“Do not-do it just a lie!” celt Alpha suddenly.
The call shocked everyone. Attention was immediately drawn to the mixed youth.
“If this is true is a talisman necklace then it should be lighted only if the user will be in danger. Surprisingly this necklace is only carelessly at any time. So, of course, this is not a talisman necklace as the trade group said, but just an ordinary necklace with unique materials,” he continued.
“Ya....” replied Deimos sounding relieved.
“Deimos,” call Mr. Sinope, “you said your parents were protecting the necklace desperately, but it turns out it wasn't that special. Is it okay if you think of it that way?”
Deimos has a lethargic face. “It's okay, Mister, the most important thing is the memories of being with them,”. He looked down and put his necklace back in his shirt. After looking up he smiled broadly at Alpha-Ursa. “You guys are going to help at this stables, right? Come on, help me put your horses in the stables!” he pushed both of their shoulders.
They also took horses to the stables. After they finished putting all the horses into the stables they did not immediately go back out. There's something to talk about.
“You are also from Mayall Village?”
“We are Guardian.” Alpha showed me his dagger. And Ursa too. “You're alone? Or is there someone with you?”
“I'm alone. My family and I were separated from the group when we escaped from the ramplite pursuit. They died except me. I finally got to this town and met Mr. Sinope. He has taken care of me and looked after me for two years,” Deimos.
“I'm so sorry,” said Ursa.
“That's an old story,” reply. “I'm curious. Why are you even with Earth Country warriors? You guys didn't betray, did you?”
Alpha shakes firmly. “Of course not! We are their captives, that is how it is in short.”
“Despite that we are still siding with Mayall Village. We are loyal,” added Ursa.
“Thankfully. I'm relieved. I thought you guys used that crystal necklace to arrest the residents.”
“Of course not,” replied Alpha. “Deimos, right? It looks like you're our age, but I don't feel like I've seen you in the village academy.”
“Because I didn't go to the academy. I'm just a normal human being. And I had no interest in being strong, so I spent my time taking care of our vegetable garden instead of going to the academy.”
“Call it.”
Ursa spoke, “Omong-by the way, do you know where our village people go?”
Deimos. “No. Sometimes I find my necklace glowing, unfortunately I never met our villagers while I was here. So, I don't know where all the residents are going.”
“Ke near—”
“Deimos!” Mr. Sinope shouted loudly from outside.
“Looks like we should be back soon,” Deimos said. They also came out of the horse stable. “What's up, Mister?”
“Why were you long in there?”
“I explained something they asked,” he answered a lie.
“Oh. All right,” murmured Mr. Sinope. “Please take them looking for cheap lodging. After that call the doctor to check on Sir Okul.” colleagues
“Good,” replied Deimos obediently. “Mari, Sir.”
Led by Deimos, they entered the city deeper. The young man led them to an inn that had a pretty decent outside look. Okul had worried in case the rent was expensive, but Deimos assured that it was the cheapest lodging.
After getting the room they immediately let Algol rest. Diphda treated his captain with his perfunctory abilities. He compresses the man with cold water, also giving him an herbal drink ordered to the innkeeper, hoping that his actions will have an effect.
“Then, sir, I'm willing to find a doctor.” Deimos says.
“Wait, Deimos. I'm coming,” Sergeant Algol.
They also left. Without making Algol wait for long, Okul and Deimos return in a while with an old doctor. The doctor examined Algol. He said that the heat was caused by his internal wounds that had not recovered properly.
“Doing a heavy and long journey when your wounds have not healed, you are really..” The doctor did not finish his words. Just shaking his guard. “Do not challenge a soldier then can be arbitrary to your own body. This is what always makes soldiers die in bed instead of on the battlefield.”
Algol laughed flatly at the grunts. He can't complain.
“Thank God you got good handling before, if not how bad your body is now. For now you don't have to worry. With the prescription medicine I gave you and enough rest for a few days you will be able to resume your journey. But, to be cured you need quite a long time.”
“How long?” ask Algol.
The doctor approached Algol who was lying down. He pressed on one part of Algol's body, making the man groan in unrelenting pain. “Until the moment this part does not hurt anymore if pressed then you recover completely.”
“Y-yes...! All right, I get it.” Algol took the doctor's hand off him. He stroked the place with a face of pain.
“This is the prescription. You can get it anywhere in the drugstore of this city,” said the doctor as he held out a piece of paper.
Okul. He gave the doctor some money and did not forget to thank him very much. The doctor left them.
Deimos who felt his existence was no longer needed decided to leave. “I'll be back to stables. For the two of you,” he said to Alpha and Ursa, “come early in the morning. Don't be late.”
“Good.”
“OK!”
Deimos approached Algol. “Goodnight. May you be well soon, Sir.”
“Yes. Thank you for your help.”
...***...
As promised, Alpha and Ursa actually came to the stables early in the morning. Indeed, from the beginning they did not have the intention to be negligent of their duties. There are a lot of things they want to talk about with Deimos.
