Chapter 8 - Escape

As the day grew night, the entire building became pitch-black. Shen Yuan's vision was limited. His eyes began to get used to the dark. So despite being in the dark he was still able to recognize objects that were around him. As long as he did not cause any sounds that attracted the zombies, they would not be caught.

Grasping Feifei's hand tightly, Shen Yuan walked slowly while continuing to be wary of the area around him. Feifei followed closely behind him, afraid of making mistakes and ending up attracting the attention of zombies.

Shen Yuan managed to bring Feifei all the way to the entrance of the building. But somehow since when there are some zombies that block them to get out of the building.

Shen Yuan made Feifei crouch down and hide between the lockers.

Feifei gasped for breath, he started to get scared to see the zombie. After all, zombies are not primary school zombies but adults. Cold sweat appeared on his forehead.

Shen Yuan's expression was not so good either. If it was a child zombie he could still handle it even if it was more than five.

Shen Yuan started to count. There were seven zombies-six of them adults and one primary school student.

It's too late to switch routes, it's possible that other areas are even worse than this one.

Amidst the darkness, one of the zombies seemed to smell a human-he turned towards where Shen Yuan and Feifei were hiding!

The zombie pounced, making Shen Yuan have to roll on the floor with Feifei in his arms to avoid its bite.

With that voice, the other zombies were also lured along. All the zombies headed straight towards Shen Yuan!

"Damn!"

Shen Yuan was cornered on the wall with Feifei behind him.

The zombies rushed towards them. Shen Yuan pulled on Feifei's shirt to avoid the zombies that were about to pounce on him. One of the zombies opened its mouth wide, revealing a blackish-colored blood within its mouth. The blood flowed up to his neck, dripping disgustingly.

Shen Yuan stuffed the axe eyes into his mouth, preventing him from biting.

"Run baby, run!"

Shen Yuan pulled out Feifei's shirt and forced him to run in front of her. While he was driving the zombies behind.

Feifei ran forward and occasionally curled up as his father fought with zombies. Di was very frightened, yet he was still slowly heading towards the exit.

Shen Yuan swung the axe, a sharp axe slashing from the mouth to the back of his head - blood splattered. He was as strong as he could to direct Feifei out of the building while still fighting with the zombies.

The zombies were trying to grab Shen Yuan with their gray hands, but Shen Yuan was going to cut him off right away.

After giving a kick to make the zombie move away, Shen Yuan and Feifei finally made it out of the school building. Shen Yuan directly carried Feifei and ran as hard as he could towards his car.

The zombies chasing them are getting more and more. Shen Yuan could clearly hear their roars behind him.

Shen Yuan quickly got into the car with Feifei then locked it. The zombies were still pounding on the car's glass heartlessly, leaving bloody fingerprints on the car's glass.

Shen Yuan moved into the driver's seat, turned on the car and immediately stepped on the accelerator. He crashed and crushed the body of the zombie under his wheel. The sound of broken bones crackling in his ears, the movement of the car became bumpy as it crushed the zombie body.

Before more zombies came, Shen Yuan had already left them with a trail of dust.

Shen Yuan glanced at his daughter many times. But he remained silent, not trying to comfort her. He knew his daughter had to calm down to face this reality. But as a father he remained worried about Feifei's mental state. Even worse, this can cause psychological trauma for children his age.

While speeding on the highway, Shen Yuan saw a police car that hit a tree on the side of the road. After thinking about it for a while, Shen Yuan decided to stop.

Dazedly Feifei asked, "What's the father?"

"Stay in the car. I'll be right back."

Shen Yuan got down from the car, after which, Feifei saw his father approaching a police car.

Shen Yuan checked the situation inside the car, other than a dead police driver, there was no one else.

Shen Yuan tried to look for the weapon in the car, finally he found a gun. There are only six bullets in it. He felt somewhat disappointed, but still pocketed it.

After picking up the gun, Shen Yuan returned to his car. Feifei wanted to ask what his father was looking for, yet he undoed his intentions. They also continued their journey.

Due to the traffic jam, it took an hour to reach their apartment. Arriving at Shen Yuan's house immediately took a quick shower. Because he couldn't stand his blood-stained clothes sticking to his skin.

He asked Feifei to bathe until it was clean as well. Because the spread of this virus is still not necessarily just from a bite. He didn't want to take any chances, so he had better clean up the remains of the dirt that the zombies left behind in his body.

After the bath Shen Yuan started packing the items he thought were useful that were inside the house.

He packs canned food, instant noodles, powdered milk, laundry soap, wet wipes, and so on. Then he turned to the bedroom, packing a few pieces of Feifei clothes and his clothes.

Shen Yuan opened the closet, inside was a military knife. He took it and opened the scabbard. A sharp blade of blade immediately reflected before his eyes. It looks so sharp that it shimmers.  Shen Yuan also put it in the bag.

After he saw that Feifei had already finished bathing and changed his clothes, Shen Yuan approached him. Then he knelt in front of her.

Shen Yuan said, "We're going to go to your grandparents' house. Now you pack the things you want to bring. Okay?"

Feifei nodded. Then he went to the room. Shen Yuan leaned against the door, watching her take her brown bear-shaped bag. Then he looked to the right and left, trying to see what items he should be carrying.

Then Feifei put a lot of candy and chocolate into it. It seemed like he remembered something and ran into the living room. Shen Yuan was curious as to what item she wanted to pack that was in the living room so she followed Feifei out.

He saw Feifei take a photo of his mother, and a photo of himself with Feifei. When Shen Yuan saw her nose ache, she held back from crying until the tip of her eyes turned red.

Looks like her little princess already knew that they might not return to this house again. However Feifei had been living in this house since birth. And for Shen Yuan, the meaning of this house was even greater.

He saved up with his wife to buy this apartment, setting aside little by little from their monthly salary. His wife conceived Feifei for nine months before leaving him. He has yet to feel how to live with a whole family, with his wife and son. Since the beginning of this place never accommodated three people. In this place he felt the sweetness of the married life and the endless sadness.

While Feifei was still carefully packing the photo into his bag, the light suddenly went out. Due to the sudden change in light, Feifei was startled for a moment.

"Calm down. I'll check it out first."

Shen Yuan walked towards the window and looked out. All the buildings opposite him were pitch dark. Maybe one city has a power outage. Then Shen Yuan turned on the flashlight on his phone to make it easier for them to pack.

There were not many items they carried, all of them only needed one large bag. The rest of their needs they will buy on the road later. Now they're focused on getting out of this town.
