Nayla tries to find work by wondering at the owner of the rice fields and also the garden in the village.
He met one person at a time to wonder about work. Unfortunately they only say if there is only available work in the fields and gardens only.
Nayla thought for a moment about their finances and their lives. She couldn't just hang their lives on her husband.
Nayla is just in case her husband will punish her again by not financing her when he learns they are lying about their lives in a new place and Calista's new school.
"Huuufffttt. It was very difficult to find a job with my previous skills. Hopefully I can do it" Nayla murmured with a sigh that sounded very heavy.
With a heavy heart he met one of the garden owners who was in the garden to see the plantation.
"Sorry sir, are you still looking for workers?" nayla asked with a sigh and was very careful.
The old owner saw Nayla from top to bottom. Then he said,
"It's like you're not a citizen here."
"Sorry sir, I just came to this area. I am not a native here. How do you know?" asked the astonished-faced Nayla at this moment.
The gardener chuckled at the question coming out of Nayla's mouth. After that he pointed at Nayla from top to bottom and said,
"It's very obvious from your appearance."
Nayla smiled awkwardly at the words of the owner of the garden. He scratched the nape of his neck while saying,
"Sorry sir, is there a job for me?"
The garden owner chuckled again. Then he said,
"Are you capable of that? Look them. It seems you won't be able to be like them. All the people who work on this farm are people around here. No one is from the city."
"Sorry Sir. If you are happy, I can try it today. If my job is disappointing, you can't accept me back to work tomorrow" Nayla said expectantly.
The owner of the garden seemed to think. A few moments later he said,
"alright. You can try it now. Later, if your work is done, meet me to take your wages. If your job is good, I'll pay you a daily wage. Do you agree?"
Nayla's smile suddenly expanded. He felt a little relieved at this moment. He also said,
"Thank you Sir. I'll try as much as I can."
"But you have to know if the wages of working here are not like in the city. Maybe you will be disappointed after receiving your salary later. You can no longer work tomorrow if you object to the wages" said the owner of the garden.
Nayla immediately shook her head and said,
"No Sir. I will try as much as possible to do it. I really need this job."
The owner of the garden felt sorry for Nayla. He immediately allowed Nayla to work together with the other workers.
The owner of the garden introduced Nayla to the other workers. He also asked the other workers to help Nayla tell him about her work and set an example for her.
After that, the owner of the garden left his workers and monitored Nayla remotely. He wanted to see Nayla's sincerity in work.
Nayla tied up her beautiful long hair. Sometimes he wiped away the sweat that soaked his forehead and temples.
The vast tea plantation was very soothing to the eye, unfortunately now not as beautiful as imagined by Nayla.
It turns out that working there is more tiring than as a guide for foreign tourists who can live a full day or days. Even his clothes were not as neat this morning.
Nayla looked very tired doing the job until the afternoon. When the working hours were over, he and other workers met the owner of the garden.
"This is your reward today" said the gardener, giving an envelope containing Nayla's wages for the day.
Nayla received the envelope and said, Nayla,
"Hows it? Do you still feel capable of doing it?" ask the garden owner seriously.
Nayla nodded her head. He needed the job, so he had no other option not to do it.
The owner of the garden smiled faintly. After that he allowed Nayla to leave the place.
Along the way, Nayla thought of other ways to earn money. He tried his luck by offering some people to become English teachers for their children.
Unfortunately, no one was interested in hiring him to be a private tutor for their children.
Nayla realized that the lives of people in the area were not comparable to the lives of city people who needed private teachers for their children.
"Ah, maybe tomorrow I can offer the owner of the garden earlier. Who knows maybe his son or grandson needs a private teacher of English" said Nayla enthusiastically.
After that he rushed through the football field to look for Calista who was most likely there.
And that's exactly what Nayla's guess is. Calista was playing football on the field along with some of his male friends.
This morning Calista brought a change of clothes. He told his mother he would wear the shirt to play football after school with his friends.
"Read! Is it not finished playing yet? It's going to be afternoon!" nayla shouted from the edge of the field.
Calista turned to the source of the voice. He said goodbye to his friends. After that she ran towards her mother and with her breath she said,
"Mama looks so shabby. What's going on?"
Nayla smiled and shook her head as she said,
"Mama's fine. We go home now and eat together."
They went home walking hand in hand and hand.
Arriving at home, the two of them took turns to clean his body. After that they ate along with a simple food menu.
"Does Caca mind if Mama works?" ask Nayla to start their conversation after they finish eating.
Calista scrunched his forehead. Then he said,
"Is there a job here like Mama's in town?"
"No Ca. Mama worked on the tea plantation starting today. Does Caca mind? Mama went to work early in the morning and came home late afternoon like today" said Nayla who tried to explain to Calista.
Calista approached her mother and held her hands together, saying,
"Is Mama out of money?"
Nayla also nodded. He confirmed Calista's question to him and said,
"Mama's money is running low. Mama just in case we don't run out of money."
"Why don't you ask Papa?" ask Calista who felt she did not understand Nayla's decision.
Nayla breathed. He stared for a moment at Calista who he thought was still not old enough to know the reason.
"Ma, Caca's grown up. Caca could already accept whatever it was. Try to tell Caca the truth, Mama," pinta Calista stared intensely at her mama's bead eyes.
Nayla catches seriousness on Calista's bead. In his heart he said,
Well, maybe it's time Caca found out what happened. But I'm not going to say about the salary his grandmother asked for and about his Papa. I'm enough to know.
"Mama is only afraid that if your father finds out about our lies and he will come back to punish us by not giving us money" Nayla said, telling her honestly.
