Living Dead's

Living Dead's
Chapter 46 - Conflict (2)

Within the narrowness of the goods warehouse, the air became increasingly heavy.

Xi Zihe sat on top of the weapon chest, behind him Shen Yuan leaned leisurely on the goods shelf. Xi Zihe looked at them right in the eyes one by one. Some avoided her sight, and some looked back at her.

After the war stared, Xi Zihe finally opened his mouth. "We're here now. Are you still sure not to follow me?"

The person at the very end opened his mouth the first time. "I'm sorry for being rude, Captain Xi. But I think it's best for us now to stay in the factory, and we shouldn't act rashly. You have to send our location to the military headquarters on the island, and have them send helicopters to evacuate us. If you say that there are dozens of civilians who survived, then they will come..."

"No headquarters." Xi Zihe replied calmly.

The man furrowed his brows, "What do you mean?"

"I'll be honest with you. We can't send location signals, and we can't connect to headquarters at all."

"What did you say?! Then what did you bring us here for?! Do you want to make us all die in this place?!" The man in his 30s exploded in anger.

"Then from that! I invite you to go to the main military base on the island!" Xi Zihe replied no less loudly.

That person named Yan Zheng was silent for a moment. When he spoke again, there was a clear change in his tone, with a slight demeaning attitude. "Then we have to go to city D."

Yan Zheng continued, "My family owns a company that operates to cultivate food. So that we can survive a few years from the supplies that are there. In addition, the cold in the north can inhibit the movement of zombies. If viewed from any angle, this is definitely a safer option than having to go south to find a helicopter."

Xi Zihe thought, this bastard Yan Zheng must have thought about it carefully before he started inciting others to follow him.

Xi Zihe was still calmly listening to him spout out various nonsense that was like the genius's idea.

Seeing Xi Zihe was just silent, Yan Zheng immediately began to change the topic to incite Xi Zihe.

"I know Captain Xi and the rest of the squad are very loyal to the country. However, in this apocalypse you still have to think about yourself. If Captain Xi is willing to bring your subordinates and join us, then we will treat you with specialness, you guys will not be short of food like now. When I get to D city, I'll make sure that you guys can live more comfortably than ever before. What do you think of this?"

The people beside Yan Zheng all put on an alluring smile, like a demon that ensnared the hearts of humans. The temptation sounded so sweet to the ears. But what was a pity, what they were trying to persuade was Xi Zihe.

"How should I say this," Xi Zihe laughed out loud, laughing at their stupidity and arrogance. "As a special forces soldier, we have been trained by the state for many years. This is a time when the country needs our manpower..."

Yan Zheng started to get impatient, "I understand that. But you should also consider your subordinates as well. They are young, they have a wonderful life waiting for them. And what can the state give? A medal? The award? Is it more valuable than human life? Even the military base of C city had already perished! Such governments cannot protect themselves, how can they protect civilians like us?!"

Xi Zihe scanned his face, he wanted to test the person in front of him. Is it worth keeping or not. He cleared his throat and pretended to be interested and asked.

"If we go north, what happens to the people who are here?"

The moment Shen Yuan heard this question, she sneered in her heart. Xi Zihe, this black-hearted cunning fellow is very reliable to deal with people like them.

Yan Zheng observed Xi Zihe's expression, feeling that Xi Zihe wasn't being joking he immediately revealed a dissatisfied expression.

"We don't have much stock." Yan Zheng said in a low voice.

Xi Zihe secretly understood what he meant.

"If we take everyone, I'm afraid supplies will run out halfway. In this cold weather, it is impossible to find additional supplies, and everyone will die."

Yan Zheng pretended to look guilty for a moment before proceeding lightly. "I think the weak should stay in this factory. Also, it is better to allow those who are disobedient to survive on their own in order to prevent the emergence of internal problems..."

His intentions were very clear, he only wanted strong people and people who were willing to obey his orders.

Xi Zihe did not say a word, and the pleasure within him deepened. He laughs at this guy. How could anyone be so shameless.  This guy is not worth defending.

