don't start our fight. There is something you should know," Sheng Li confirmed as he looked into Ying Lili's eyes.
"Speak quickly," Ying Lili said firmly.
"Your father is dead. Someone shot him an arrow. General Wang just told me," Sheng Li said. Ying Lili's eyes were filled with tears. "This can't possibly be true," Ying Lili said. His voice broke as tears flowed in his eyes.
"Do you think I'm going to lie to you about this?" Sheng Li asked.
Ying Lili pushed Sheng Li aside, trying to get out of the stretcher when Sheng Li grabbed his arm and stopped him. "Leave me," Ying Lili said with a sharp look.
"I'd love to but you can't go there on foot" Sheng Li said.
"Leave me. You killed him, didn't you?" Ying Lili asked and wiped the tears from the back of her palm using another hand.
"I didn't kill the man behind them. Moreover, I wasn't even there, so how could I kill him? If our relationship is good enough, I'll probably tell you who killed your father. The shooter's dead because he took poison right after your father died. So, General Wang was unable to reach him," Sheng Li explained to Yenay.
"You want me to believe your lies? Leave my hand if you don't want to be killed by me" Ying Lili shouted at him.
Sheng Li slightly laughed as he was the first to speak to her in such a way when he saw Ying Lili almost pull out the dagger she had hidden in her belt. He pointed it at Sheng Li, but he grabbed it. With a murderous gaze, Sheng Li spoke. "Try doing this and you'll be killed here along with the remaining members of your family."
Ying Lili swallowed her anger. "My general is enough to eliminate your entire family if you ever try this," Sheng Li threatened Ying Lili. "I wanted to take you to meet your father, but now I'm changing my mind. We don't-"
"I'm sorry," Ying Lili cut off the crown prince's words as tears flowed back in her eyes. "Let me meet my father one last time" Ying Lili said to Sheng Li. Sheng Li looked at his watery eyes as he felt a bit strange.
Soon, he got out of the stretcher. "We will return to the Juyan Imperial Palace," he ordered. Everyone agreed with that by bowing their heads.
Sheng Li jumped on his horse again and returned to the same route. "Tell Xiao Zhan to continue the journey to the capital," Sheng Li ordered Wang Hao who told a soldier about the same. The soldier went to the resting place.
"Your Majesty, we should stay there for at least a day," Wang Hao suggested.
"We'll go at night. I'm not going there, so princess is your responsibility. I'll meet you at night," Sheng Li said to Wang Hao.
Wang Hao was confused after hearing that. "Is His Majesty planning to find the culprit?" Wang Hao questioned Sheng Li, but he did not give any answers.
