5 Years later...
Today was a very busy day. I thought planning a birthday party for a 5-year-old was just a piece of cake, but it turned out I was wrong. It's one of the biggest events I've ever held. Instead of being a high school teacher, maybe I should be a showmaster because I seem to be doing just that today.
I also feel like I want to kill David right now. It's his fault, I had to go all the way to organize a superhero theme party for a commanding five-year-old.
David's been spoiling his son, Junior so far. Because of him, Junior grew up to be a spoiled child and thought that he could demand anything he wanted and it should be there instantly. It was David's fault, he always gave Junior anything he wanted no matter how big it was. I've been trying to get him to understand that David needs to learn how to say no to Junioe, because if he keeps pampering him like that, one day that kid can't give him what he demands, it would be hell for him.
Today is Junior's 5th birthday, and to celebrate this anniversary, he decided that he wanted a superhero-themed party. This means that all decorations, balloons, cakes, dishes, cups and almost everything should have a superhero on it. Not only does the decor have superheroes on them, but he also wants all his friends to wear different superhero costumes and superhero mascots. I have to mention this to the parents of the children before and those who do not yet have superhero costumes, and I have to provide costumes for them. I'm doing this because it's impossible to expect that this old man should have been looking for money to buy a costume that the kid might never wear again. Money doesn't grow on trees, I know that, but my five-year-old son doesn't and frankly I think he hasn't understood that or cared.
When Junior told us what kind of party he wanted, I was of course the rational one trying to make him understand that maybe some of the things he asked for were a bit too much, but David told me to shut up and tell him we could do that. It's not that I don't want to give our son what he wants or a great birthday party, I just want him to know that it's not everything he says he should get, but David clearly did not understand. He ruined Aleah and Alisa's persona in the same way growing up, and I think he's going to overdo it a little bit with Junior too. Aleah is now twenty years old and Alisa is twelve years old and slowly transformed into a smart and sweet daughter and the last of Junior's bossy children, spoiled and thinking that the world belongs only to her as does her oldest sister. David overindulges our children excessively, asks for this and that, and everything has to be there, I usually have to take care of it. Like this party, David told me to throw a party that day, because he wasn't there. David went to work, while I had to stay home and set things up myself.
By the time everything was set up and in place, it was time to start the party, I was tired, frustrated and ready to go to bed. I wasn't even ready because I was helping others.
"Hi, ma'am." Alisa went into the kitchen. "The guests have started to arrive."
"Good." I breathed sarcastically. "Alisa, I'm not even worthy enough to welcome them."
"You're right. There's flour in your hair and on your face." Alisa laughing.
"I look like a carcass." I groaned as I rubbed my hands on the side of my face.
"I can do it for you and I can get ready." Alisa offers.
"Thank you, but I'm ..."
"Hey baby." David arrived. "See who arrived at the same time as me?"
"Know everything." Aleah appeared behind David. "I'm here."
"Aleah!" Alisa screamed as she ran and hugged her sister.
"Aww Alisa, I miss you so much." Alisa smiled as she hugged her sister tightly.
"Mom." Aleah looked at me with a smile.
Mom is my new nickname for them. It started when Junior was just trying to say his first words. She didn't say ma or mama, just ma, so Aleah and Alisa have started calling me that since then too.
"I didn't know you'd make it." I said to him while hugging him.
"I won't miss my sister's birthday." Aleah replied. "By the way, where's that little rebel."
"He's in the living room with the other kids."
"I want to see him." Aleah smiled. "I have a gift for him."
"I'm coming with you." Aliah said as she followed her sister away.
"No hug for me." David pouting.
"I'm sorry, baby." Said David trying to kiss me.
"I'm mad at you, David."
"Darling, I'm really sorry." David apologized again. "What can I do so that I can make up for it and forgive me?"
"There really is." I told her.
"All right, just mention it."
"You can stay here at the door, and welcome the guests." I said to him.
"What's? Honey, I don't want to do that. I'm still a little sweaty. Maybe after I take a shower and ...."
"I'm sweaty, smelly and tired, but I did everything I had to do today to organize the party you told me to. Now I've been sweating with flour and God knows what else, in my hair and everywhere. The least I can do is hold back for thirty minutes as you greet the other old man while I've become refreshed."
"All right." David sighed and gave me a smile. "Continue."
"Thank you." I pecked his lips. "I love you."
"I love you." David responded.
The party went well and I could tell the kids were having a lot of fun. The Spiderman, batman, and iron man mascots we've hired, of course make their day fun.
"Mom, look." Junior said and ran towards me with some toys in his hands. "Sister Ale bought this for me, Aunt Karin bought this one and uncle bought this one for me too."
"Wow, that's great. Everything is so good." I smiled at him when I saw the toy. "You have a lot of toys."
"I know! This is the best birthday ever!" He screamed before running away with his friends again.
"He's having fun." David smiled at me.
"Yes. I'm glad he's having fun." I'm responding.
"Everyone seems to be having fun. Even adults." David said to me.
“I never thought that,” I chuckled.
The party continued again before mom came and gathered us all in front of the sofa for family photos. He set up the camera then came to stand behind us.
"All right, the camera will take a picture in five seconds. So at the count of 5 everyone says Cisss." Mother said before I started counting. "1, 2, 3,4,5 ...."
"Cisss!!"
We all screamed and grinned like a bunch of fools when the photo was taken. It was these moments that made me happy, I never thought I would have my family and friends fully to celebrate my son's birthday. I am a very lucky woman and I have nothing else to ask for.
