Restore Your Smile

Restore Your Smile
New Work, New Neighborhood

The game of life often throws around human plans. James, who had already resigned to following Celine's plan, instead got a call for an interview in the final days of the deadline he set himself.

James did not miss this opportunity. The priority is to get a job, WHEREVER IT IS!

At the time of the interview, James went to the hospital. The hospital that called him was a Regional General Hospital (RSUD) which had a drug rehabilitation unit that was only established for less than a year.

At an early stage, James was interviewed by the Hospital HRD. Honestly, James had gotten a strange view when he was asked why he switched professions from a BK teacher to a health worker.

James tried to answer calmly and tried to look convincing. He said that according to him being a counselor anywhere is the same, because both must be based on the spirit of humanity that wants to help others. What is different is the type of person who is problematic and the complexity of the problem itself. And this is what he wanted to learn. He wants to challenge himself to face a new world.

I don't know if the answer is acceptable or satisfactory to the Interviewer or not. Clearly, after that he was directed to take some physical examination and then he could go home. He was promised to get the news no later than a week later.

Not for a week, the awaited news arrived. James was asked to start work next Monday at 07:30. James is happy. The news was immediately conveyed to both his parents and his lover who took part in his happiness.

Monday has arrived. James left for RSUD earlier than the promised time. As soon as he arrived, he headed for the HRD section of the Hospital back. The HRD then took him to meet the Coordinator of Medical Services and Nursing, a female doctor aged about 35 years. The name of the doctor is dr. Yuri Lidyawati's.

Doctor Yuri was the one in charge of explaining the outline of James's duties as a counselor. James will work like normal business hours, from Monday to Friday, from 07:30 - 15:00.

Doctor Yuri then escorted James to his study. On the doorstep was written the word "General Counselor". The room was not very large, but was laid out comfortably and elegantly. In each corner there are two work desks with one seat each for the Counselor and two seats in front of him. In the middle of the room there is a set of minimalist sofa, which makes the room as if it has a small living room.

On top of one of the work desks there are files and stationery that indicates that the table is already inhabited. The other table looks more empty. There was only a calendar and an office stationery with two pens in it. Chances are, that desk is what will become his desk.

Doctor Yuri invited James to sit on the sofa for a moment. As an opening, dr. Yuri explained why James was accepted to work at the RSUD.

"Truly, we are looking for an addiction counselor for our drug rehabilitation unit (noted: an addiction counselor is a counselor who provides rehabilitation services to people who are addicted to narcotics, psychotropic substances, and other addictive substances. Also called drug counsellor or drug counselor).

Previously, we only had two addiction counselors, but the other one quit because he was going to move to live in another city. Two months ago he submitted his resignation and we have been looking for a replacement since. But we can't hold it back anymore even though we haven't got a replacement yet.

That is why for a while we asked a general practitioner to help as a counselor in the rehabilitation unit, at least he has knowledge about NAPZA (Narcotics, Psychotropic and Addictive Substances) and also about rehabilitation. And you, maybe in the future we hope to lead to the profession.

But we'll talk about that later. For the next 3 months, you will undergo an orientation period first, considering you have never had experience working at RS or have health-related training certificates.

"For more details on the issue of division of tasks, you can ask Miss Crisp later. Right now, he's probably on a patient visit in the wards." After saying this, dr. Yuri stood up.

"Now I will take you to orient the rooms that will be related to your work, "he said again as if to invite James to follow him.

James was then invited to enter the wards that had the names of various flowers. There he was also introduced to the nurse who was the coordinator of the room in the ward.

There are many wards in the RSUD. The wards are divided according to the class of the patient and the type of disease.

Based on the class, there are VIP class wards, classes I, II, and III. Based on the disease and its patients, there are wards for adult patients, pediatric patients, obstetric patients, and there are also for patients with psychiatric problems. Because quite a lot, James could not immediately remember the words of dr. Yuri when explaining which ward for what patient or what class.

"In general, for consultation regarding the disease or treatment, it will usually be explained directly by the Patient Responsible Physician (DPJP). General counselors will be asked to assist if there are special cases, such as patients who are depressed because of their disease, or patients who are anxious because they need surgery.

Assistance can also be reserved for the families of patients who have family members with difficult to recover, psychiatric disorders, or who are undergoing a rehabilitation period that requires patience.

What is clear, the request for assistance will be delivered directly by the DPJP concerned, or will be written in the medical record. The room nurse on duty will help remind you if there is a request for assistance." Doctor Yuri continued his explanation.

Then James was also invited to meet the heads of the installation that will be the head of the team where James will take part in it. Among them are the head of an adult psychiatric installation, the head of a child and adolescent psychiatric installation, the head of a NAPZA installation, and the head of a rehabilitation installation.

They can all be said to be James's bosses, including Crisp Ma'am. James was no longer able to memorize the names and faces of the installation heads earlier. He could only put on a stupid smile when introduced to such important people.

Slow down .. he entertained himself. Later he will ask Miss Reny only, because after all is the only person who has a role that is almost exactly the same as him in this RSUD.

After that, dr. Yuri takes her back to the general counselors room and leaves her alone there. When dr. Yuri left, James just put his head down on his desk. Thankfully, Miss Crisson had not returned.

James' head hurts. Brain's tired. It's only the first day of orientation and it's still not over. He still had to wait for the arrival of Miss Reny and listen to the explanation of the task from her.

God .... It turns out it's not as easy as I thought. The tasks are much different and more complex than the BK teachers in schools. Strengthen my soul .. cried James in heart.
