Not Intentionally Cheating
Chapter 20 About the Devan family

After a while, Devan and Nayla have arrived at the dormitory once occupied by Keyla and Calista. The two of them meet with the hostel mother to retrieve Keyla's belongings that were used by the police as evidence when Keyla was hit.

“Police tells if Keyla spoke by phone before she crashed. And the call was recorded in the phone,” said Bu Anita, the hostel's mother to Devan.

Devan's hand slowly picked up the box containing Keyla's belongings. The hand trembled and was unable to touch the items in the box.

Devan's heart was again shrouded in grief. He recalls his days with Keyla. He never thought that his daughter would no longer exist in this world.

“Thank you Mom, I will take home all this stuff,” Devan said in a trembling voice and teary eyes.

Anisa's mother nodded with her sad face. He could feel how sad Devan was to lose his dearly beloved daughter.

Not only Miss Anisa, Nayla also felt what Devan was feeling. Keyla's smile was still clearly visible in Nayla's eyes. They never met, but the impression they gave when greeting each other through video calls was very impressive even if only once.

In the car, Devan was silent for a moment before he started his car engine. He thought about what to do with the stuff.

Devan turned to look at Nayla who was sitting in her car. He hesitates to say what is on his mind. But he had no other choice. With doubt he said,

“Nayla, I'll stop by for a while to a quiet place near here. Do you not mind? I just want to see this stuff over there. I can't see it at home. Even I hesitate to bring him home.”

Nayla wanted to ask him why, unfortunately he could not do it. He was aware of his position which had no right to ask anything about his family.

Nayla nodded her head. He agreed to Devan's wish without saying anything. He knows that Devan must have remembered Calista's return from school.

Devan's car leads to a small street around which many trees are overgrown along the road they pass.

Turns out Devan's car stopped in front of a lake that can be seen clearly from inside their current mobi.

“I'll be in the lake for a while,” Devan said as he removed his seatbelt.

After he gets out of his car, Devan picks up a box containing Keyla's belongings from the trunk of his car.

Nayla just saw from inside the car what Devan was doing. In his heart he said,

What exactly is Devan going to do? Is he going to throw all that stuff away?

Nayla's curiosity gets her out of the car. From a distance not so far away and not too close from where Devan was sitting at the moment, Nayla looked at him and tried to listen to what Devan was currently doing.

Devan sighed heavily looking at the box he had in his hand. Put the box on the grass by the lake and sit there. For a moment his eyes looked at the extremely calming lake.

Look at one by one the items in the box. At first glance he remembered the words of Bu Anita who said if the police told him that there was a last call recorded on Keyla's phone.

At that time his hand also took Keyla's phone. It was called that cell phone. After a few seconds the phone was ready for use, Devan checked the last recorded footage of the day.

His eyes suddenly opened to hear the entire recording. His heart churned with restraining his anger at hearing what had really happened.

His heart was very sick to hear everything in the recording. Even he shouted out loudly to release all the pain and tightness that was within his chest. His tears escaped just like that accompanying Devan's cry that sounded very heartbreaking.

Devan picked up Keyla's clothes, which were still wearing a lot of red liquid at the time of the accident. She roared crying for her daughter by saying her name and kissing the clothes she had in her hands.

Without a second thought, Nayla ran over to Devan. The roar from Devan's cry deeply moved Nayla.

Nayla holds Devan's shoulder and rubs it slowly as Devan turns to her. Through the look in his eyes, Nayla told him of her sadness.

Devan quickly grabbed Nayla's body and hugged her. He was too fragile right now that he needed a place to lean on to let go of his grief.

Unknowingly, Nayla's tears wet her cheeks. He did not ask Devan anything, all he could do at this moment was calm him down and give him strength so as not to be fragile.

For a while Nayla let Devan hold her. They encourage and calm each other and give advice.

Unknowingly they do all that without the relationship status of friends or friends. Their relationship just flowed with time that brought them together.

“Sorry,” Devan said as he unraveled his embrace.

“It's okay. Just make sure of your sadness if it can make you better,” said Nayla while giving a smile on her sad face.

Devan pulls Nayla by the hand and invites her to sit by the lake. He gives Keyla's phone and plays the recording for Nayla to hear.

Nayla's lips trembled and her teary eyes let out tears. He was so scared to hear the recording.

He could not imagine Keyla's feelings at that moment. All she knew, Keyla must have felt a deep sadness beyond what she and Devan felt.

Slowly Devan tells about his encounter with Keyla which makes him want to always play with her. After several months of Devan's closeness with Keyla, Devan decides to marry Liana.

From a long time ago he knew that Liana was a hard worker and tough. It was also what made Devan amazed at his figure who became a tough single parent.

However she does not know Liana's true relationship and attitude towards Keyla. Now he knows a little, but he has to find out more to be sure.

Devan's hand gently wiped Nayla's tears. He smiled bitterly and said,

“Thank you for calming me down and for listening to my story. I need it most.”

Nayla smiled in her tear-jerking face. Her heart that had become a mother could feel the deep sadness of Keyla.

Devan's hand held Nayla's hand and she thanked him again with a tearful smile.

After that they rushed home, considering that this time was approaching Calista's return from school.
