Living Dead's

Living Dead's
Chapter 17 - Confrontation

Shen Yuan did not move, still standing in a cautious manner with Feifei in his hands. He stood upright, his entire body emitting a cold and sharp aura, like a blade.

The medics knew immediately that something was wrong.

"Master? Can you come with me?"

Shen Yuan pursed her lips, "No."

Sure enough, seeing his unnatural demeanor, the medic became increasingly suspicious.

He said, "It has become a rule for newcomers to undergo a physical examination. All of that is to ensure the safety of many civilians in these shelters. Please cooperate with us on this matter."

Shen Yuan was still trying to calmly answer him, "Your captain has already guaranteed our existence. What else do you want?"

The medic was still unwilling to let Shen Yuan off just like that. "Recently, many infected people have been mingling among the refugees, resulting in heavy casualties. It doesn't matter if Captain Xi has already guaranteed you, but I still want you to undergo a physical examination."

"Then ask your captain first before you dare to take me."

Compared to Shen Yuan, the medics were much shorter. However having seen many infected people before, he had become unafraid of facing Shen Yuan. Rather than seeing everyone inside this shelter infected, he would rather face Shen Yuan.

But after listening to Shen Yuan's words, he became even more impatient. He immediately grabbed Shen Yuan's arm to take her to the examination room.

Who would have guessed that the energy released by the medical personnel was too large to cause the blanket used by Feifei to open half, revealing a bite scar on his calf. Because Feifei's skin was so white, the wound became very noticeable.

The medics were shocked and frightened. Instantly his blood turned cold after recalling that many of the people who were bitten had mutated into zombies.

Angrily he pointed at Shen Yuan right on his face. "You! How dare you bring an infected person in here!"

The shout attracted the attention of many people, all of them turning to Shen Yuan's side simultaneously. The expressions of the people instantly changed, and the civilians who were nearby quickly retreated away from Shen Yuan and Feifei. The sound of whispers began to spread among the crowd.

"What's infected?!"

"Will he turn into a zombie?"

"Why get in here!"

I don't know who was speaking, but a loud voice echoed within the basement. "Excuse him! Get him out of here! What if he starts biting people?!"

The murmurs became more and more violent. Everyone agreed that Shen Yuan should be thrown out of this shelter.

At some point, Wen Fan had already moved behind Shen Yuan. Angrily he shouted, "He's not infected! If he's infected, he's mutated into a zombie and attacked us!"

The crowd whispered to each other, not listening to Wen Fan's voice.

With the support of many people, the medics became more courageous and confident. He came forward and was about to grab the Feifei that was on Shen Yuan's arm. To him, this little boy was no different from the zombies that were out there, he wanted to kill him.

However before his fingertips touched him, his hands had already been twisted behind his back by Shen Yuan.

The medic felt someone hit him on the back of his knee, until he fell to his knees. Then, he felt the back of his head being touched by the muzzle of the weapon. He stopped moving when he heard the 'click' sound of a bullet being inserted. Before he could speak, he heard a voice so cold that his spine was crazed.

"Just try if you dare to touch it," Shen Yuan further pushed the muzzle of the gun to the back of his head. "I'll blow your head off."

Everyone fell silent, before muttering again rang out.

"He's gone crazy..."

"Surely he's infected too!"

As the commotion on Shen Yuan's side became enormous, Xi Zihe stopped answering people's questions and walked up to Shen Yuan. He was surprised to see Shen Yuan holding his daughter with one arm while his other hand pointed a gun at one of the medical members.

Xi Zihe glanced at the medics who were already pale and sweating coldly, like they were about to faint, Xi Zihe even tried to persuade Shen Yuan.

"Please calm down, Mr. Shen. I'll explain it to them."

Without looking at Xi Zihe, Shen Yuan replied, "Sorry, Captain Xi. But no one can touch my daughter."

The atmosphere became increasingly heavy, but Xi Zihe could not let the medic kneel down like a death row inmate. He tried to look towards Wen Fan, but Wen Fan only shook his head, not knowing what to do.

"alright. I know he's wrong. But anyway let's measure your little princess's body temperature first. I'm sure you don't have a thermometer with you, do you?"

Shen Yuan was very stubborn, but if it concerned his daughter, he could compromise. Xi Zihe was right, at least he had to check Feifei's body temperature.

Xi Zihe saw Shen Yuan finally lower her gun slowly, he heaved a sigh of relief.

Shen Yuan lowered the thermometer, before saying in a hoarse voice, "37.9°C."

Shen Yuan did not allow anyone to touch Feifei, so he personally measured his body temperature.

Xi Zihe wanted to say something, but he was preceded by the medics earlier. "This little boy has a fever, Captain Xi. Fever is an early symptom of infection. He should be in quarantine!"

The medic was still furious over Shen Yuan's behavior earlier. He was humiliated in front of many people like cattle waiting to be slaughtered. So he deliberately raised the volume of his voice so that many people would hear him.

Sure enough, the other civilians who had been haunted by fear for a few days were becoming more and more terrified and infatuated. They don't care if it's a child, they put their safety first.

"Get him right now!"

"Are the soldiers now the ones taking sides?!"

"Yes, get rid of him!"

Xi Zihe ignored the cries of the other civilians. He crouched down in front of Feifei who was unconscious with his blanket, and observed it.

Really, cute little girl.

Maybe if her eyes were open, she was even more beautiful, he thought.

Xi Zihe observed him for a moment, before suddenly standing up. "Take him to the back shed, and keep an eye on him."

The medics went straight ahead and said disapprovingly, "Captain Xi..."

But Xi Zihe resolutely interrupted, "This is my people, the people I brought. If there's a problem, I'll take responsibility."

The back shed was a small space that was blocked by plywood. That's about five square meters. Before the outbreak, this place was used to store merchandise, so it smelled a little damp and musty.

Shen Yuan widened the blanket instead of mats. Then he sat on it, and laid Feifei on his lap. It was dark there, relying only on the flashlight he bought as lighting. With a small light, he again gave Feifei the medicine. Shen Yuan opened his mouth and pushed ibuprofen down his throat.

Seeing the medicine being swallowed, Shen Yuan breathed a sigh of relief.

He felt tired, seeing Feifei who was still unconscious made him even more desperate. But he had faith that Feifei would wake up.
