Tonight is a night of disaster for me. I never imagined that me and David would deliver the news of our engagement over dinner, the reaction would be the same as we received. Alisa was overjoyed by the news, of course I expected that. I also expected Aleah to be a little upset about it, but it was the worst we expected. He was angry, screaming, complaining, raging, even crying like he was not happy.
I never knew what I was doing so Aleah hated me so much, but tonight I finally got a good idea. When Aleah was lashing out tonight because of the news of our engagement, I got my answer. Aleah wouldn't have had a problem with me if I hadn't been in contact with David.
After all the rantings, there are some questions I have answered. After losing their mother. Aleah and Alisa became very close to her father. However, Aleah had only felt it since me and David started to get in touch, things had changed between them. Apparently, David and they don't spend as much time together as they used to. Some of the things they used to do as a family didn't happen as much as before and she was worried because of that, the relationship she and her father had, was about to change. Basically, he wanted to get David's attention 100% and I took it from him. One of his friends lives with his father and stepmother who is also a much younger woman and turns out the woman is a witch and materialist. Because of this, she hesitates to accept her father dating a woman who is not her mother because she does not want the same experience as her friend with a cruel stepmother.
Another thing my parents know is that Aleah is still not at peace with the loss of his mother. While her father was still single, she pretended to assume her mother went abroad or visited family, and would return. But seeing her father date another woman, makes it more realistic that her mother actually leaves. Just as Aleah gave me hell right from the start, tonight kind of opened my eyes to see how he felt. David had to practically lift her in his arms, hug her tightly after she finally stopped screaming and screaming. I really felt sorry for her and wondered if we had gotten into the engagement too soon.
Alisa was in the room with me and suddenly David went into the room.
"How is he doing now?" I asked David when he came into the room.
"I've made him calm." David sighed as he sat on the bed.
Alisa got up and climbed onto her lap while wrapping her arms around her neck.
"He'll be fine. We've talked."
"I hope it helps." I told her. "I never knew he'd be this bad."
"So is I." I let out a breath. "This is the first time in years, I've seen him this angry."
"Do you think we're in too much of a hurry on this? "
"No, no, no. What we're doing is right." David said to me.
"Dad?" Ask Alisa. "Is Aleah unhappy with Naomi being our new mother?"
New mom? I never thought like that.
"Don't worry baby, he'll be fine." David said to him.
"I like you Naomi. I'm glad you're gonna be my new mother."
The next morning, I was shocked when Aleah got in the car with me before we left for school. Since she and I don't like each other because of the lipstick, she gets a ride from one of her friends or biking in the back of the car. But this morning he sat in the front seat and actually said good morning when he came in.
"Hi." I'm responding. "Are you ready to go, now?"
"Yes." Yeah." Aleah replied, she was wearing a seatbelt.
"All right." I nodded and then started the car engine. "Are you okay now?"
"I'm fine." That's answer. At least that's progress. Usually he never talks to me.
"I think the engagement surprised you, didn't it?" I said carefully, not wanting her to start getting upset again.
"All right." I'm nodding. "Look at Aleah, I know you don't like me very much but you don't have to hate me like that. I'm not that bad and I'm not at all like your friend's stepmother."
"Can you focus on driving quietly? I really don't want to talk about this." Aleah.
"Yes. This is the only chance I've ever had to seriously talk to you. I know you might not want to talk, but please, I want you to give me one chance to talk to you. " I told him. "I want you to know that I really love your father."
"Naomi, I can see it." Aleah. "I've noticed you've always adored my father."
Whatdoes thatmean?
"Well, then you know that I would never do anything to hurt her or harm our relationship." I said to him. "I heard what you said about your friend's stepmother. And I'm not like him, I'll never be like him. I adore your father and not to mention your sister, Alisa. I'm still trying to get on your good side. I can't tell you that I know what it's like to lose your mother and then see your father with another woman, but I'm sorry about whatever you've been through. I'm not trying to replace your mother, I'm not trying to take over your family. Your father loves you so much and your sister and he will never stop loving you after all. The relationship between your father and you won't change because I came into your family. And I know it's hard to accept the fact that your father's been moved around with other women, but I know that he loves your mother so much, nothing will change that reality. You're old enough to understand things like this, Aleah. If David is happy alone, he will not seek a new relationship. He deserves to be happy Aleah and I try to make him happy every time if I can. It's not that she's related to me, she's really throwing away all the memories of your mother. She will always remember him because he left a piece of her memories here with her. They love Aleah, and I don't think your mother wants her to be unhappy forever, nor does she want you to be good, I know talking like this won't help much and I'm not asking you to think of me as your new mother or anything. I'm just asking you to give me a chance. You can judge me before you even get to know me and I'd really like it if we got along well. If there's a chance that we could be friends, I'd like to try it, but well if you want. I can't force you to accept me if you don't want to, but I hope you'll at least think about it."
"Do I have a choice?" Aleah. "It doesn't matter what I think or want. You and my dad are getting married anyway. I might as well accept it. All my efforts to sabotage your relationship failed."
"Maybe if you stop trying to destroy us and give me a chance, you'll see that I'm not as evil a woman as you think I am. I can be a pretty good person." I said to him.
"You don't have to sell yourself to me, Naomi. Dad did his job well. He's been trying to convince me how perfect you are."
"I'm not perfect. No one is perfect Aleah. We both know that." I told her.
"My dad thinks you should try to convince him that you don't..."
"I don't have to do it. He knows I'm not perfect. He only knows me more than you." I told her. "Aleah, I don't want us to continue like this. We need to get along well for your father. I'm willing to try it, and now it's up to you."
"Whatever." Aleah sighed.
"What does that mean? You want to try or ..."
"All right." Aleah. "Can we stop this conversation now?"
"All right." I'm nodding.
We drove in silence until we reached the block where Aleah usually went down and walked all the way to school.
"Do you want me to stop here?" I asked for a glance.
"No." Aleah.
"No?"
"What use? Everyone will know that you will be with my father in the end."