“I want to know how you guys escaped,” Ursa said as she continued to rub the back of the horse she bathed.
“You know about the passageway to the secret tunnel?”
“Yes. Actually how many lines branch?” ask Ursa again.
“From the gathered center there are four lines. Each of the four paths split into five. Of the five paths each split again into three.”
Alpha counting. “Sixty?!” shocks surprised.
“Great. They can make that many paths without anyone knowing,” Ursa muttered. “And where is the end of the tunnel?”
“I don't know. It seems that every place is different,” replied Deimos. He removed the rope that held the horse and moved it to a hot spot. Then he brought a horse back to bathe. “How about you guys? Has it saved many residents?”
Alpha shook his head while trying to hold the head of the horse he was managing. He had trouble keeping the horse still so that his teeth could be brushed easily. Deimos approached him and showed him the right way.
“So, you guys have never saved a resident at all?”
“That's. We have only met a group of residents once,” Ursa replied before going to sun the horse she bathed. He returned with a new horse. “Suffering, right? Though we are a Guardian.”
“You guys are taken prisoner, so I can understand,” Deimos replied.
“The entourage told us where the destination of our villagers was. Namely in—”
“Ah! No need to tell me!” exclaim Deimos fast.
Alpha and Ursa looked at each other in confusion.
“What's up?” Ursa asked carefully.
Without looking at the two and focusing more on the horse he was bathed in Deimos replied, “I may not be interested in going to that place.”
“EEh?!” Alpha's shocked.
“After my parents were killed by the ramplite I tried to survive alone. I was desperate not to meet another group. Starving. Terrified. Anxiety. It filled me to the point of making me think I'd rather die. Then, Mr. Sinope found me. He and his wife were very nice to me. They didn't ask much about my origins and accepted me as their own son.”
Deimos stopped rubbing his horse's back. He turned to face Alpha and Ursa. With a shady look he spoke again.
“They made me feel the warmth of a family. Our relationship is very close. This place has made me comfortable, I don't want to leave here, so you don't need to tell me where our villagers are going because it will only shake my resolve.”
“Deimos.”
“Is it okay if you choose to be with them over the other villagers? They are people you know not too long ago,” Ursa said.
“Actually, my family and I also recently stayed in Mayall Village. It's only been about four years. Indeed, it was a very comfortable place to live in and we were also happy living there. But to me, it's all just the past. My parents are no longer there. The village was also destroyed.
It's not that I'm disloyal, it's just that my feelings for the village are not as deep as those of you who have lived there since childhood. While here, I get what I've lost. And last night, Mr. Sinope told me that he wanted to leave his beloved stables to me because they had no children. It makes me even less able to leave them.
They might just be people I've known not too long ago, but they've become the most important people in my life right now. Like how I wanted to be considered valuable by them, I did not want to disappoint them either. I want to stay here, that's what I really want the most.” Deimos ended his exposure to his feelings.
Hearing that made Alpha heavy-hearted, but he could do nothing to understand what Deimos was feeling. Although disappointed the young man did not choose his village, Alpha remained breastfed. He nodded in return for what Deimos had told him.
“It's okay. People do come and go,” said Alpha trying to be wise.
“Hey, don't be so grim-faced,” scold Ursa. “You did not betray the village. You choose your own happiness. Nothing to regret, understand?”
“Um, yes. Thank you.”
“By the way, Deimos, why do you still have that magic crystal necklace? I know that what you said yesterday about it was your parents' legacy was a lie,” Alpha said.
Deimos replied, “That's why I can't just take this necklace off. Maybe because of its beauty. Or maybe also because I still hope to meet other residents.”
Ursa flabbergasted. “You made me remember something. Yesterday Mr. Sinope says that if your necklace sometimes glows, it means that there are residents near you, have you never met them?”
“Never,” reply Deimos. “I searched for them, but still couldn't find them. Maybe because they are very careful with their existence, so they very shrewdly disguise themselves with people.”
“Did it happen often?” ask Alpha enthusiastically.
“Sometimes.”
“That means they stop by this city often. It is not impossible that we will also meet them, Alpha.”
Deimos was doubtful of Ursa's conclusion, so he confirmed. “I did say sometimes, but that's not certain. I assume they stopped by here because the city is located on the outskirts. And it wasn't long either.”
Ursa nodded in understanding. He looked at Deimos. “I want to make sure of you something. You don't hate Mayall Village and its inhabitants, do you?”
“Actually I quite like it.”
“Then, if I ask for your help then you want, right?”
“If I can do it,” replied Deimos.
“Mild!” Ursa. “All I ask of you is to protect the people you meet in this city from the soldiers. What I mean to protect is that you don't have to fight for them, but rather just keep them away from the soldiers so as not to get caught.”
Deimos nodded firmly. “Good. Iwill. However, only as much as I can.”
“No problem! That's more than enough!” sahut Ursa happy. “You will be of great help to us, Deimos!”
“Uh, yes. I'm glad I could help.”
