Restore Your Smile

Restore Your Smile
New Neighborhood, New Task

Ten minutes passed in silence. James was still maintaining his position with his head lying on the table. He rested his nearly smoky brain. Only his ears were sharpened just in case Miss Reny came back. Wouldn't it be nice if the first meeting made an unpleasant impression?

After almost 15 minutes passed, James' headache began to subside. Miss Reny hasn't come yet. Therefore, James took the initiative to end his break. He recalls the words of dr. Yuri and recorded it in HP. The names of the people, the names of the wards, his duties, as much as he could remember, he recorded.

An hour almost passed. It's 10:50 now. Because there is nothing else he can remember, he tried to fill the time by reading the duties of the Hospital counselor through articles on google.

While engrossed in reading, the door of the room was opened by a woman with an age of about 35-40 years. James turned off his HP and immediately got up from his seat.

"Sir James?" asked the woman while extending her hand an introductory sign.

"Yes, Mom." James answered while welcoming the hand.

"Include, I'm Crisp, "he said with a friendly smile.

After shaking hands, Miss Reny directed James to sit on the sofa. James followed the direction of Miss Reny.

After they sat face to face on the sofa, Miss Reny started the conversation. "I met with dr. Yuri in the ward. He said Mr. James was waiting in this room to be given an explanation of the task. Sorry well, because it has made you wait a bit long, "said the woman.

"What's wrong, ma'am .." James replied with a faint smile.

Miss Crisp smiled with James' attitude. Then he asked her, "If I may know, what dr. Yuri to Mr James?"

James replied, "Doctor Yuri explains the task of general counselors, which is to accompany patients or their families who face special cases. For example, if they face a disease that is difficult to recover or that requires surgery and rehabilitation. For consultation on the disease or treatment, he said he would be explained directly by the Patient Responsible Physician (DPJP) concerned.

I was also invited to go around to the wards and meet with the heads of the room and the heads of the installation which he said would be related to my work. I've already explained about the division of the room based on the patient's class and the type of case. So is the service provided in these installations. But for more details about the division of duties, I was asked to ask directly to Mom."

"good. If it has been explained in such an outline, I just add the small details just yeah ...." Miss Reny concluded.

"So our job is simple. Just like dr. Yuri said, we do psychic assistance if there is a request, either by the DPJP or from patients and their families. Mr. James may also conduct personal assistance if not asked based on conscience. Remember, you have to be wise! Don't make gaps with other patients or cause gossip!

Assistance requests given to us can be orally by his DPJP directly, can also through writing on medical records. Generally the nurse will remind us. So if Mr James is confused, just try to ask the ward nurse who is on duty, is there a patient or his family who needs counseling assistance?

For installations related to our work, do you remember, what installations are introduced dr. Yuri to Mr James?" ask Miss Crispy again.

"Nw .... As I recall, Mom .... NAPZA installations, rehabilitation installations, and psychiatric installations, "James replied as much as he could.

"Yes. Actually, there are many installations in this RSUD. But the opportunity associated with our work is the installation that you mentioned earlier. We are only asked for help if they lack energy. Just like dr. Yuri thought, it's good we also recognize them, because one day we could be working in a team with them," explained Miss Reny.

James mustard a sign of understanding. Then, Miss Reny asked again, "Did Mr. James have worked at the Hospital before?"

"No, Ma. All this time I worked as a BK teacher at SMU, "James replied.

"good. Thank you, Ms. .." welcome James.

Miss Crispy then looked at her watch. "Now it's 11:25. Mr James want to take a look at the employee cafeteria? Has James been given food stamps by the HRD?" tanyakanya.

"G .... It seems like it, Mom. This morning I came to the HRD section, before being invited to meet dr. Yuri, I've been given this. Is this the coupon?" james asked, showing him a piece of paper.

"Rubber. Later Mr. James scissors his own coupon pieces. Every meal, we will give 1 coupon to be exchanged for food. Our rest hours from 12:00 - 13:00. Do you want to go there together, before I share my duties with you?" asked Miss Crispy while smiling witfully.

James is a bit smug. "Yes, Mom. Go to the canteen first. It's always better if we fill our stomachs before work, "James replied.

Miss Reny laughed. "Let's go!" They left the counsellor's room together.

In the cafeteria, James was introduced to some of the nutritionists on duty at the time. The food in RSUD is indeed prepared by them, both employee menus and patient menus. James is grateful so far he was met with colleagues such as Bu Reny who kindly and patiently guided and helped his socialization in the Hospital.

After they had lunch in the employee's canteen, they returned to the counsellor's room. Miss Reny started sharing her duties with James. "Given that this is the first time Mr. James has worked at the Hospital, I will have selected some patients who are cooperative for Mr. James to deal with" he said, opening his personal notebooks.

"Take note yes, sir ... The first patient was a grandfather who just a few days ago had to have his leg amputated due to gangrene due to uncontrolled diabetes (noted: gangrene is the condition of the death of some body tissues due to the tissue does not get enough blood supply from the circulatory system ). His grandfather's name was Grandpa Suroto, 63.

He is currently being treated in the Bakung ward, a surgical ward for Class III patients. The only boy did not notice him, and all this time he was always trying to support himself. Now that he has been amputated, this grandfather is depressed thinking about his next day, how he will work for his life later." James listened while making notes on his HP.

"The second patient was 72-year-old Grandma Farida, who was diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer. The cancer has spread to the lungs. His family refused chemotherapy given the physical condition of the Grandmother and had resigned to the circumstances. The patient himself did not know about the condition of his illness. This grandmother was admitted to the disease ward in class III for women, the Flamboyant ward.

The third patient is Mr. Herman, a 56-year-old man who just entered hospital two days ago due to a stroke. His life spirit decreased due to the conditions he experienced. The right side of his body and face were paralyzed.

His family had tried to comfort him to restore his spirit, but the patient was still slumped. The patient is currently in the Class II neural ward, Soka ward.

Well, that was the introduction. As an introductory stage, are three patients enough? Or want to add?" Miss Reny asked with a knotty smile.

"Enough, Mom. So, "James replied with a wry smile. The problem is there are some medical terms that James does not understand, such as gangrene, division of stages in cancer, and chemotherapy. How can he accompany patients if he does not understand very well the conditions they are experiencing, right?

Miss Cris smiled. "Yes already. Let's meet them! I will introduce Mr. James to the patient and his family, so that they are not surprised if suddenly Mr. James who came to provide assistance, "said Mrs Reny as she got up from her seat.

"Good, Mom!" James stood up and followed Miss Reny out of the room.

With excitement and a little thumping, James is ready for his first assignment in the hospital. There are many new things that he has to learn. But he was challenged enough to survive working in this new environment.