Xi Zihe clapped loudly, and exclaimed. "Master Yan Zheng does indeed have a distant look ahead."

Yan Zheng became big-headed, yet he still smiled politely.

"But" Xi Zihe said firmly. "We still have to go to the central military base."

Yan Zheng's victorious expression fell instantly. "...why?"

Xi Zihe slightly raised his chin, looking at Yan Zheng with a condescending expression. "In this journey, we will not give up on anyone. Whether it's parents, women, and children, as long as we see it, we'll save it. If we run out of food, we will grow our own. If there are no seeds, then we will look for them. As long as we're here, nothing will be left."

Yan Zheng observed Xi Zihe who was still opposing him. Although Xi Zihe was sitting casually on top of the goods chest, but with his stern face, his tanned skin, and muscles that could not be hidden behind his uniform, he said, also the assault rifle hanging on his right shoulder, all of them exuded a domineering masculine aura.

Yan Zheng subconsciously turned his gaze away from feeling oppressed, yet he unintentionally came face to eye with Shen Yuan who was behind Xi Zihe. Instantly a chill crept through Yan Zheng's spine.

Shen Yuan leaned leisurely on the goods shelf with her hands crossed. Her white shirt was in stark contrast to her jet black hair. His long legs were perfect for wearing military boots and pants, coupled with a military knife strapped to his right thigh, practically giving the illusion of a killer to others. But the most terrifying thing was his eyes. His eyes that were as black as ink looked extremely cold, as if they could pierce through one's heart, it made him shiver.

Xi Zihe who saw him froze in fear after looking towards Shen Yuan, felt extremely happy in his heart. If only there had been no one else here, he might have laughed to the point of rolling on the ground.

Now feel what every time I feel when Dad looks at me sharply!

On the other hand, Yan Zheng felt oppressed to the point where he was seen losing his breath. When he regained his consciousness again, it went from fear to anger.

He turned his gaze towards Xi Zihe back, "You made a very good speech, Captain Xi. But I can't believe you don't want-"

"You can bring the people you want to bring." Xi Zihe cut it. "I won't stop anyone from going with you. But we won't give you any weapons. Go now." Xi Zihe waved his hand, using a movement of expelling the chickens towards them.

The five of them came out of the warehouse with expressions that showed dissatisfaction.

Xi Zihe let out a heavy sigh after they left.

"I want strawberry jam in the kitchen." Shen Yuan immediately asked for his payment.

"Gosh dad... Can't you work for free?"

Shen Yuan shrugged her shoulders, "I have a daughter to live with."

Xi Zihe did not believe that Shen Yuan could be so shameless. But eventually he agreed.

After leaving the warehouse, Xi Zihe immediately called Wei Qian over. "Take this bus key. Moreover, keep an eye on the movements of Yan Zheng and his group, don't let them take our supplies and ammunition."

Wei Qian immediately took the bus key. "I understand, Captain Xi."

Soon after, Wei Qian entered the dormitory building again.

In the evening, Xi Zihe, Wen Fan, and Yang Ruisi were planning their travel routes to City H in the warehouse.

Yang Ruisi, carrying her favorite military tablet, opened a map showing the route of the road to the city of H. "I think we better take the road along the edge of this forest. The zombies that were there must have been fewer, even though the path had become further and further."

Xi Zihe and Wen Fan were listening carefully and thinking about the decision when the warehouse door was suddenly opened by someone.

Li Yan entered with a breath, her face looking extremely anxious and panicked.

"Captain Xi!  A large group of zombies came 2 km from the north!"

"What?!"

Just as Xi Zihe was about to give his orders, Yao Yue barged in with a panicked expression as well.

What else now?!

"Captain! The group of Yan Zheng carrying the bus then crashed into the wire fence, and fled!"

"WHAT DID YOU SAY?!"

Xi Zihe had never felt this session in his entire life.

Anyone, please hit my head! Let me pass out!
